Re: We Need Some Movie News
The Eunuch is reporting that the movie will get a 3D conversion. Could be wrong since I don't really give a shit about 3D but I thought we were told it wasn't happening. But now it is? A 3D conversion costs a fucking fortune so you could read this as WB showing a lot of faith in MOS.Eunuch page wrote:The IMAX release of Man of Steel will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Mind you, this is the same movie studio that cockteased a pic we've already seen from their Comic Con trailer as it's something totally new to us so whatever.

It'll probably a blow-up, like they did with INCEPTION and SKYFALL. I doubt with Nolan's name attached it will get a 3D conversion.
As for the poster, I'm really not too crazy about it. What's the point other than "it's dark n gritty!"?
This blog sums it up for me: http://dimecomicreviews.blogspot.ca/2012/12/my-man-of-steel.html

Superman is big. Superman is bright. He's primary colours, he's outrageous situations, he's heroism in the face of unyielding danger. He stands for hope and he stands for good, and his adventures are larger than life. And he can do all of these things and still be a badass. Because my Man of Steel is nothing if not a badass.

Yep! That's what the countdown revealed. I just clicked on it & it's the same image. I wonder though why they went with that image? I mean, it's a controversial image to the average Joe who doesn't know any better. Unless that is the intent? Stoke some controversy. Get people talking about the film. Makes sense but personally I wouldn't have given duh brothers that much credit. Now let's just see what they do with the official trailer and the next 6 months.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
Is any of this news? Dunno.
Tom Holkenborg tweeted the above, re: setting up to record the MOS score... which one would hope would explain the relatively empty rehearsal space. The scores from Nolan Batman movies had a lot of weaknesses, not least of which being that annoying synthy quality that synth scores usually suffer from.
Goyer wrote:
"I'm really proud of it. I never thought I'd be doing a Superman film. The only possible way to top Batman is to tackle Superman, the daddy of all the superheroes."
I'm choosing to not be upset over "supernatural" rather "superhuman".
Expanded view of the same pic that was released a while back along with the Eunuch page translation of a the WB France MOS summary.
A small boy discovers that he possesses supernatural strength and that he was not born on Earth. Later, he heads out on a journey in order to understand where he comes from and why he was sent to our planet. But he will have to become a hero if he wants to save the world from total destruction and embody the hope for all humanity...

Nope. He went by the name of REstart at the SSS Blog. He was CERTAIN a sequel was happening, because he heard something from someone at a wax museum in NY. And of course, it made more than 'Begins'.
Seriously, go look up some of the older articles there, and laugh at his spectacular stupidity.

