Even Singer Doesn't Like BJ!
WOW!
Digital Spy wrote:"If I'm really honest, what I probably would have done is go back and retell the origin story with someone like Nicholas Hoult [playing Clark Kent/Superman]," he said.
"I would have done it differently from Richard Donner's original, which I love, but instead of doing a sequel I'd have started from the beginning - maybe I had that in the back of my mind and instead translated it to X-Men: First Class!"

RE: Even Singer Doesn't Like BJ!
I don't know anything about this Nicholas Hoult but just looking at his pic, the dude looks like he's Singer's 'type' if ya know what I mean? But I guess Singer's continuing with his 'idea' in X_Men: Charles & Eric, A LOVE Story.

Clearly. Will check the Younis page in a bit to see if this lovely little quote has appeared there yet... and if it has, what the Apologists think. It'll be great!

The guy has no loyalty whatsoever. But I do have to say, with the Apologists NOW blaming him for how horrid Singerman was, and for BJ's lack of a career, I LOVE that he has taken a shot back at them.
Fuck 'em BOTH though.

Re: Even Singer Doesn't Like BJ!
Funny how Singer thought doing a reboot was the way to go and yet haven't thought of this when he was doing "Superman Returns" but I guess the results from the film probably give him the realization that he screwed up and should have done what I assume the executives of Warner Bros. had been advising him to do in the first place and that is start over!
On a lighter note, aleast this may show that he learns his lesson! Now if only he can apologise for it!

Re: Even Singer Doesn't Like BJ!
If he's TRULY honest, he would've stayed and finished out the X-Men movies instead of jumping ship and letting Brett bleeping Ratner slip in there. Despite the inital backlash against his scriptment, after seeing how J.J. Abrams did with Star Trek, we would've been better off if WB had taken a chance on Abrams and let him direct the Superman film. Or shit, even Matthew Vaughn, Mark Millar's "American action director" would've been good. Then we would've had a good third X-Men movie (or at least, better than The Last Stand) and a Superman reboot, and we'd be waiting for the END of the Superman trilogy right now instead of a fresh beginning.thecolorsblend wrote:WOW!Digital Spy wrote:"If I'm really honest, what I probably would have done is go back and retell the origin story with someone like Nicholas Hoult [playing Clark Kent/Superman]," he said.

Totally agree.
Having read Abrams superman script recently, it would have made for a badass action movie. Now we have to wait over a year for this reboot to come out, when a proper one could've been made in 2006.

Everyone's favorite eunuch finally picked up the story. Better late than never, I guess.

And no, Singer didn't win any new fans at the Eunuch page with his comments.

I don't know about his recent efforts but I do recall 'back in the day' of the initial Singerman controversy, if memory serves me correctly, I do seem to remember he/she/it being the typical apologist. I'm sure nothing's changed but I could be wrong.

Sorry for the Italian subtitles but the regular version looked like bootleg crap.
Birds of a feather indeed!
EDIT TO ADD: Here 'BJ' plays 'Bobby Long'. What's that supposed to be, his screen name when he has to resort to gay porn? Ruth gotta eat! In more ways than one apparently.

Crooked Arrows
Critic Rating: 1 out of 5 stars
Just too much
By Michael O'Sullivan
Friday, May 18, 2012
The high-school sports drama “Crooked Arrows” has two -- but only two -- original selling points: Its protagonists are Native Americans and the sport in question is lacrosse.
That’s something you don’t see every day.
Other than that, however, the film’s moves are taken straight out of “The Bad News Bears” playbook.
Roster of struggling but plucky players? Check. Troubled and reluctant coach seeking redemption? Check. Arrogant arch rivals seeking comeuppance? Climactic, high-stakes game? Inspirational message about the power of believing in yourself?
Check, check and check.
Making matters worse, the film suffers from acting that ranges from the amateurish to the only average. At the high end of the scale is Brandon Routh (who also is listed as one of the film’s executive producers). The washed-up “Superman Returns” star is blandly passable as the mixed-blood Joe Logan, a former high-school lacrosse hotshot turned real estate developer and manager of his reservation’s casino. When Joe’s unscrupulous boss (Tom Kemp) wants more land to expand the casino, Joe is forced to take on a coaching gig before his tribal council will consider him worthy of being granted the contract.
At the low end of the acting scale are a number of minor players (including Kemp) who seem to have been plucked from the production company’s accounting department instead of Central Casting. To call the acting stiff is an understatement.
Somewhere in between are the fresh-faced performers who make up the Crooked Arrows, the mostly Native American student-athletes whose fortunes the film follows and around whose rivalry with a squad of preppy white boys the story revolves. Chances are you’ve never heard of Tyler Hill or Aaron Printup, who portray two of the more prominent Crooked Arrows. But chances are you’ll also never hear from them again.
There are no breakout performances, and what star power the film is able to muster is low-wattage, indeed.
The lacrosse angle aside, “Crooked Arrows” seems less interested in breaking ground than in following a path that has been trod a thousand times before.
Contains some suggestive language and a flash of locker-room derriere.
Bland. Again.
Anyone surprised?

