It looks like he's snapping a handcuff.

I hate Wal-Mart. HATE them. But, I got my 4 passes when I stopped in around noon today.

I got my 2 tickets early this morning. Actually earlier than I even needed to because there was no line! I saw no MOS display for merchandise but I could've missed it I suppose. At my local Walmart the employees wouldn't even wear the capes like the promotion stated! I guess they were ashamed or something. And another bummer. I know that everyone is not on board with 3-D. That's fine. But I do intend to see this film in 3-D this summer hopefully at IMAX. Anyway the letdown here was that my local store only had 2-D tickets & it was also for a certain theater over 30+ minutes away. But I bought the tickets anyway because I assume I'll work out something for IMAX & I didn't want to miss out on this advance screening.

However this evening I went to another nearby city for supper, etc. & stopped at Walmart there. They had both versions of the tickets! They too only offered one theater though but still..........& they had the MOS display! So go figure. I just hope this ain't some 'lackluster' response on duh general public's part. It's like Superman is having to prove himself all over again, just like the Hulk. But they finally got the Hulk right. Let's just not wait that long for Supes, 'K

Heads up you guys, we have more MOS related videos up online but be warned, the second video may contain a high percentage of awesomeness that could be too extreme for your own health. By all means, watch at your own risk!

Can't believe I missed this.

Yeah, picked up my tickets too. 2D, of course. None of that 3D ripoff garbage for me, thanks. We arrived at about 8'ish in the morning and there was a "line" in the sense that a few people were ahead of us but no big deal. Four or maybe five people were ahead of us. This is the longest "line" I've heard about any dealing with (although maybe there were big lines at other stores; I wouldn't know).

There were three Wal-Mart employees jockeying the cash registers and each wore a Superman/MOS cape. These looked like fairly high quality items. I discovered that the capes came from higher up. These apparently aren't intended to be official tie-ins for sale. Even so, I happen to believe everything is for sale if the price is right... and if you're speaking to the owner. However, the employees made it clear that the capes are property of the company so I figured there was no point in offering to buy a cape off one of their backs if it wasn't even theirs to sell to begin with.

But yes, the thought crossed my mind.

Anyway, got my two tickets and couldn't be happier.

It's surprising that some people are responding negatively to the new trailer. To me, it looks like just more confirmation of the awesome Snyder is bringing to the production. And bear in mind, some of this stuff is coming from decidedly non-Apologist sources. So I'm at a loss to understand what I'm seeing that they're not.

Post  non_amos Wed May 22, 2013 10:48 am

My local Walmart now has 'somewhat' of a MOS display. Not exactly like the one in the other town. The other display had more of the action figures of Superman & Zod & all the T-shirts appeared to be 'Boys' sizes. My own local store has adult-sized shirts but I've not bought one yet. So it's not identical but they did finally put one up.

I just wonder how long before Walmart has a veritable slew of DVDs & Blu-Rays for sale of all things Superman? Walmart, like Vince McMahon, are not at a loss for 'promoting a product' & 'milking' it for everything it's worth so I expect to at least see something shortly.

I haven't see these posted here yet but here's a couple of new TV spots, one being a commercial for Hardees. It's Hardee's here anyway. If you're on the West Coast it's apparently Carl's Jr. The other one is just a new TV spot with previously unseen footage to some extent. But check out the burger commercial, it's pretty cool!

Note: I don't know why these ain't showing up as the actual videos. I'm following the same steps but I don't know if it's a Firefox problem or what but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it only works if I spend a grueling time playing with it. Just don't feel like that right now but there they are. Please feel free to post the correct version.

EDIT TO ADD: And now I get it to work but the URLs look different this time. Go figure.

I picked up a drink at Carl's Jr. just to get a cup.

It's funny, that burger will do everything BUT make you look like Cavill's Superman. So using 'MOS' to promote it is kind of......yeah.

I'm glad that this film is now getting some serious sponsorship though even if the burger should be for Heart Attack Man instead of Superman. And I tell you the truth, these 'promos' look soooo infinitely better than what Singerman tried to do back then that it ain't even funny. Night & Day.

