Filming has been happening for more than a week but now Marvel has made it official and also released the first photo from “Iron Man 3.”

Following in the footsteps of the record-breaking Marvel Studios’ release “Marvel’s The Avengers,” production on the highly anticipated film “Iron Man 3,” directed by Shane Black,has commenced production in Wilmington,North Carolina. The production schedule will also include locations in Raleigh/Durham,North Carolina,Miami,Florida and China.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series,first published in 1963, “Iron Man 3” returns Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man,” “Marvel’s The Avengers”) as the iconic Super Hero character Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Gwyneth Paltrow (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,”) as Pepper Potts,Don Cheadle (“Iron Man 2”) as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”) as Happy Hogan. Set for release in the U.S. on May 3, 2013,Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” marks the second feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney,which acquired Marvel in 2009.

A.I.M. Terrorist Group To Appear In IRON MAN 3?

UPDATE #2: A recent photo from the set of Iron Man 3 has seemingly revealed that the infamous terrorist organization from the comics,Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M),will have a role! DCMarvelFreshman - 6/4/2012

It appears the infamous terrorist organization A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics), from the Marvel Comics Universe, will finally have a role in Marvel's cinematic universe through the next much-anticipated installment, Shane Black's Iron Man 3. Spotted on the set today, via Tumblr's HannibalDelarge, the "A.I.M" signage was among props installed to the set in Cary, North Carolina at Epic Games Studios. Check out the photo below!

UPDATE: On Location Vacation has more photos and the scoop on what today's filming consisted of.

"One of our readers, A. K. Trujillo, told us, “The crowd was told to be quiet when shots were filmed outside, or else they would heighten security and ban spectators from watching. [There were] no big action scenes. All actors were in business suits or security uniforms. The director was heard yelling, “Action”, “Turn, Turn, Turn, Turn” and “Cut”.” Though the photos were taken from a distance, you can see a few extras in uniform and a decorated tree that indicates the scene is set during the holidays.

EXCLUSIVE! Iron Patriot is NOT in ‘Iron Man 3′

We happened to find this out a good 2 hours after we jumped on the Iron Patriot bandwagon and reported it, but I had to sit on it and watch people endlessly report “Iron Patriot” news.

It wasn’t until we finally got a look at Don Cheadle on set that we here at Latino-Review can clear something up for you:

That armor you’ve been seeing? That’s not Iron Patriot, that’s War Machine and this is all based on a “hey that white guy must be James Badge Dale” mistake made by a photo service or a gossip site (hard to trace back).

It’s not a movie star, it’s just a white guy. A very nice stunt man who allowed Don Cheadle to not be on set that day. The scene they were filming had Tony Stark and a bunch of military folks, so it makes total sense that this is the moment they debut the new War Machine armor.

We’re getting this from someone on set who says what we’re all calling “Iron Patriot” is Don Cheadle’s new armor. For purposes of clarity, I’ll still be calling it War Machine, even if the movie decides to call him “Iron Patriot” The US Government has had their hands on this Stark suit for awhile, and apparently they’ve decided to make it more patriotic (especially with the nano-technology stuff I hear is going down in China these days, it’s important for America to look good, not like ‘Iron Man 2′s’ bulky grey War Machine).

That’s why the set photo of “Iron Patriot” has the War Machine gun on his back, because it’s NOT Iron Patriot, it’s NOT James Badge Dale, it’s NOT Coldblood-7.

The scene they were shooting at the airport in North Carolina (where we once again nabbed some spy photos of the new armor) involves the Vice President and a flight to China. Since the world is a world of super-humans post Avengers, who better to guard the Veep than America’s most expensive armor?

That explains how we also got our first look at Don Cheadle on set on the same day.

It’s ‘Iron Man 3′ there’s gonna be tons of new armor stuff, that’s what ‘Iron Man’ movies do. If “piling way too many villains” is something you think they also do, I hope this eases your fears a little. Yeah, we still have Guy Pearce and The Mandarin infecting soldiers with Extremis. But there is no Iron Patriot/Coldblood hybrid villain, that’s just FALSE.

I also liked how well Jeff Bridges inter-acted with them two in the first film even though he was really a devil. I especially like that crucial scene where 'Obadiah' comes in & catches 'Pepper' at the computer. It's a wonder he didn't just storm in & take her out but instead he played the whole 'coy' thing. A very cool scene & well played. It would've been nice if he could've been brought back for sequels.

Agreed. It kinda reminds you of how well Christopher Reeve & Margot Kidder clicked onscreen. Or even Dean Cain & Terri Hatcher. Great casting. Definitely not like BJ & the Five-Head!

Seriously. Those two had no spark. None. You could argue that a director needs to cast the actor he thinks best for the role... but, speaking as something other than a director, I think there's a lot to be said for factoring in how well actors play off each other. BJ and Fivehead? Even in scenes where they should've been getting along and working together, there was just nothing there. Shit, I never even thought of it until just now but it kinda reminds me now of watching high schoolers do a play. It's all about remembering lines, hitting marks, reacting to cues but there's no POP most of the time. And that's how it was with the androgynous twins in Singerman.

I also liked how well Jeff Bridges inter-acted with them two in the first film even though he was really a devil. No kidding! Bridges is pretty much what put Iron Man over the top for me. You subtract his performance from the movie and, yeah, I'd have walked out liking what I'd just seen but you throw Bridges back in there and he takes the movie to that next level. Favreau knew the score when he cast Bridges. Downey was great, Paltrow was great, but Bridges was the movie's secret weapon as far as I'm concerned.

