No shit! If Chris Nolan had gone in to Batman Begins with a similar attitude about Tim Burton, I don't think a lot of people would've been too happy. We understand the need for a reboot and a new interpretation with Batman so what the hell is up with Superman?non_amos wrote:thecolorsblend wrote:For crying out loud, can somebody buy this man a beer already? It sounds like he's giving his all to the role and isn't taking anything for granted. Maybe the movie will be awesome, maybe it'll suck but it sure sounds for all the world like the people involved are giving their best possible effort.
It sure beats Bryan Singer's approach: "I didn't read the comics (don't like comics) but I watched the 1st Donner film. Therefore I'm gonna do a vague sequel"

I love that he clarified his earlier mistake of using "Superman Returns". He meant "Return of Superman".

Re: Henry Cavill Cast As Superman!
Great pic but let me point out something. Even though we've seen the various 'set' pics & such of Cavill without the trunks, in this more 'semi-official(?)' pic, he's once again hunched over in such a way as to obscure the trunk area, just like the 1st 'official' pic we got months ago. Now, I realize he's posing with a child & you could make that argument, that he bent down to his level, just like parents do sometimes when posing with their children. You can make that argument. But he could've likewise stood upright & delivered just as awesome a pic with the kid. So which argument flies in this case? I don't know but I do find it curious. Could there have been a dual purpose here? I think you know what I'm getting at. Just suppose that the trunks are added in post. Maybe they can't control all of the 'leaked' pics but this does seem to be the route they go sometimes when the pic is more official or whatever. Thoughts?

Oh I still wish we had trunks on suit, and still have slime hope for added in post. But at this stage its probably not going to have. Trunks. Which is one element that sucks a bit.

Re: Henry Cavill Cast As Superman!
For me I take it or leave it cause I know at some point the trunks weren't going to be retained and was expecting them to aleast put some red below the belt just to break up the blue since that was the purpose for having trunks in the first place but it seems the designers (Whoever they are) came up with another unique way to break up the blue without any trunks or putting in any red on the suit. With all of this being said, I have no problem rolling with it!

Man of Steel provides "Super" opportunity for Airmen at dining facility
Posted 2/1/2012 Updated 2/1/2012 Email story Print story
by Laura Mowry
Staff Writer
2/1/2012 - EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Actor Henry Cavill took a break from the rigorous shooting schedule for the Warner Brothers film "Man of Steel" to meet with Edwards Airmen, pose for photographs, and sign autographs at the Joshua Tree Dining Facility here Jan. 31.
More than 100 Airmen filled the dining facility from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., where each received an autographed "Man of Steel" lithograph, and had the option of taking a photograph with Cavill.
"It was great that he took the time out of his busy schedule to do something so wonderful for the military," said Senior Airman Lyndee Bennett, 95th Security Forces Squadron. "He was incredibly nice. It's amazing how an event like this humanizes the actors. I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet him."
Airman Bennett, is a fan of the Showtime series, "The Tudors," and recognized Cavill from the show. When the opportunity arose for her to meet the actor, she knew she had to be a part of it.
"I was originally interested in the autograph session because I'm a huge fan of his series 'The Tudors,' the fact that he's filming 'Man of Steel' at Edwards just made the experience that much better," said Bennett.
Cavill, the Man of Steel himself, was more than happy to show his support for the military.
"I have such great respect for military members and what they do," Cavill said . "It's important that they know how valuable their service is. It is a pleasure to tell them how much they're appreciated."
Cavill, who plays Superman in the upcoming film, "Man of Steel," has a strong connection to the military, with two brothers currently serving; one as a tank commander and the other as a Royal Marine.
The autograph session was a unique opportunity for Cavill to give back to service members who stepped up to play critical roles in the "Man of Steel" movie, through their roles as extras or their impressive logistical support.
"It was a really nice gesture on Henry's part to show how much he supports us and what we do," said Staff Sgt. Thomas Roach, 95th Security Forces Squadron. "It was a great morale boost to meet someone famous and get an autograph for my daughter."

Re: Henry Cavill Cast As Superman!
Since apparently being an American is something to be ashamed of in today's society, my hunch is that Snyder would likely avoid the subject entirely. And honestly, if you're not going to recite mantra properly, best to skip it altogether. It worked on Smallville the one time they ever tried it but otherwise if you're not going to do it right, don't bother.Apologist Puncher wrote:Anyone here thinking Snyder is going to throw in a bullshit: "Truth, Justice, All That "Stuff"" line?

So yeah, I'm with you. Snyder will either do it right or he'll have the good sense to skip entirely. Nothing half-ass.

You know who has disappointed me in that regard?
Gerard Butler.
They guy was MASSIVE, but not bulky, in '300' and he let it all go.
I don't get it.

What's up with the skint head on Cavill? I assume then that he's wrapped filming on MOS? But of an even bigger concern to me is why is he 'hugged up' to that dude like that?! Don't tell me that the rumors from a year-plus ago were true?! Say it ain't so! Because just recently, Zachary Quinto of HEROES fame, who also plays Mr. Spock in the STAR TREK reboot, also 'came out':
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2011/10/star-trek-star-zachary-quinto-comes-out-as-gay/
Since this ain't Superman-related I won't post the entire article here but who'da thunk it, right? And this pic of Cavill has me concerned, especially since the other guy looks like he could be. Just sayin'..........
EDIT TO ADD: But we're still waiting forever-and-a-day for BJ the Bartender to make the 'official' announcement. He just keeps throwing us hints in his disastrous films. And I suppose now that I think of it, we're still waiting on the 'not-at-all-gay' Tom Cruise too?

