Batman vs. Superman Movie to Start Shooting at East L.A. College Stadium
Saturday shoot will take place during halftime — and feature Gotham City vs. Metropolis State
The D.C. cinematic universe is going back to the gridiron.
Though the wave of Batfleck outrage has barely crested, Warner Bros. will get the cameras rolling Saturday for its upcoming Batman-vs.-Superman movie, shooting B-roll at the football stadium of East Los Angeles College.
he school’s roughly 10,000-seat Weingart Stadium (pictured above), situated about seven miles east of downtown, will be transformed into the home of Gotham City University during the brief halftime shoot, school officials confirmed to TheWrap.
Their cinematic visitors: Metropolis State University.
The shoot will take place at the midpoint of the ELAC Huskys’ scheduled tilt against Victor Valley College, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased only at the gate on game-day, though a large section has been blocked off for students of the 36,000-student community college known for its strong nursing program.
According to the East Los Angeles College Campus News, which first revealed the shoot last week (hat tip to the eagle eyes at Latino Review), Warner Bros. issued a call for people in the L.A. area – with a preference for ELAC students – to be extras. The first 2,000 fans who sit in the filming area will get a T-shirt designed by director Zack Snyder; other prizes will be raffled throughout the night.
The crowd will sport Gotham City’s colors — black and gold – which is also the color of the fictional city’s pro team, as seen in “The Dark Knight Rises.” That team was played by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The shoot is scheduled for 20 minutes, with three takes of three plays and crowd reactions.
It wasn’t clear whether stars Ben Affleck or Henry Cavill would be anywhere near the scene; school officials who spoke to TheWrap were bound by nondisclosure agreements and Warner Bros. did not divulge details.

52, huh?
Ah well, at least this counts as news. Pretty big news, in fact.

And over at SHH I've already seen the reaction to this compared to THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, i.e., "Gee, where have I seen a football game in a Batman film before?" As in one of the very first comments. But maybe that person actually has a point? Should Snyder have gone in this direction? Nothing wrong with football, mind you, but I'm not necessarily looking forward to the endless comparisons by duh Nolanites.

I've not kept up with what the Nolanites have said ever since TDKRises farted out of theaters but my impression is that most of 'em have gone into hibernation and mostly save their barbs and caustic remarks for Marvel movies. Guess the penile envy over Avengers box office run will never go away. But the football thing hadn't occurred to me. Until now, that is.
But as for it being football... ugh. Yeah, I realize that football long ago replaced baseball as America's pastime but I fucking hate football so much that there are no words for it. To the degree I like sports at all, I'm a hockey guy and thought it might be kinda fun if that sport got some love in one of these superhero films. That's for another day, I suppose.

Here's something to consider, as ANOTHER Nolan failure with "Rises":
He could have had the opposing team in his film be from Metropolis, and not freakin` RAPID CITY. Just as a nod to the characters comic book roots.
Anyway, having football show up at some point is no big deal. It's not going to be a major set piece like in "Rises", probably not much more than a background scene or shown on TV.

Yeah, on Facebook they're asking if Bane is gonna show up. Or should I say Hardly Bane? More than likely it won't have any ramifications like that. Probably will be filler. But in the event we're wrong then maybe Superman will fly over or something to 'ooo's & ahhhs'. Just don't channel Singerman & have him straining to catch a plane or something.

Pfah, as if that was ever on the table. I read that same suggestion on some other page, except it was for Coast City. But same basic idea. In a world where only filmmakers who respect comics would make movies based on comics, this is precisely what would've happened... and was therefore out of the question for TDKRises.Apologist Puncher wrote:Here's something to consider, as ANOTHER Nolan failure with "Rises":

Part of me thinks it would be kinda cool if Snyder had Superman catch a plane in the field just to spike the football (so to speak) one more time and, in so doing, show Bryan Singer how that type of sequence is meant to be done. Because, let's face it, Snyder would rock that type of sequence.non_amos wrote:Yeah, on Facebook they're asking if Bane is gonna show up. Or should I say Hardly Bane? Best of all, if anybody got defensive about it, he could just say in interviews "Yeah, I thought it might be kinda cool to pay a little bit of tribute to what's come before *wink* so I don't understand what people are upset over *wink wink*."
