I know what the next big news from WB will be:
"Hey everyone, a Superman flick is coming out next year!"

Ah, but WHEN will this BIG news hit? July? September? December?
This is the problem with WB.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
Soooo....
It's 9 days until the supposed MOS panel at the SDCC and still NOTHING from WB.
A Comic-Con preview in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (which, if I got my facts right, is owned by WB) and NOTHING on Man of Steel, except for this quote; This year's Comic-Con could be the first step in DC's movie renaissance if early footage of Henry Cavill in Man of Steel proves to be bulletproof with fanboys and fangirls. (2006's Superman Returns, unfortunately, was not.)
Even Pacific Rim - which comes out about a month later than MOS - got a new still in the magazine.
Does WB think it can just throw everything out there in the last few months up until the movie comes out and that will do it? I wish I shared their confidence. Or is this Christopher Nolan's doing? Either way, im beginning to have serious doubts that we'll get anything substantial in the near future. Even the teaser will probably be a bunch of nothing. Eeeeh....

As much as I hate how they are waiting and waiting on things. Even if they do finally start up later this month with trailers/stills. Therre is still plently of time to get media blitz going. Is it the best way to do things no. But they probably as I think its been said they want to do approach they did with batman forr superman. I for one just want to see some images and footage already. So we can finally give some morre judgement on where the film is going.

I'm starting to identify with the camp that blames Nolan for this. In some ways, it makes sense. It worked for Batman, right? No reason the same secret/guerrilla approach can't be used with Superman, right? Well for about 1,000 obvious reasons, NO you can't use it with Superman. But tell those Nolan-whipped WB execs that...Alf wrote:Does WB think it can just throw everything out there in the last few months up until the movie comes out and that will do it? You'd think that they would've learned their lesson from SINGERMAN but I guess not. But like you've pointed out before, that film actually had some decent marketing. It's just that the final product left everyone wanting. So you'd think they'd want to differentiate MOS from that. However, this reminds me of how Marvel didn't do the best job letting people know the difference in their HULK films & it cost them initially, except now Hulk is a star due to THE AVENGERS. But SUPERMAN doesn't need to be a character that people 'come around to' in time. They need to get it now!

"From the makers of 'Singerman Peeps'".......

Got it in the mail Wednesday. That really IS all it said.
Even Pacific Rim - which comes out about a month later than MOS - got a new still in the magazine.
It's almost comical now.
Like, 'Laurel & Hardy' comical....

Actually, Snyder is definitely good at cutting a trailer. So I wouldn't expect anything less than stellar in that regard.
As to the rest, you're probably right.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
The WATCHMEN teaser is one of the finest trailers ever made. It summed up what the whole film would be like without giving too much away. The amusing part of it is that it uses a song that was originally written for BATMAN & ROBIN. I hated SUCKER PUNCH, but that got a good trailer as well*. So yeah, I expect nothing less than a spectacular teaser of SUPERMAN.
*Then again, lots of shit films had brilliant trailers. Remember the really dark/moody SPIDER-MAN 3 teaser?

About that song you mention, refresh my memory please. I believe the song I'm thinking about is in the regular trailer though & it sounds like THE SMASHING PUMPKINS. The problem is I don't recall ever actually hearing that tune in the film itself so what's up with that? Nevertheless is that the song you're talking about? And even if not, does anyone have an explanation for this absentee tune?

Re: We Need Some Movie News
There's actually two versions of that song by The Smashing Pumpkins. One was used in BATMAN & ROBIN titled "The End Is the Beginning Is the End", while the alternate version titled "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" was used in the WATCHMEN trailer. Both songs were released in the BATMAN & ROBIN soundtrack album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_%26_Robin_%28soundtrack%29
This is the song heard in the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZApl8-I-itE
This is the version heard in the WATCHMEN trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59g5R8rwqpY
It's not heard in WATCHMEN because the song was made in 1997 while the film takes place in 1986 and only uses period specific music, except for the ending credits with My Chemical Romance.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
You know, im not some kind of marketing expert, because when it comes down to it I don't know squat about it, aside from what I've followed from other big budget movies - both failures and successes - so I do hope that whatever WB has planned works out for the best (if the movie delivers of course), but only because Superman deserves it.
However, I can't help but being a bit frustrated with it all. And this is obviously purely because im a fan following the film, but quite frankly, im getting quite fed up over this lack of news.

Re: We Need Some Movie News
Oh and guess what. Pacific Rim and The Hobbit (the other two WB presentations) BOTH got posters for the SDCC today, at almost the same time. Man of Steel? Nothing so far. I mean, seriously WB? WTF?? Un-fuckin-believable!
Re: We Need Some Movie News
Yeah, this 'Nolan top secrecy at all costs' really sucks! And I've used this HULK analogy before but it's so true:
2003 ANG LEE HULK: Got off to a good start but then quickly bombed because it was simply too weird. AKA 'not what fans expected'.
2008: MARVEL STUDIOS HULK: Much superior product but performed with almost identical box office! The story was better, the Hulk looked infinitely better, so what went wrong? Poor marketing if you ask me. As much as I like Marvel Studios, I feel that they failed to differentiate between Lee's Hulk & the reboot. So people probably thought of Ang Lee's Hulk & wrote off this film! But guess what? They take an even more improved approach with the Hulk in THE AVENGERS & it paid off! Now the Hulk is the topic of conversation. But look what it took to get there!
Now let's look at SUPERMAN. Modern fans loved the Christopher Reeve version but that version had been over for decades, literally. So they decide to reboot, although it wasn't a true reboot but rather Singer gave us a 'vague sequel':
2006: SINGERMAN PEEPS: Got off to an OK start but then bombed quickly, got crushed by Johnny Depp & took until October to finally reach 200 million at the domestic box office. And this version also divided the fanbase!
2013: THE MAN OF STEEL: Seeing a pattern here yet? At least Singerman did have decent marketing. It just failed because it is a failure! But like TIH, MOS is supposed to be a reboot. Supposedly. A much improved Superman, right? But that's a fact that right now only fanboys know! That's why this sucker needs serious marketing, unless they want to repeat Marvel's mistake with TIH. But let me stress this. Superman does NOT need to be a character that it takes a JUSTICE LEAGUE film for people to 'come around'.

They released SDCC posters for both 'The Hobbit' and 'Pacific Rim' today. Some people were hoping for a MOS one too.

Well I guess they're still waiting then! And supposedly there's gonna be a teaser trailer with Bane Rises but we'll see on that too I guess. You really do have to begin to wonder just what duh brothers strategy is here?!

Re: We Need Some Movie News
I LOVE that song/those songs. I like the Pumpkins in general but that song felt like a real thematic fit for Watchmen. I understand why it couldn't be used in the film proper but, man oh man, it worked perfectly in that teaser.James Stocks wrote:There's actually two versions of that song by The Smashing Pumpkins.
