Those weren't lost on me. Partly I'm okay with that since Captain Mar... ugh, I mean, "Shazam" arguably plays into a similar demographic and touches upon similar themes.Apologist Puncher wrote:Notice the fucking retarded "Harry Potter" rip-off's?
I did.
I wouldn't have minded if those touches weren't so obvious though...

Re: General DC Relaunch Thread (including FAQ)
Oh yeah, something else, one thing I'm kind of happy about with this thing is that, unlike unusual, DC isn't announcing this thing a year in adfuckingvance. No, the story begins in JLA #7. So March 2012. That's not a bad lead-in. Anything's better than announcing this shit a year ahead of time, which is their usual custom. By the time whatever it is comes out, most of the time I just don't care anymore after endless waiting, countless previews and, likely, a few delays. Earth One- Batman, I'm looking pretty much right at you.
DC should stick to this model.

New "Power Girl" and "Huntress":

Looks to me like Image Comics has bases for a lawsuit:

Huntress doesn't look to different from what I seen of her in images/cartoons. As for powergirl not really feeling this redesign for her.

Anyone want to fill me in on what you're talking about? I don't keep up with the comics, especially Image, but that Image cover looks like a ripoff of Superman to me so how could Image have a lawsuit? What am I missing here?

Re: General DC Relaunch Thread (including FAQ)
Supreme (the Image character) may be roughly a Superman archetype but it looks pretty obvious that the new Power Girl has pretty much stolen his outfit and general appearance. It's a pretty big difference between those two. If Rob Liefeld wanted to, I think he'd have one hell of a case on his side.non_amos wrote:Anyone want to fill me in on what you're talking about? It's one thing to base your character on an "archetype". It's another to out-and-out steal the look.

EARTH 2 CHARACTER DESIGNS – WONDER WOMAN
Wednesday, February 29th, 2012
By Josh Kushins
Coming in May, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 “Second Wave” will literally expand the world-building efforts of the comprehensive publishing initiative. With the addition of a parallel Earth that features prominently into both EARTH 2 and WORLDS’ FINEST, the developing narrative will encompass new heroes from distinctly different backgrounds, building on the shared universe in some surprising ways.
“Due the events that open the saga of EARTH 2, Wonder Woman is already the last Amazon of this world and she is determined to avenge her sisters…at whatever cost,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson.
“How did Wonder Woman come to be the last of the Amazons?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “It’s one of the mysteries we’ll be getting into with the series. While there will be recognizable faces and settings on EARTH 2, don’t for a moment think you’re on familiar ground. Do that, and you let your guard down…and then you’ll end up like the rest of the Amazons.”
Here’s a first look at the Wonder Woman of EARTH 2, designed by Jim Lee.

Yeah, it's a wonder that she's covering up as much as she is.
So let's see. DC is gonna make the Earth-2 ( & other) guys look gay but with the girls it's the usual T&A?

- Spoiler:
- COMICS: Phantom Stranger Appears In Justice League #6, Hints At Putting DCnU Back To The Way It Was
SPOILERS:Apparently the Phantom Stranger isn't a fan of DC's New 52 and has plans to revert the universe back to it's original continuity.
Graphic City aka Mark Julian - 2/29/2012
Justice League #6 was a pretty good read, light on the dialogue and heavy on the action as the JL put a stop to Darkseid's evil machinations. However, the standout development of the issue was the sudden appearance of The Phantom Stranger, who approaches the equally mysterious Pandora, the woman responsible for the relaunch of the DC Universe. In short, Stranger arrives to chastise Pandora for getting involved in the "real world" and resetting the universe. Sh*# gets real when Stranger responds to Pandora's rude greeting by replying "Be glad they [Circle of Eternity] didn't send The Spectre."
Specifically, Phantom Stranger has arrived to take "Pandora's Box" from her and reset the universe to the way it was. Pandora responds by shooting Stranger in the head, with strange mystical guns, to which Stranger promptly gets back up and and, excuse my paraphrasing , "try again, b*#ch."
However, Pandora has the last say, as the threat to reveal The Phantom Stranger's true name, stops him dead in his tracks.
This turn of events has me absolutely fascinated and I'm dying to know what happens next and how the cosmic powers in the DCU handle what Pandora has done. Now, while it was strongly hinted at, there's no way to tell that DC will indeed go back to the original continuity but it was VERY STRONGLY hinted at that there are entities out there who are very aware and very unhappy with what Pandora has done.
Phantom Stranger says to Pandora hand over the box [i.e. Pandora's Box, or maybe the original DC Universe].
Pandora doesn't think that's a good idea.

Re: General DC Relaunch Thread (including FAQ)
Yeah, I was going to bring that up. I don't think it's going to happen. At least not anytime soon.
As to the story, it just felt a little too thin. I realize Johns is going for a Jim Lee-friendly, brainless action movie vibe with this book but basically GL and Batman investigate a strange energy signature, they bump into Superman, get their asses kicked, Darkseid shows up with parademons in tow, Wonder Woman and Aquaman invite themselves to the party, the team gets their asses kicked again and then they find a way to get rid of Darkseid in two or three pages.
Call me crazy but it shouldn't be that easy to sum up six issues, even if you're writing to Jim Lee's strengths as an artist.
Oh well. At least Johns didn't write Superman as a wuss or brainless clod. These days, I take my victories where I can get them.

But they have ALREADY decided to give themselves an "out".
Why so soon, if things are going good?

Re: General DC Relaunch Thread (including FAQ)
Because if you're going to introduce an in-universe escape hatch for possible use in the future, you need to do it right about now. Plus, my theory more and more is that DCnU happened primarily because of Superman legal issues. Suppose it comes to the point that DC truly does lose out on Superman permanently. They'll eventually have to write him out of the universe (good luck!) and this stuff with Pandora could be a good way to set up the return of the original DCU, minus Superman. If they're going to write him out of the universe, they'll likely do it in some big storyline. It's now March 2012. If they're going to lose Superman in 2013, they'll need to begin setting up that storyline right now.Apologist Puncher wrote:thecolorsblend wrote:Yeah, I was going to bring that up. It's just a theory but more and more I'm convinced it has teeth to it.

Strange to think, I was this close to starting a new thread today saying I'd maybe misjudged Geoff Johns. Apart from his Superman crap, he's a good writer. I'm totally digging Aquaman right now. But then this... good night, that's a fugly costume.