Everything with Singerman felt artificial. It was a slick and expensive marketing campaign, don't get me wrong, but the cereal tie-in, most of the toys and other shit just felt paint-by-number to me. Something about manly men eating manly food being tied in with Cavill's Superman (a manly-looking guy) seems like a natural fit somehow. The toys seem a bit more interesting and inventive this time around, so on and so forth. Took forever to get started but, between the miscellaneous trailers and TV spots, the tie-ins and the toys, this has been a pretty enjoyable marketing campaign so far. At this point, Man of Steel is riding on a gravy train with biscuit wheels. The final push over the next few weeks should do the trick for a nice opening weekend (I hope).

Zack Snyder Producing Superman Animated Short With Bruce Timm, WB Unveils New Logo
UPDATE: As part of the 75th Anniversary of Superman, Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment have unveiled a new logo celebrating the Last Son of Krypton that will be used in comic books, video games, film and television. Plus, details on a Zack Snyder produced Superman animated short.

We Need Some Movie News - Page 41 New%20Superman%2075th%20anniversary%20logo%20DC%20Comics

As Superman celebrates 75 years, Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment are putting his visage on all of their products. Expect to see this new logo on any upcoming video games, comic books, television shows and films. Said new WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara, "Warner Bros. is privileged to be home to the global Superman brand, which has had an unparalleled impact on popular culture for 75 years. We are proud to commemorate this milestone with exciting entertainment across the entire studio and across the globe, ensuring this enduring icon reaches new generations of audiences.”

There's also news of a Zack Snyder produced animated short currently in production. Obviously, it's too late to have such a feature play before Man of Steel but don't be surprised if the animated short is included on the blu-ray/dvd. This animated short is something truly special as working with Snyder will be none other than the legendary Bruce Timm, as well as Geof Johns, Peter Girardi and new animated feature film golden boy, Jay Oliva. Specific details on the plot of the animated short are being kept under wraps but here's what THR's insider sources say:

Details for the short are being kept secret (maybe in a lead vault?), but insiders tell Heat Vision Snyder envisioned one continuous shot, without edits, that's an homage to the Man of Steel and his many iterations over the past 75 years: Max Fleischer's cartoons, on-screen portrayals by George Reeve and Christopher Reeves, iconic versions drawn by artists Wayne Boring, Curt Swan and Neal Adams, on up through Henry Cavill’s interpretation in Man of Steel.

WB and DC plan to bring snippets of the animated feature to San Diego Comic Con this year, where THR says that will be just one of many special treats for fans. The promotional effort will begin with Scott Snyder and Jim Lee's Superman Unchained and continue all the way until Christmas. What happens in 2014? The company begins celebration of another flagship hero celebrating his 75th, Batman.

UPDATE: With official Press Release:

BURBANK, CA (May 30, 2013) – In celebration of the 75th anniversary of Superman, Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment have revealed plans befitting one of the most popular and enduring Super Heroes of all time.

To honor Superman—the world’s first Super Hero—for reaching such an incredible milestone, the companies are kicking off a year of celebration including a new commemorative Superman 75th anniversary logo as well as an animated short tribute chronicling the rich 75-year history of the character, it was announced today by Kevin Tsujihara, Chief Executive Officer, Warner Bros. Entertainment.

First appearing in the comic book Action Comics #1, dated June 1938, Superman quickly became a cultural icon, winning fans around the world in live-action and animated form in nearly every known entertainment medium. In feature films, TV shows, radio, video games, publishing and merchandise, he has battled some of the greatest villains ever created in his endless pursuit of truth, justice and the American way.

Tsujihara stated, “Warner Bros. is privileged to be home to the global Superman brand, which has had an unparalleled impact on popular culture for 75 years. We are proud to commemorate this milestone with exciting entertainment across the entire Studio and across the globe, ensuring this enduring icon reaches new generations of audiences.”

DC Entertainment and the Studio’s various divisions, including Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will mark this extraordinary anniversary with a range of highly anticipated events and products, kicking off with the release of the much anticipated summer-blockbuster “Man of Steel.”

The new animated short, currently in production, is being produced by Zack Snyder and pays homage to Superman and many iterations of the Super Hero throughout his 75 years. A sneak peek of this short is planned for Comic-Con International: San Diego in July and the finished version will debut late summer.