What I know
by Ybnormal21 on Wed Jan 16 2013 21:05:19
I haven't had a chance to speak to my brother again so I will update this when that happens.
It's 2 hours and 24 mins, the cut he was shown
All his powers are on full display, although no freeze breath was mentioned
Krypton is destroyed
Zod kills jor-el he is not killed in the planets destruction
Lois knows his secret pretty early on in the movie
Kryptonite is not used, but it has been discovered and is being studied
Three main battles take place with the last being in metropolis and a significant amount of the city is destroyed between the gravity ray that zod uses on the city and the final battle with superman and the robot space force
Faora is killed, zod is taken to the prison planet.. Now left for superman to manage (I guess it's where he will take future super villains) that's what's implied in the movie
Lex is mentioned twice but never shown
No cameos from other heroes
Brainiac is mentioned but never shown
Krypton is described as more of a futuristic city.. No ice crystals at all, although he said most of kryptons effects were unfinished
There is a robot army that zod brings to earth. They were with him on the prison vessel and he reprograms them to serve him. They were originally designed to be guards on the prison planet (phantom zone) where zod was being taken.
I believe my brother said there were around 30 or so with one being bigger and stronger than the others.. I guess like the lead robot. When it's destroyed by superman zod takes the armor and designs a suit with it to aid him in battle with superman
That's all I can think of right off the top my head. I'll talk with him tomorrow and get some more info. Thanks for being positive and you can share what you like.PM #2
A few new details
by Ybnormal21 on Thu Jan 17 2013 12:44:27
I just spoke with my brother for a few mins over the phone. It seems snyder is busy cutting another trailer.. Idk when it will come out.. But that's what their working on at the moment.
He claims Shannon's zod is probably going to end up being one of the greatest movie villains on screen
He says that he's amazingly well written
Shannon gives the best performance of the movie, and he has just as much screen time as Cavill
Cavill looks really good in the suit.. He's a massive presence on screen and he looks like superman st8 out of a comic book
The colors look different on the suit than what we've seen.. I'm not sure if its cgi enhanced or just the lighting, but its a lot brighter and vibrant looking in the actual movie footage
Zod wears a similar suit but basically all black.. He does have a cape when he's first shown wearing his suit, but mostly he's shown without it
The quick shot of superman flying down the building towards zod to do battle is from the final fight scene and there's an epic collision that shatters windows and shakes buildings when that clash
He used the words epic every time he described an action sequence
The movie goes pretty deep into trying to understand how it would go if these aliens just showed up one day out of nowhere
There is definitely a Nolon feel to the movie
The military plays a large role in the movie.. There is experiments going on behind the scenes
Metallo is never mentioned or shown but there is a scene with an injured airforce pilot where they talk about using him for a secret project and the kryptonite is mentioned, although never referred to as such, it's called the meteoritePM #3
This what I got so far
by Ybnormal21 on Thu Jan 17 2013 16:12:53
I had a conversation with him just now and I tried to get all your questions answered.
The budget was initially 185 million but later increased to 215 after Snyder showed higher ups his quick story boards ideas of some of the action sequences he had planned for the film. It was later increased to 235 million to account for extra cgi cost and the added 3D.
The movie is more massive than you can imagine with huge sets built and amazingly shot action sequences. Snyder makes great use of every penny in the budget. The only thing he can compare this to is the action in the avengers, although he claims this is better shot and feels more real.
The original script only had 2 main battles the third was added by Snyder himself.
Jonathan kent dies, Clark is fully grown at the time, but not yet superman.
Zod does not kill Jonathan, although in the original script he did. Zod does kill several military personal and civilians in the movie. The loss of life gravely effects superman.
The robots, except for the main guard, are disposed of very easily.. If your expecting a huge scene with Sm fighting all these robots you will not get it. Their all taken care of at one time and very easily using his heat vision.
He is called superman in the movie but not at first, he's called the alien originally. Lois is the first to call him superman and the name catches on.
He learns of his origins in different ways. Jonathan is the first to tell him where he came from after his powers start to show up. After discovering his hidden ship Jonathan tells him more about his origins and gives him the key that was found with it. Clark also triggers a hologram message from Jor-el using the key that explains details about his home world.
Later in the film after Clark opens up the fortress he talks with another hologram of jor-el and discovers the suit and how it works and the source of his powers on earth.
Faora is killed by Zod.
The prison planet is an actual planet. It's smaller though and described as something like a moon to another planet, although very far away from krypton itself.
A scientific explanation is given for all supermans powers and it grounds this movie and makes it feel even more real, or as real as a movie about a super powered alien can be.
There's a huge twist at the end of the movie that I'm trying to get out of him now. Will update you later.
lastly the suit will be nano tech like the new 52 comics

The bit about the outfit should piss me off... and it probably would except I could picture it as a way to sneak in The Suit if there's a sequel.
The bit about Lois... eh. I'll give it a day in court.
In general it feels like there's a ring of truth to that report. It doesn't sound overly fanboy wanky but it also doesn't come off like it's designed to troll readers and goose up traffic and hits.