Butler must've lost weight. I recall some time ago seeing a picture of him online on some celebrity site or something where he was on the beach & he looked like a beached whale! Now he looks like he's trying to compete with Christian Bale. Speaking of which, Bale pulls these stunts & it gets annoying. For THE MACHINIST he got so thin it's a wonder he didn't die! Then he bulked up for BATMAN BEGINS. But for TDK he looked like he didn't even make the effort.

Non i see nothing in that cavill photo that would make him look "gay" he looks like how anyone is when they take photos with celebrities or friends just being nice and friendly.

I don't know man. I really hope you're right! We already had Brandon 'BJ' Routhman on the cover of THE ADVOCATE & yet he doesn't confirm anything. I don't want history repeating itself.

Re: Henry Cavill Cast As Superman!
This is obviously not PC to say but here it is anyway. I don't think most people are bothered by homosexuality in and of itself. What I think turns people off (so to speak) is homoeroticism. What's the difference? Well, on the one hand, you've got Singerman. But on the other hand, Smallville had one cast member that was openly out, another cast member about whom rumors swirled (esp in the relatively early days) and several out crew members as well. In one of those adaptations, there's a lot of suggestive imagery. The other adaptation is just a Superman story; nothing more, nothing less. This is unavoidable in Hollywood. To me, it only becomes an issue when the filmmakers try to put something onto the source material that simply doesn't exist. So even if there's something up with Cavill, to me the only time it'd become an issue is if the movie gets the Schumacher or Singer treatment.non_amos wrote:webhead2006 wrote:Non i see nothing in that cavill photo that would make him look "gay" he looks like how anyone is when they take photos with celebrities or friends just being nice and friendly.

Now, to head off any ridiculous PC arguments, some people say things like this shouldn't matter. Well, if they mean the filmmakers should check baggage like this at the door, I agree. But if they mean that things like this shouldn't be a consideration when reviewing the material, yes Apologist, it SHOULD. When we watch Tim Burton's movies, his history of loneliness and alienation as a child is a perfectly valid topic of discussion. When we watch Steven Speilberg's movies, the influence his parents divorce had on him helps put his films into a better context. When we watch Star Wars movies, the rise and "fall" of George Lucas as a Hollywood wunderkind really puts certain lines, characters and plot developments into context. Why, then, is someone preference and the influence that subculture has on them somehow verboten? And why is criticism when that influence is clearly to the material's detriment likewise off-limits?
The fact is that a filmmaker's personal life is rarely left behind. It always manifests itself somehow. That's the nature of art. Sometimes, that manifestation is a detriment to the source material. When people criticize something for "being gay", to me this is what they mean. It's certainly what I mean. I don't care what someone does behind closed doors. Not my business. I simply don't want that to become a negative influence on Superman. For Smallville, it didn't; for Singerman, it did.
Sorry, didn't mean to type so much but this is a nuanced thing.

Re: Henry Cavill Cast As Superman!
Yeah & considering how rumors start & how duh media plays out these things, I wouldn't be surprised to see 'questionable' reviews & such for THE MAN OF STEEL. After Singerman came out ol' BJ was displayed on the cover of THE ADVOCATE with the question, "Is Superman gay?" No ,he's not, even if Blandon turned out to be. But you see how duh media plays on these things? No doubt it'd cause the gay community to embrace the film but just as equally so, 'the Right' & family values & such would condemn the film. I want the film to succeed. You make a good point about SMALLVILLE. They 'checked it at the door' so to speak; Singerman didn't. I don't want any political & PC views & such damaging this film! I guess as long it it's not, we're fine. By the way, which Smallville cast & crew are you talking about? I've probably heard before but I'm drawing a blank right now.

Re: Henry Cavill Cast As Superman!
John Glover is out and has been since sometime in the 70's or 80's, it seems. I'm not an expert on the guy (least of all this aspect of his life) but that was my understanding. Brian Peterson (writer and, later, showrunner) is out too from what I know. Neither of these are major secrets. And, again, based exclusively on how they did their respective jobs, I'd be willing to be tyou couldn't care less because it didn't affect their work. Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen remains inseparable from his obsession with hookers. So you tell me who has a harder time leaving their peccadilloes at the door.non_amos wrote:Yeah & considering how rumors start & how duh media plays out these things, I wouldn't be surprised to see 'questionable' reviews & such for THE MAN OF STEEL. As to the other, the RUMOR is that Kristin Kreuk plays for the home team as well. I don't know how true that is but gay people I know read some interviews she gave circa the series premiere and even as long as a year after where she used evasive language (the pronoun game and all that) and some other "gay code" (what, only Welling can be private about private stuff?). Other remarked upon a joint interview she gave with Allison Mack in 2004 where she only perked up and seemed happy when Allison showed up (what, she can't be shy and nervous in interviews and grateful that a friend joined her?). Is it true? Well, (A) I've never heard of her dating a man (which isn't saying she hasn't, doesn't or currently isn't; just that I've never heard about it, and I'm not exactly a TMZ follower or whatever) and (B) apparently some gay people are making predictions about when she'll finally come clean. For my part, I don't know and don't care.