The new commemorative logo takes its cue from the iconic Superman costume, featuring predominantly blue coloring with a splash of red and highlights a bold silhouette of the Man of Steel with his cape waving behind him and the block-style lettering of “75 Years.” The mark will be rolled out by all the divisions on Superman-related promotions, products and initiatives. DC Entertainment will be the first to feature the new logo on the upcoming Superman Unchained comic book by artist Jim Lee and writer Scott Snyder, on sale Wednesday, June 12.

“Superman is undeniably the greatest Super Hero in the world and likely the most influential comic book character of all time,” according to Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment. “In addition to being an enduring presence in pop culture for the last 75 years, he continues to be a commanding global icon. DC Entertainment and all of Warner Bros. look forward to celebrating this important, year-long anniversary for Superman.”

In tandem with the various special celebrations comes the release of this summer’s tent pole action adventure feature “Man of Steel,” opening in theaters nationwide June 14.

Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, stated, “Superman is a larger-than-life figure, making the big screen the perfect place to experience his adventures, and ‘Man of Steel’ delivers with first rate story-telling that is broadly entertaining. It couldn’t be more fitting that the centerpiece of our summer slate hits theaters during this commemorative year.”

“It’s a great honor for all of us involved in ‘Man of Steel’ to carry on the tradition of Superman for longtime fans as well as a new generation of moviegoers,” director Zack Snyder said. “I’m so excited to share the movie with them and to be a part of this celebration.”

Superman enthusiasts can also look forward to much more, including:

“Injustice: Gods Among Us,” a new fighting game franchise that allows players to experience the power, gadgetry and unparalleled strength of some of the most popular DC Comics Super Heroes and Super-Villains such as Superman and Lex Luthor, was released on April 16 from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

“Superman: Unbound,” an all-new DC Universe Animated Original Movie that pits Superman against Brainiac—a devastating force of flesh and machine with Earth squarely in his sights—was released on May 7 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

“Man of Steel” and Superman products are available for fans of all ages, including toys, costumes, apparel, party goods and publishing from Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

“Superman Unchained,” the much anticipated new comic book series that centers on a mystery that is frustrating the hero in both the Superman and Clark Kent aspects of his identity ultimately revealing a brand-new villain, debuts on June 12 from DC Entertainment.

“Infinite Crisis,” an all-new multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that delivers a heart-pounding competitive player vs. player battle experience set in the legendary DC Multiverse, a world in which familiar DC Comics characters such as Superman have been reimagined in startling ways, debuts in fall of 2013 from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

“DC Nation” Superman Shorts, a series of all-new Superman-themed animated shorts produced by Warner Bros. Animation and airing on Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block throughout the year.

DC Entertainment’s “We Can Be Heroes” giving campaign launches its second crowdfunding initiative in June focused on Superman and featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and limited edition merchandise to engage, excite and empower legions of fans. Get something good. Do something great.

I heard what could quite possibly be the WORST reason for someone NOT to see 'Man Of Steel':

Henry Cavill has "stubby" arms.

Seriously. Someone actually said that to me.

Now, even after showing them numerous pictures debunking this retarded notion, they were still unconvinced. Makes me nervous for the BO totals if people use THIS as a reason not to see a movie these days...

We Need Some Movie News - Page 41 Empty Re: We Need Some Movie News

Post  thecolorsblend Tue Jun 04, 2013 1:56 am

By any chance, is this a person an Apologist or something? Maybe a swimmer's build is more their speed.

Look, all I really have to go on is anecdotal evidence. But Lone Ranger, Wolverine, Kick Ass 2, Riddick or any of the rest? They aren't on anybody's radar that I'm hanging out with. But MOS sure as hell is, and in a big bad way. I gave up predicting box office numbers long ago but I observe significant interest in this movie in a way that was utterly fucking absent from Singerman. It was news to most people that a new "Superman" movie was even out in the summer of 2006. But here, thanks to Facebook, I know of at least two church groups which have set up social outings/events at MOS screenings on opening day. What does that imply about the rest of the country? Jacknothing. But it is suggestive that there's a keen awareness of and interest in this movie that have been building over the past few weeks. We'll see how it shakes out but I've got a good feeling.

