non_amos wrote:Yeah, but they do have 'em on Earth. I could buy a portrayal while still on Krypton but you'd think they'd figure it out after they're here? To quote Hackman-Luthor from S2, "with all this accumulated knowledge you'd think these dummies would learn to use a door knob".
They're soldiers. If the armor is what they are used to wearing into battle, being on Earth isn't going to change that.
And FYI, not a fan of armor either.

On What We Will And More Than Likely Won't See Zod Wearing In Man of Steel:"It's funny, when I go to red carpets people have this mockup photo of what they think I'm going to look like in the movie. But the point is it's totally inaccurate! [On the mockups], I have a Fu-Man Chu and some kind of SS uniform. I just want to tell everybody out there, that's not the way it is."
On The Kind Of Training Zack Snyder Has Him Doing For The Role:"Henry works out like a fiend and is in very, very good shape. That trainer who did 300, Mark Twight, is [on set]. I go and see him from time to time just because I enjoy it but the fact is that it really doesn't matter for me. With Henry I think there's a picture of him recently without his shirt on, so he has to be super fit."
On Whether He And TDKR Star Joseph Gordon-Levitt Compared Comic Book Movies On The Set Of Premium Rush:"Not really. He's a really sweet guy but I'm hunting him most of the movie, chasing him around, so we didn't talk much. We did have a couple of scenes together, but most of the time he's always just out of my reach."

Re: Michael Shannon Cast As Zod
Hm. A sort of SS type of deal then. What with the mo-cap and whatnot, I just assumed he was going to wear some sort of armor. The Pokolistan thing or maybe something else. But the SS thing kinda makes sense for the character. I mean, that's quite a statement to attach to the Kryptonian military in general (heh heh, get it? Cuz Zod... is a... oh forget it) and, apart from that, you'd think he'd be issued a prisoner's uniform before being sentenced to the Phantom Zone. But hey, at least it'll have a distinct military thing going.
Dunno why it has to be mo-cap though...

Actually, he said it WON'T be an "SS uniform".

Well its pretty much the black suit we seen and the armor that will be replacing the mo-cap suit. Cant wait to see what that looks like.

I really dig this cat, and can't wait to see what he brings to the table:
http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=50050
http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=50050
Talking to Shortlist Magazine (via The Times of India) the Man of Steel star has looked back on his first surprise meeting with director Zack Snyder, calling it one of the "most surreal" experiences of his life. Why? Well, Michael Shannon says that he simply couldn't understand why Snyder was offering him such a role. "It was one of the most surreal experiences of my life because I was against this panoramic window, looking out on these beautiful hills, rose bushes and hummingbirds while Zack was saying, 'And then, on Krypton, this happens.'"
"By the end, I was kind of confused. I was like, 'Is this an offer or not?' We shook hands and he said he wanted me as Zod," he added. "I was thinking, 'There's something wrong here. This is one of the largest films around. I'm not Robert De Niro - I don't understand why this is being plonked on my lap.'"
Things somehow got even more surreal for the actor when he found out that he wouldn't actually get the role until appearing in a "chemistry test" alongside Henry Cavill - who as I'm sure you already know is playing Superman - which left him more than a little baffled. "Warner Bros said they needed to see me and Henry together first. They called it a 'Chemistry Test'. I was like, 'What, do Zod and Superman make out? You want to see if any sparks fly?'"

The humor, the humility, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I dig reading these little interviews with him.

They definitely picked the right guy for the role.
Now how about a picture, Zack?

Some good comments there how he landed the job. Totally loled on the comment he said about a chemistry test with cavill.

It cuts two ways. If you don't respect his talent, you aren't familiar with his work. It's as simple as that. But the other thing is that AS A PERSON, he just seems like a fun guy to knock back a beer with. There's basically nobody from TDKRises that I could say that about, although Gordon-Levitt could be an exception.Apologist Puncher wrote:They definitely picked the right guy for the role.
Seriously. Or if it's a heavily CG/mo-cap thing, I'd settle for a conceptual drawing. SOMEthing. But then again, I'm willing to give Snyder a bit more leeway in this as there's more riding on Superman than could say about other superhero films. Batman's future is more or less assured. There'll be peaks and valleys but the character has a future. Superman... that's a bit shakier (and at the same time kind of an indictment of society). Now how about a picture, Zack?

I would LOVE to stand next to Tom Hardly. Just for shits & gigs.
And yes, Shannon has been someone you can't help noticing no matter WHAT movie he is in.

