You're joking about Nathan Fillion, right? The reason I ask that is that I seem to recall his name coming up for the Superman reboot & whatever else his name may have come up for probably suggested by apologists. I know he's good on Castle but whether he'd be good in a superhero film I don't know.

Joe Manganiello was definitely a contender for Superman but would we want him for Batman? Don't know there either. For Batman though they don't necessarily go for the most buff guy anyway. Duh Nolan may have had Bale work out some but we know Michael Keaton wasn't the most awesome athletic specimen but he certainly turned out to be the best Batman. I remember Burton wasn't really looking for physicality anyway but rather 'psyche'.

I'd have to give some thought to who should play Batman but one name that comes to mind is Armie Hammer. He was supposed to have played the role anyway in the failed Justice League: Mortal project. Since he's on a roll right now, should he be considered? Don't know there either.

Yes, I am joking. Internet commenters bitch and complain about casting directors using the same list of the same five or six names for every movie whether they're appropriate or not but they do the same motherfucking thing. Fillion's name pops up every goddamn time a new superhero movie starts up. Green Lantern, recasting Tony Stark, recasting Bruce Banner (before Ruffalo got the gig), Harvey Dent in TDK, on and on and on. Jim Caviezel's name was thrown around first for Batman and when that went to Christian Bale he got slid over to Superman (which Routh ended up getting and we all know how that turned out) and when MOS was getting started his name popped up for Jor-El. Gaaaah, you asked a simple question and it touched off a rant. Sorry.

My main argument for Joe Mang is a consolation prize for missing out on Superman. Plus, the guy's got serious chops, he's big and imposing, he's played roles where he's had to be big and imposing, he played those roles very well, he's got a decent fan base and he seems like a cool guy. There may be a better candidate out there but I'd at least give the dude a screen test.

Hammer is good actor but his look and, Lord knows, his height (motherfucker is, like, 6'8" or something) suggest Tim Sale's Superman to me. That's one reason I was a cheerleader for Hammer when MOS was first getting under way. I have no problem with Cavill (he was in my top five as I recall) but Hammer would've been my first choice. My logic was that he's going to play a superhero sooner or later so why not cast him as Superman and take him off the table for anything else? I dunno, Hammer would definitely be just fine as Batman but dammit I wanted him for Superman!

Besides, do we really want a Batman who dwarfs Superman?

Still, you raise a good point about former-cast members of Justice League of America- Mortal. Should some of them get another shot at their roles?

Christian Bale Says He Will NOT be in the Justice League Movie

Since before Man of Steel was released and the speculation for a Justice League movie hit an all time high, many fans have been wondering if Christian Bale will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the ensemble film. We now have a direct answer from the man, and it's not the one you wanted to hear.
“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy,” Bale told EW. “Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”
”I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
 
There's been no official word about when a Justice League film might happen, but some sources say it could be as early as 2015. Man of Steel star Henry Cavill seems to think they should take their time and make it really worth it for the fans.

 Like we didn't see this one coming! We're better off anyway because 'Robin' from TDKR won't have to become Batman before he's even Robin! And maybe, just maybe, we'll get a Batman who can team up with Superman & actually fit into the Justice League as well. And can you also imagine a new Joker? I can.

 I know what you mean. I was impressed with Bale in Batman Begins but it's like he's 'phoned in' his performance ever since. He also appeared to no longer care about 'bulking up' for the role either after the 1st film. Add to that Heath Ledger stole the show in the 2nd film but then we get Hardly Bane in the 3rd one, I mean, sheesh!  What more can you want?

What more can you want? Well, I miss Michael Keaton in the role until this day! The problem there though is that ship has sailed. So what do you do? I guess get someone who can at least approach Keaton's status, kinda like the situation with Cavill vs. Reeve. Maybe Keaton, like Reeve, will never be replaced but..........that doesn't mean that we can't get another memorable Batman, capice?

Good question. I'm running low on Batman candidates these days. Batman has had better luck on screen than Superman has. All Batman actors are demonstrably easy to replace though. Yeah, I love Keaton but I didn't miss him too much when Kilmer was doing his thing. Still, it's a tough one. Bale had a very Batman look to begin with. You need someone who can contrast Cavill's noble jawline. And for the moment, to hell with tradition, cast a blonde/light brown as Batman to set him even further apart from Superman. That opens up a lot more possibilities, yes?

I still want Guy Pearce. If not, and they skew younger, how about Liam Hemsworth?

Believe it or not someone over on the comments at SHH suggested Karl Urban for Batman/Bruce Wayne. Forget the debacle that was apparently 'dreddful' but he does do a mean Dr. McKoy! However, I'm also aware of the comments he made during Sylvester Stallone's time of bereavement so I'm sure that 'black-listed' him with some fans. I dunno, maybe he was pissed off that he felt like, maybe he wasn't being given a fair chance in the role of Judge Dredd & had to live in Sly's shadow. Even so he still could've handled that situation better than what he did. But who knows? If he'd apologize to Sly then maybe the fans could forgive him too? Even so I still don't know about him playing Batman. That sounds like one of those suggestions like Nathan Fillion for Superman. I dunno.....

Once again, Guy Pearce or Liam Hemsworth would be fine with me.

I tell you who I don't want...Zack Ephon or Channing Tatum or any other non talented pretty boys....I think the guy who played Khan Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek into Darkness would be ok.....btw I wanted Guy Pearce for batman begins when they were casting...too bad he is 45...

I'm usually not big on recycling names. Joe Manganiello popped up for Superman when MOS was getting under way but obviously that never happened. And maybe that's for the best because I found this pic on some other forum when someone suggested him for Batman. Once you get past the photoshooty aspects of the picture... it ain't bad.

The only drawback I can think of is that he's 36.