To your point though, it does concern me that such people vote.

K-Site has a shitload of new promo images from MOS up. As Craig himself points out, some of these have a distinct Smallville vibe. I think we'll find that SV was very influential on this production. Obviously that suits me just fine but I felt like it needed to be pointed out. Anyway, here's the link.

Definitely some cool images there. Just looked at every one of them. And I can't complain about the Smallville vibe either. This day & time it certainly beats Donnerverse & I'm also glad this 'Smallville' wasn't filmed 'Down Under' if you get my drift. Wink

We Need Some Movie News - Page 41 Empty Re: We Need Some Movie News

Post  thecolorsblend Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:01 pm

A friend of mine at my LCS has seen MOS. I asked him for a "yes" or "no" answer: Did he enjoy the movie. As might be expected of blowhard comics fans like us, he said he couldn't answer it that way. He said he enjoyed it immensely but there was one particular scene that soiled the entire experience for him. He walked out of the theater dejected.

I don't know any more specifics because I did not want to probe beyond this. I'm a big boy and can formulate my own opinions. Even so, I wanted his take because he's known as a "Superman guy" at the shop. And to explain his cred, this guy sounds the same as any of us when the subject of Singerman comes up. The usual stuff. Shit casting, Singer, shit effects, Singer, pleather, Singer, The Kid, Singer, BJ Blandon, Singer and Singer. So this isn't a disgruntled Apologist shooting his mouth off about the reboot. He was speaking from the heart and he genuinely felt let down.

Me, I've found I'm taking a very holistic approach to MOS. I've got comics (over 35 years worth, in fact), ten seasons of Smallville, all four Reeve films, fucktons of animated shows/movies and plenty of other stuff to choose from. I don't need MOS. So if a few things are off as compared to what I would want to see on the screen, eh, I'll live. I know enough about the movie to be assured of enjoying the overwhelming majority of it. The colors look good, the effects seem top shelf, Snyder is not to be fucked with when it comes to his appreciation of Superman, ditto Cavill, the cast is great, etc. Guilty until proven innocent... but the movie has been proven innocent on the shit that really matters. As long as Snyder does me right with the action sequences, that's about as much as I really care about anymore; anything beyond that is gravy.

Beyond all that, it's one guy's opinion. Take it with any amount of salt you think is right.

Do you suppose it has anything to do with that 'unconfirmed rumor' that you put spoiler tags on in your previous post? If so, that could explain a lot. It might have turned him off in a major way just because 'that ain't Superman'. But I'm just guessing at best. Could be anything. For all I know it might show 2 gays kissing or something. It probably won't be that but just trying to figure out what might have offended him. But suffice it to say that if there's only 1 offensive scene in a film that's over 2 hours long then it probably won't offend me too much. I mean, just look at Singerman Peeps. Practically the entire film was offensive so there you go.

The thought crossed my mind. It's funny because you don't necessarily want to ask for too much but on the other hand that's one hell of a grenade to roll out there. And honestly, if it was coming from almost anybody else at that store, I'd immediately dismiss it as fanboy whining. But he's not a stereotypical fanboy (apart from his appearance anyway) so I've got to wonder.

His story is that he saw some advance screening or something. I believe him because (A) he's a straight shooter about everything else and (B) it's a kind of stupid thing to lie about anyway.

Anyway, just got back from my tobacco shop. I went up there to pick up some stuff for my new e-cig kit. Basically, one of the batteries died and I needed a replacement. While I was there, the following conversation took place.

Tobacco Shop Dude- "So there's your total on the screen. Oh wow, I *LOVE* your Superman wallet! Dude, I *SO* can't wait for the new movie!"
Colors- "Yeah?"
Tobacco Shop Dude- "Yeah man, looks cool! I *ALWAYS* wanted to see Superman beat the crap out of somebody on his level. Looks awesome!"
Colors- "Yeah, picked up my tickets for Thursday next week!"
Tobacco Shop Dude- "Oh man, they're showing the movie on Thursday!?!??!"
Colors- "Yeah, the Silverado has a showing at 7:00. There will probably be another one at midnight if nothing else."
Tobacco Shop Dude- "Can I get tickets for that?"
Colors- "I dunno, probably. Give them a call, I bet they can hook you up."
Tobacco Shop Dude- "Yeah man, I'll see if they have more 7:00 tickets. See you there, bro!"