There really is no reason not to "throw us a bone". The general public will forget, sure. Until the end of next year when promotion REALLY starts. But the fans? It can go a loooong way.
Unless it sucks :/

Re: Michael Shannon Cast As Zod
Not much, but news for this film seems to have dried-up:
http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=50394
http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=50394
Michael Shannon is a fast rising star in Hollywood and he'll reach new levels in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot as the villainous alien General Zod. Shannon reportedly put the smack-down on his Australian co-star, Russel Crowe, who plays Superman’s biological father Jor-el.
“I think he’s out of the hospital, although I left as soon as he couldn’t get up off the floor,” he joked.
“I just said, ‘I’m done with you’, and I just walked out, so hopefully I won’t get fired from the movie. That would be awful, because they are paying me an awful lot of money,” he added.
It has been speculated that the fight between the two characters will take place on the alien planet of Krypton, and will showcase Superman's home world as never before seen in previous feature films.
Michael went on to state that he may be a little bit nervous about the pressure of playing the lead villain in the Man of Steel.
“It’s feeling kind of strange. I mean, it’s totally different than anything I have ever done before,” he revealed.
“I have never played an alien, or a general. I don’t really have a frame of reference for these things so you just have to use your imagination but I think that’s what we’re supposed to do anyway.”

It's been, what, almost FOUR MONTHS since the first picture was released? And since then nothing "official" has come out?
I just don't get it.

Could it be that news on MOS will be slow until the beginning of the new year? Weren't they supposed to be shooting in Vancouver & all? My guess is that news will be slow until early next year. Call it a hunch. A few months ago we were almost ready to write this film off as having been shelved but then we literally got an explosion of news! Leaked pics & all. And right now the big news seems to be the completion of Nolan's next Bat-film. Weren't the cast & crew of MOS supposed to take a holiday break anyway?

Leaked pics. Key words.

The Bros. Warner marketing department ISN'T, though.

Ahhh! Good point. Let's just hope they don't treat this film like they did GREEN LANTERN. He's their 'bread & butter' right now. Maybe we need 'equal opportunity' for superheroes now?

One thing you can definitely count on is 'The Dark Knight Rises' getting a media blitz.

Hopefully we will be getting stuff soon. I do wish we where getting more stuff. Being the fanboy and wanting to see more things for the film and its direction. But on the other hand we still have a yr and a half before the release and we still have I think two or three months left of first run filming. By then please wb/snyder give us some concept art/offical photos for the cast.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up there's another Michael Shannon interview only this time it toke place on a live broadcasting on BBC radio which can be heard by clicking over at BBC.Co.Uk
Also, during the interview there's a mention of a meteor shower scene taking place somewhere during the film possibly the scene where Kal-El arriving on earth! I know it sounds like a take from "Smallville" but aleast it would logically explain how Kryptonite got on earth!

Even if I wasn't a Smallville fan, I think I'd dig on the meteor shower concept... specifically because of the reason you say there. If that were to become a permanent part of the canon, I'd be cool with it.

Ya I dont see problem with it myself. It gives a logical reason with kryptonite arriving on earth. Plus the deal with his ship landing in earth in the 80s under cover from radar and all that.

Think of something else too. Early on we saw shots of Henry Cavill in Plano (Smallville) as Clark Kent but no glasses. Sound familiar? He also wore his 'plaid shirts'. That ring a bell? His hair also at times reminded me of, you guessed it, Tom Welling! I'd also dare say that the take that Kevin Costner is doing on Jonathan Kent is more in line with John Schneider than Glenn Ford. Ditto for Martha Kent. And now there gonna have a meteor shower as well? Is this, in a sense, gonna be SMALLVILLE, the MOVIE without really being as such? We know that Smallville as a TV series did 'pay homage' to the Reeve films in some ways but on the flip side of that, it was also it's own animal. So it sounds to me like that MAN OF STEEL may somewhat be emulating Smallville but like I said, it'll still be it's own animal? Could it almost be like making a big-screen adaptation of Smallville without really making it? The whole 'teen angst' thing about being superhuman I believe also plays into this early on? Just something to think about I guess.

Re: Michael Shannon Cast As Zod
I think we should buckle up and get ready for more of this. Adaptations obviously have a sort of incestuous relationship. In time, I think we'll see a lot more SV concepts brought into other media. Hell, you could argue that even Sucky Origin riffed significantly on SV (red jacket/blue shirt, Chloe, Lionel, etc). Birthright sure did. Superman/Batman did. For better or for worse, I expect future adaptations will take at least a page or two from SV's playbook in years to come.non_amos wrote:Think of something else too.
