Fake 'Batman v Superman' Script Written and Leaked by Kevin Smith?

Warner Bros. commissioned director Kevin Smith to write a fake script, throwing fans off the trailer of what Zack Sndyer is actually doing with 'Dawn of Justice'.

We just received an interesting tip from an anonymous source deep within the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice production. This comes just moments after we posted a story about the introduction of three new, lesser-known heroes in the movie. Badass Digest has gotten their hands on a pdf that claims to be the legitimate shooting script, and in it, there are a number of new secondary characters and locations. This came hot on the heels of Latino Review claiming four new villains were going to appear alongside Lex Luthor. Well, guess what? If we're to believe the email we just got our hands on, not only is the script fake...It was written by Kevin Smith!

Yes, that Kevin Smith. The director of Clerks and Red State. The guy who has been dropping Batman v Superman hints since the film was announced. The same guy who is best friends with Bruce Wayne himself, Ben Affleck.

Kevin Smith wrote the screenplay in conjunction with Warner Bros., with the studio purposely leaking the script to various movie bloggers and sites, helping to throw the scent off what director Zack Snyder was actually attempting to accomplish with Batman v Superman.

The account of events sounds pretty accurate, and lines up with what we've heard before, that Warner Bros. and DC Comics were going to throw a lot of red herrings into the water. Take a look at the letter, and decide for yourself if this news is true:

This isn't a scoop regarding the plot or the details of the Batman v Superman movie or am I writing you in order to spoil or disappoint the general public.

My insider info regards a who has been the source of the vast majority of leaked information as regards to the movie and more importantly why.

Up until last year I worked for as a PA for a Warner Bros. exec until I was promoted to marketing. It was here I and several others where approached to work, directly and indirectly, for Susanne Knoll and sometimes Deborah Snyder.

It was here that I became a part of a particular strategy that Warner Bros has been using to great effect.

Early this year a Screenplay for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which was commissioned by Warner Bros was leaked to several gossip sites. It was a scanned PDF of the entire screenplay baring a official Warner Bros watermark.

This script has been the source of almost every leaked detail about the movie for the last six months. It has been posted on sites then quickly removed due to cease and desist letters from Warner Bros.

While the screenplay is legit and the watermark is legit and it is was commissioned by Charles Roven himself...

But it is written by neither David S. Goyer or Chris Terrio.

It was written by Kevin Smith.

Late last year both Charles Roven and Zack Snyder approached Kevin Smith with a early treatment for the film and It was Kevin Smith who came up with the idea to write an entire screenplay based on it but with several huge red herrings and changes which do not appear in the final film. These include plot points and characters etc etc. and 'leak' it online.

This script was distributed by myself and others to gossip sites and movie sites like aintitcool, latino review, movie pilot, etc etc

My job was to pose as a worker at Warner Bros who was leaking the screenplay.

There were several others involved who posed as recently fired members of the production, interns and special effects artists and we all spread the misleading info around the web.

None of this was done maliciously and was a strategy to misdirect much of sites that intended to spoil the film.

So nothing we've heard, except information in official press releases, has been true about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice leading up to this point in time. What do you make of this new information? Do you love or hate Kevin Smith more now? And you think this strategy worked?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes to theaters May 6th, 2016 and stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

I have a question. The person who supposedly wrote this letter, is English their first language? I found it to be a pain to read through that phrasing that sounded like many an apologist. And why would Kevin Smith do this anyway? Is everything we've read a lie?

I am skeptical of just how much disinformation has been released. Seems counterproductive to piss off too many fans this early in the process. Sure you are 2 years away from the release and want to provide some news for those clamoring for any tidbit, but to purposely screw with the fanbase just because you can seems odd to me.

It would depend. If the scoops and rumors and shit come from unnamed "sources" and fans are advised to be skeptical... honestly, I have no problem with that. I wish we could go back to an era before all this shit was posted online and ruined years ahead of time.

But some people are interpreting this (for whatever reason) that WB has knowingly released bullshit information through official sources. #1 that's completely impossible but #2 even if it is possible (which it isn't), the fans would riot and rightly so. Movie studios shouldn't lie to the world. It's one thing to post bullshit rumors and spoiler reports online to throw everybody off the trail and hopefully drown out the real information that will inevitably get posted online anyway but to knowingly mislead people by releasing LIES in press releases and other shit... I'm sorry but that's WAY over the line.

So what we can take from this is that if WB has put their name on something, if it's popped up in official trades like Variety or whatever else, it's reliable. But the rumored guest stars, guest villains, plot points and other shit may very well be contrived.