It's one thing for core fans to be excited about Man of Steel. But when tobacco shop managers are in a Superman jersey, something's up.

We Need Some Movie News - Page 41 Empty Re: We Need Some Movie News

Oh, something else. I have no clue what the opening weekend for MOS might be. I've heard gossip indicating it could be pretty good though. Still, I've wondered that the last ditch effort some Apologists might make to shit-talk MOS far and wide if it makes less than $50'ish million on its opening weekend. So I figured I'd tackle that in advance. The opening weekend could be higher than $50 million for all I know. But if it's somehow less, keep in mind that Singerman had a five fucking day opening "weekend" to hit $50 million. If MOS hits $50 million on the standard two day opening weekend it'll have, it'll still be a pound-for-pound better opening weekend. And of course if it's more than $50 million, well, that addresses itself.

Honestly, the numbers are all the Apologists can rely on anymore to base their arguments. From directing talent to the writers to the cast to the production design to the costumes, we already know that everything about MOS is going to be far superior to anything Singerman had to offer. So numbers and box office are all they have left. And I suspect (but do not predict) that even that will be taken away from them as things unfold.

50 million? Dude! Ain't that way too low a figure? I expect this film to be in Avengers territory! I mean, whether it actually tops Avengers I don't know but look at similar performing films. Iron Man 3. The Dark Knight & The Dark Knight Rises. And I'm sure there are others. And since this thing is produced by duh Nolan I believe it'll get some of that business. However, the way Snyder obviously nailed the action is gonna nail serious word-of-mouth. Here's a link I got from my Facebook that may tell the tale:

Man of Steel Selling Better Than Iron Man 3

Seems Fandago made a goof when they released their most anticipated films for the Summer as they had Man of Steel way down at #6.

Of course, it came out at the same time as Iron Man 3, which was at the top of the pack.

Well, it turns out it's all good for Fandango as Man of Steel is apparently selling better than Iron Man 3.

It's reported that Man of Steel has become Fandango's top ticket-seller, outselling The Purge and The Internship.

It's also stated that in terms of advance ticket sales, Man of Steel is outpacing the previous Summer 2013 movies at the same point in the sales cycle, which would include Star Trek Into Darkness as well as Marvel Studios' billion dollar Iron Man 3 movie.

Perhaps audiences are in need of a good movie.

Man of Steel opens June 14th in IMAX 3D directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and Michael Shannon as Zod.

Head on over to the Cosmic Book News Man of Steel movie hub for more news, images and trailers.

I highlighted that last statement because it appears to be a jab at the films that have already come out recently including Iron Man & Star Trek. But as for MOS I think that the Jay Leno appearance will only help matters. Oh & I almost forgot. Right after that Christopher Meloni was on Jimmy Fallon's show with a clip of him about to get slaughtered by Faora, that is, until Superman cannon-balled her! Do you happen to have a clip for that? Smile

It's Singerman's number on that five day opening weekend it had. I suspect some Apologists will bitch and complain that we shouldn't have rebooted if MOS doesn't clear a similar figure. A common Apologist tactic is to ignore context ("$400 million worldwide!!") and I think they might in this case. The context they (and we) should be sensitive to in this case is that IF MOS only hits $50 million on the opening weekend (and I'm not predicting that; I'm outright saying I have no fucking idea what MOS will do its opening weekend), it'll still be superior to Singerman because Singerman had a five day opening weekend while MOS will only have a two day opening weekend.

You're more optimistic than I am. I cannot say what the final MOS numbers will be but I'd be shocked (although happy) if they were at or near Iron Man 3 or Avengers numbers.

It would've been really wonderful if they would define what the fuck that even means. Opening day? Opening weekend? What? Yeah, it's outselling Iron Man 3 on Fandango but I would love greater specificity (numbers, dates, etc) and I couldn't find it.

Your wish is my command. Check that spoiler thread. Figured that may be the smarter place for them.