Here's hoping. One thing I am noticing though is that people, whether hardcore fans or just your casual observer, seem to be getting pumped for MOS. In spite of all the mystery & non-promotion surrounding this project, there seems to be a level of enthusiasm for MOS that there wasn't for Singerman. I know, I know, Turdman was definitely promoted. The problem though is that I think a lot of people simply didn't buy it & I think BJ Woodman & his lack of presence is partly to blame for that. Cavill OTOH, trunks or not, is blowing people away (but not like BJ huh?). And I suppose making a break from the Donner series also helps. People just want something new.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
Makes me wonder. The final product looked like shit but even the mostly unfinished stuff in the trailers and TV spots looked horrible too. Everything was monochromatic and just boring to look at. How are people supposed to get jazzed about seeing a drearfest like that? If you buy into the excuse that the marketing somehow hurt the movie (which I don't but hey...) then your only logical conclusion can be that the marketing just told the truth about what Singerman was going to be and the box office numbers were commensurate with that.non_amos wrote:Here's hoping. But whatever, yeah, people seem up for the game for MOS like they never were with Singerman. And again, it makes me wonder how things might've worked out if we'd gotten MOS back in 2006 rather than Stalkerman.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
If you're the type to freak out over something like this, bear in mind the entire thing is based on something some asshole saw on IMDB. Because, y'know, IMDB has NEVER had total bullshit stories posted on it before, no no.SHH wrote: The changes that have been applied to Superman for the upcoming film Man of Steel have been pretty divisive to say the least. His costume changes and the morbid attitude of Pa Kent have had some fans up in arms, and if you found yourself in that camp you may not like this latest rumor.
As DigitalSpy points out, one member of the cast listed on IMDb is an actress named Rebecca Buller, who is listed as playing the role of Jenny Olsen, which doesn't exactly confirm the gender swap of the character, but then when you see this screencap from the trailer of Buller running with Laurence Fishburne as Perry White (the Editor of the Daily Planet), it starts to make sense.
URL- http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/174557-is-jimmy-olsen-a-woman-in-man-of-steel
But assuming this is true... yeah, gender means something. Anybody who says otherwise is either a feminist or an emasculated dude. Oh? You think gender doesn't matter? Well, if you're a guy, why don't you lay naked in bed with your best guy friend? Hey, gender doesn't mean anything, right? Besides, this is just platonic, right?
But anyway, the question is whether the function Jimmy serves be done by a woman. If we're talking about "Superman's pal" and "Mr. Action", I'd say it's arguable at best. But if it's how Jimmy has been used in most Superman movies up to this point, yeah, a woman could do all or most of that stuff as readily as a guy (the lone arguable exception is a movie most of us refuse to associate with Superman to begin with). So what's the point? It comes down to how the character is used. Even I originally wanted to compare a "female Jimmy" to a "black Perry" but I realize now that's a false comparison. Perry is still a man. He's a black man now. That changes little... or, if it does change things, opens up new doors for the character in positive ways. But I'm not sure the same can be said for a "female Jimmy".
Worst case, it bombs and the character just doesn't work. Whatever, the sequel can bring Jimmy along for the ride. This doesn't have to be a hill to die on.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
Part of me wants to award those knuckle-draggers points for not yet mentioning Blandon. Sure, the notice itself all but guarantees it won't be him... but (A) Apologists are not known for their intelligence and (B) I'm not feeling charitable tonight anyway. So they can fuck off.January 23, 2013: "Man of Steel" Cameo for Classic Superman ActorPrint
Henry Cavill Jim Bowers, owner of CapedWonder.com and good friend of the Superman Homepage, made mention on his Facebook timeline that "there is going to be a cameo by a classic Superman movie actor in Man of Steel".
While Jim promised the actor a long time ago that should the cameo happen he would not reveal their identity, he added, "What do I mean by 'classic'? I mean that the actor could be anyone, alive or dead, who appeared in any (not all) of the Superman movies from 1948 to 1987 and 2006's Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut."
Jim adds, "I will not provide any additional information, or reveal the actor's identity, before the movie's premiere on June 14, 2013. Why ruin the surprise? Suffice to say that you should be pleased."
The cameo is absolutely true and not a rumor. Who do you think it could be?
URL- http://www.supermanhomepage.com/news.php?readmore=12396#comments
Who's it going to be? Fucked if I know. I'm kinda done with Jack Larson and Noel Neil cameos though so I hope it's not them. Some people have suggested it'll be a photograph of Reeve... which... *sigh*. Look, I'm sick and fucking tired of the Donnerverse. Part of me thinks any reboot can't possibly get far enough away from Donner for my tastes so a Reeve cameo of any kind is just plain unwelcome. Ditto anything else Donner-related. To my knowledge, Bond fans don't have to put up with neverending references to Connery and Dr. No so why can't we as fans just fucking get over Donner already?
So who will it be? My hunch is that if they made a cameo appearance on SV, we can pretty much rule them out... except Reeve. That leaves a lot of people on the table. Me, I wonder what Phyllis Coates is up to these days...
Oh, and am I the only one who gets pissed off when people advertise spoilers and then refuse to deliver on them? It's invariably done in the name of "saving the surprise". Well then fuckhead, why not go the full nine, keep your mouth shut and let us all get caught off-guard as Snyder presumably intends? I'll venture that it's because they don't want to be responsible for the leak... but when it inevitably happens, they can say "yep, that's the spoiler, I knew it all along, of course, I was just trying to protect the fans because, y'know, the fans are all I care about in spite of the fact that I run a merch and ad revenue-based web page."