Or... maybe WB is just taking control of BS info out there. They have some unnamed intern post online that, yep, WB secretly put out bullshit information so that we'll be skeptical about everything. The lie isn't the rumors floating around. The lie is this report saying WB is secretly releasing disinformation. And honestly, this is my hunch. What better way to play with peoples' heads is there than to suggest that 90% of the leaks and spoiler reports and other shit were invented out of whole cloth by the studio? It'd put everybody on guard. The truth isn't out there. Trust no one. You are alone.

I actually think this is true. I know some people are doubting it, thinking Kevin Smith wouldn't have the time to write a fake script. And I ask: If he KNOWS it's a fake, why would it take him much time at all to bang one out?

With so many stories coming out about this movie, especially from Latino "BJ Routh Should Be Swooperman Again!!" Review, and being filled with obscure or head-scratching character choices, it lends credence to the fake script story. Why in the blue FUCK would Snyder and Goyer put Zsasz in another Batman film so soon?? No Metallo? Then who would Superman have ANY trouble taking down alone, let alone needing Batman and Wonder Woman's help??

I think some sites got duped. And I'm glad Latino review is the main culprit. Fuck those pricks.

He's a Batman villain/murderer who cuts a mark into his skin every time he kills someone. You saw him in 'Batman Begins' at the trial, then during the Arkham breakout:

He's the guy Batman saved Rachel and the kid from.

Here he is in the comics:

I think his first appearance was in The Last Arkham, the opening storyline from Batman- Shadows of the Bat from the early/mid 90's. It was basically a kinda sorta but not really vanity book for Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle to do their version of Batman without necessarily having to tie in with the ongoing continuity in the mainstream books. That philosophy didn't last long because Knightfall came shortly thereafter. But SOTB's big legacy is that it was a book driven more by Batman's psychology and whatnot than high flying superheroic stuff.

In fact, that very philosophy confused the fuck out of me when I was a kid because you had Kelley Jones ("the Sandman guy") drawing his over-the-top gothic stuff in the main Batman monthly title doing this really kinetic adventure stuff and then you had Barry Kitson (one of the most typical superhero illustrators of his already impressive generation) doing this incredibly introspective and psychological stuff. Talk about a mismatch!

But anyway. Zsasz. I questioned this rumor (A) because Goyer tossed him into Begins already and (B) it's interesting, isn't it, how those villains seem to be non-powered villains that only fanboys would probably get a charge out of?

I've definitely seen Batman Begins although it's been some time now. I remember Rachel & the kid but I guess this dude went right over my head. I guess though that a villain created in the 90's I wouldn't get anyway unless it was Doomsday or Bane.

He was on trial when Dr. Crane was testifying.

Only if you think it's necessary. My point is just that I don't see David Goyer, Zack Snyder AND David Terrio using Zsasz AGAIN so soon.

And for what it's worth, they've been showing 'Begins" on HBO a lot lately....

Of Bats And Walruses – Kevin Smith Answers Fake Batman V Superman Script Rumors
Posted on July 8, 2014 by Dan Wickline

Over on his blog, Kevin Smith address the rumors going around that he penned a fake Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice script for Warner Bros. In doing so he also catches folks up on what he’s been doing lately.

There’ve been a few movie websites reporting I might’ve been involved in a BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE misinformation campaign, at the behest of Warner Brothers, director Zack Snyder and producer Chuck Roven. The idea was that everything I’ve ever said about the forthcoming big screen team-up of the World’s Finest is a carefully constructed web of intrigue to throw movie sites off the real track.

Since last year at this time, I’ve been enjoying an unexpected period of prolificacy with screenplays. It all started with CLERKS III and was followed by me finishing nearly 5 scripts in a year, including the fall release TUSK. After TUSK, I penned ANTI-CLAUS (formerly COMES THE KRAMPUS) and a sitcom pilot that’s now seeing some action (both co-written with Professor Andy McElfresh from the EDUMACATION podcast). Then I wrote YOGA HOSERS and now I’m in the middle of MOOSE JAWS.

However, none of those has been a fake BATS v SUPES script. C’mon, kids… No major studio would let a guy like me near their franchises – even if it was for a dummy script meant solely to fool the news sites. (Don’t know if it’s true or not, but this Twitter user is claiming creditfor a fugazi script that’s currently being reviewed online.)

No, anything I’ve said about “Milo and Sage” was based on an image Zack showed me while hosting a MAN OF STEEL online event at Yahoo many months back. The little I know of the flick beyond that I learned from some cats involved (though never BatFleck himself; as I’ve said a few times now on the Babble-On podcast, beyond email, I haven’t spoken to Ben in years). Fun story, though.

While you’re here, however? That script for TUSK that I wrote? We turned into an actual movie that’s coming out this fall from A24. Oddly enough, it’s the best film I’ve ever made (or at the very least, the most interesting). Thank you all for saying #WalrusYes on Twitter last year. Can’t wait to show you the movie. In the meantime, here’s the poster…