Since I've been "reminded" of BJ Routh's existence lately, I thought it would be funny to see that everythign we say about this talentless 2X4 is TRUE:

Crooked Arrows: Film Review
Directed by Steve Rash, the film stars Brandon Routh as a part-Native American businessman who returns to his Indian reservation to coach high school lacrosse, as he struggles to reconcile his past and his present.
Sports movie and Native American tropes are freely intermingled in Crooked Arrows, a would-be inspirational drama chiefly memorable for providing a fresh ethnic variation on a tired genre. Predictable from first moment to last, it does at least provide a showcase for lacrosse, a sport heretofore cinematically unexploited.
In this film partly financed by the Onandaga Nation, Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) plays the central role of Joe Logan, a part Native-American who has largely forgotten his roots to become a big shot businessman desperate to build a massive casino on tribal ground.
In the sort of clichéd plot development that’s apparently taught in Screenwriting 101, former sports star Joe is forced by the reservation to accept the condition that he coach their high-school lacrosse team and help bring them to victory against the boorish white preppies with whom they’re competing.
Will Joe give up his designer duds and fancy sports car to reconnect with his ancestral heritage? Will he strike up sparks with his former high school girlfriend (Crystal Allen) who has devoted herself to teaching school on the reservation? Will he restore his sell-out reputation in the community? Will he forge a new closeness with his widowed father (Gil Birmingham) and spunky kid sister (Chelsea Ricketts) who plays for the team? Will the team of ragtag underdogs get it together under his tutelage?
The answers, not surprisingly, are yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.
The screenplay’s groaningly predictable plot elements are somewhat alleviated by the spirited lacrosse action well handled by director Steve Rash. Unfortunately, the frequent introduction of quasi-spiritual mumbo jumbo—there’s much made of a bald eagle who apparently represents the spirit of Joe’s dead mother—repeatedly bogs down the action.
The perpetually bland Routh--who is actually part Native American--somehow manages to be utterly unconvincing in his mixed-race role. He does, however, frequently doff his shirt to showcase his chiseled torso, which will provide compensation for some viewers.
As if to reinforce the fact that the film seems to spring from decades past, there’s a spirited montage set to one-hit wonder Chumbawamba’s peppy “Tubthumping.” Score one for nostalgia.

Re: Even Singer Doesn't Like BJ!
I don't begrudge the guy making a living. What torques me off to this very day is this ongoing perception that Routh was the single strong link in Singerman. And this comes even from Superman fans I respect. "Singer just didn't know how to direct someone of [Blandon]'s immense talents." But the fuckin guy is the exact same in every single role he plays. For everything Bryan Singer is and isn't, he's gotten some good performances out of actors. I have to give him that much. Same thing goes for Kevin Smith, Edgar Wright, Kevin Munroe and others. His co-star's often give decent enough performances (at the very least) even in movies that would've been shitty with or without Routh's participation. But he's always the same ol' plank of wood each time out.non_amos wrote:Expect this to perform just like his other duds. I mean, ain't it apparent by now that this guy ain't De Niro? Sooner or later, you have to conclude that it's not a problem with the director, the script or anything else. It's the actor in question.
Part of me wants to compare him to Steve Guttenberg but at least Guttenberg had a convincing and chilling turn as a real scumbag on Veronica Mars... and it was during that show's arguably weakest season. So if even Guttenberg can rise above the material, again I ask what is Routh's excuse?

Honestly, I think he's kind of like the kid with Autism in a family of redneck cannibals. They're offensive. Evil. And a crime against humanity. But that kid with Autism, who sat in the corner pulling his pud and naming his toes? He gets the "Awww, we can't take it out on HIM! He didn't know any better!".
Yeah, like that.