I always thought it was a nice touch to bring in Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill for their cameos in the Donner film. I do agree that it should be a cameo of someone who hasn't already done that, especially twice in Neill's case. I'd like to see Dean Cain or Dana Delany pop up.

I see a ton of people tossing Christopher Reeve's name about, but they failed to read & comprehend one little thing:
Did he see the future, and knew almost 10 YEARS AGO that 'MOS' would be made, and promised Chris he'd keep quiet? Because Mr. Reeve passed away on October 10th, 2004.
I have a feeling it's either Kidder or Sarah Douglas.

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/nailbiter111/news/?a=73080
- Spoiler:
- MAN OF STEEL: Richard Cetrone & Revard Dufresne Kryptonian Villians?
Spoilers! Yesterday, a report from the London Toy Fair revealed a new Kryptonian villain for Man Of Steel, and today, Comicbook.com is reporting that they can confirm not one, but two actors that are playing Kryptonian villains. Check it out!
nailbiter111 - 1/22/2013
Yesterday, a Man of Steel lego set included a figure by the name of Tor-An. At that point the internet jumped to the conclusion that the character, which in the comics is a Kryptonian villain, would be in the film. Now, this wasn't a surprise to me as I already revealed months ago that Tor-An would be in the film. The character was listed on the leaked call sheet that I posted, which Warner Bros. later had us yank.
So, the only mystery left is, who is playing Tor-An? I'll defer to Comicbook.com on this matter, as they have a scoop about the actor playing Tor-An, and reveal another Kryptonian villain and the actor playing that role too."In fact, according to the source, Tor-An will be played by Richard Cetrone. In addition, to Tor-An, another Phantom Zone villain named Dev-Em will appear in the movie. Dev-Em will be played Revard Dufresne. Both Richard Cetrone and Revard Dufresne previously worked with Zack Snyder on Sucker Punch." Comicbook.com
TOR-AN - was a Kryptonian and a member of the military guild who had served under General Zod. Along with Zod, he was one of dozens of Kryptonians imprisoned within the Phantom Zone. When Zod and his followers were freed from the Phantom Zone, his second in command, Ursa, was charged with assigning five Krypontians as sleeper agents on Earth. Tor-An assumed the identity of a human entrepreneur named Carter, the CEO of the Empire Communications Network based out of Sydney Australia. - dc.wikia
DEV-EM - was a juvenile delinquent on the planet Krypton who became imprisoned in the Phantom Zone. Eventually he escaped during the 30th Century, where he turned over and became a teenage super-hero. He has been a member of the Interstellar Counter-Intelligence Corps and the Legion of Super-Heroes. - dc.wikia

Re: We Need Some Movie News
Personally I don't mind cameos from actors/actresses from previous Superman interpretations as long they're done as homages. Makes me wish Christopher Reeve was still alive, I bet he would have made a cameo in the film as if it were a short "Passing the Torch" scene. But I do hope they dedicate this one to Christopher Reeve at the end of the film and do it better than how SR did it!