IRON MAN 3 Action To Unfold At Hollywood Landmark; 'Love Triangle' Subplot To Ensue?

In addition to details for an upcoming shoot,involving action and a Hollywood landmark,details for a shoot that has already occured may hint a potential 'love triangle' in Iron Man 3. DCMarvelFreshman - 6/13/2012

Potential spoilers surrounding the production of Iron Man 3 should come as no surprise, especially with nearly a month of filming completed. And as it progresses, anonymous tipsters have shared with us details for an action scene that'll be shot this week, along with a scene already shot hinting at the inevitable "romance" in the movie.

One tipster says that the production crew of Iron Man 3 have built- recreated the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard over at the National Gypsum in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the bulk of filming takes place. The tispster goes on to say the scenes will involve combat of some sorts, with the extras in the scene being tourists; some costumed as "injured tourists". This night shoot will undergo Thursday & Friday.

A permit for this very shoot was issued to Wilmington last week, where it states that three actors will be present, along with 91 extras. Adding legitimacy to the tipster's claim, the permit also vaguely declared that the shoot will include "exterior building scenes involving special effects and stunts."

In regards to the potential 'love triangle,' or rectangle even, another tipster offers that Pepper Potts actress Gwyneth Paltrow recently shot a rather romantic scene with villain Aldrich Killian actor Guy Pearce. As showcased in The Avengers, Tony Stark and Pepper are in a "committed" relationship. So, will things getting rocky between them be considered a subplot to the anticipated threequel? Let's not forgot that The Town actress Rebecca Hall is playing a "sexy scientist," likely Maya Hansen in the film. A love rectangle perhaps?

Andy Lau Reportedly Turns Down IRON MAN 3 Role

It appears Chinese Internal Affairs actor Andy Lau has turned down his scientist role in Iron Man 3. Including his potential replacements,check out comments from one of the producers. DCMarvelFreshman - 6/22/2012

Last month, it was revealed that Chinese actor Andy Lau was keen on landing a role in the much-anticipated Shane Black-directed Iron Man 3 movie. However, Want Chinese Times via Want Daily now claim the Internal Affairs actor has turned down the pivotal scientist role, which is said to be an ally of playboy Tony Stark. Dotting on the reason(s) for Lau's departure, and who's being considered for his replacement, check out the reports.

Chinese media now report that Lau has pulled out of possible involvement due to the birth of his first child with wife Carol Chu on May 9. The Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post reported that the producers of the film had contacted Lau but were turned down. The frontrunners for the role are now said to be Chinese actors Chen Daoming and Wu Xiubo. One of the film's producers and CEO of DMG Entertainment Group Dan Mintz apparently told reporters earlier this week that the one of the movie's Chinese characters will likely be filled by an actor over the age of 40 and strong English skills.

In regards to the selection of Asian actors for the film, and being co-produced by a Chinese production company, Mintz added that the idea arose from the film's plot, not the other way around. The producer insisted that the film's stars will be chosen for their suitability for the role, rather than their impact on the Chinese box office.

Around the time Iron Man 3 began filming, The Shawshank Redemption actor William Sadler was reportedly spotted on the Wilmington, NC set for a costume fitting. And while we've yet to receive confirmation of that, the questionable, yet occasional reliable, Internet Movie Database may have disclosed his role.

According to IMDB, William Sadler will be portraying Dr. Sal Kennedy in the highly-anticipated Shane Black-directed Iron Man installment. First appearing in The Invincible Iron Man #2, via Marvel Comics Database, Sal Kennedy was a longtime friend of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall).

The trio met at an emergent technolgy conference when Tony was in his early twenties. Sal Kennedy is often sought out by Tony aka Ironman for advice and guidance, aiding him through several crises. The attacked that killed Sall was later revealed to have been arranged by the Mandarin.

Sal Kennedy also appeared in Warren Ellis' Extremis story arc, in which Iron Man 3 is said to be "loosely" based on. However, it's still possible William Sadler won't be portraying Kennedy at all. What do you think?

UPDATE: According to The Playlist' recent Podcast, Sadler will actually play a General in the film, who interacts with Don Cheadle's Col. James Rhodes. The podcast also touches on the potential post-credits scene, among other things. With a possible spoiler warning, read a transcription below with a load of salt!

S.H.I.E.L.D. still has a presence in the film, despite producers saying the story is completely standalone. In regards to how much of a presence they'll have, Marvel is apparently aiming for a similar relationship Agent Phil Coulson had with Iron Man in the first film. Maria Hill will be the connective tissue this time around.

Chinese actor Andy Lau's (who recently dropped out) role is apparently a "very different version of Radioactive Man in the comics." And while he's expected to pop up in future MCU films, he may appear in the post-credits scene. And that will involve him coming face-to-face with a version of Ant-Man.

Edgar Wright will possibly be shooting Iron Man 3's post-credits scene essentially introducing Ant-Man. This may back of Wright stating he was hoping to shoot some of the movie this year.

Anyhow, filming for Iron Man 3 is still well underway in Wilmington, NC. And the crew was apparently spotted earlier today. In addition to Malibu, Miami and China, will Boston, MA also be a setting in the film?
