Just read that article. Based on the comments on that site, Jonathan Kent seems to be the most popular choice that fans are speculating about. Some suggested Jor-El or Lex Luthor. I doubt it'd be Luthor but I could see either of the other two possibilities.

Problem though. We know Jor-El will die if he's even in the film, but will it really be necessary to kill off Jonathan Kent?! Please, folks, you really wanna do something different this time around?! How about keeping the Kents ALIVE then for a change?! Like John Byrne did & also Lois & Clark! Smallville appeared to be going that route until that train wreck SINGERMAN interfered! Then John Schneider got the axe! So keep the Kents alive! And how about not having them extremely old & decrepit for a change?! Ya know one thing that was really 'irking' a few years ago? We had Martha Kent in Singerman portrayed as 'one foot in the grave & the other foot on a banana peel'! On Smallville we had the much younger Annette O'Toole! If the kents are in film I def want them alive and well while clark is an adult and superman for while. Then maybe do something with one of them dying in a sequel. That was one aspect I liked in lois and clark with kents alive. And we got to see clark be with his family and that dynamic there. If he isn't kent, perry would be a solid choice to see him tackle. Though I did just read up on costner he doesn't like to do sequels/haven't done sequels to any of his films. So if they went for a role like perry/jonahthan kent(no death) would he return for sequel?

So, major props to our Melissa Molina for accurately forecasting the role. And FINALLY a Kevin Costner movie I'm interested in seeing. That's right, I thought "Company Men" was too white-to-blue-collar whiny.

Because we know what's under the white collar: Blue spandex.

It's funny, I see that Snyder seems to be running with the idea of younger Kent parents. Although SV hardly invented the concept, they sure have popularized it. One wonders if that's where Snyder got his inspiration for Costner. I do see similarities in type between Costner and Schneider. Hmm.

News seems like it broke about a half hour ago and yet nary a peep over on the Younis page. Maybe chasing away half of his staff wasn't such a good idea... And I should mention that I know beyond any shadow of a doubt that at least one current staffer has heard the news but, wouldn't ya know, he doesn't have posting rights on the page yet.

Mind you, I think we all know that the Younis page troglodytes are liable to say about this news anyway so maybe it doesn't matter in the end.

It seems good to have a Ma & Pa Kent who ain't so ancient that they have one foot in the grave & the other foot on a banana peel! This move mirrors Smallville moreso than it does the Donner film. However, we know that Smallville killed off Jonathan Kent to appease Bryan Singer & that Singerman crap-fest! Puh-leazzzzeeee! For once, let the Kents live, both of 'em, not just Martha. Like it was in Lois & Clark Remember, Snyder, reboot! And when John Byrne 'rebooted', he let the Kents live! And besides, who wants Costner in just the first few minutes of the film like Glenn Ford was?! What sense would that make?!

I did indeed, and I will be.

Updated materials and maybe some "snazzy" seams and such, but it will be the Superman suit we all WANT to see.

Woot glad to see he has indeed joined the cast. Can't wait to see what kevin and diane are as the kents. Also I agree I hopw nolans/snyder decide to keep the kents alive for film. If any are to die hold it off for a sequel.

What sense would it make to cast an actor like Marlon Brando as Jor-El, only to have him killed by, what, the 15 minute mark? Smile

Mind you, I'm not saying the Kents should die. In fact, I'd prefer they stay alive too. Partly that's because I love the Byrne Age version and partly it's because I'm sick of Donner's concept of only killing Jonathan.

But mostly I want both Kent parents to live because DC killed Jonathan just a couple of years ago just to be in line with the movie continuity and I'd love to see them squirm at trying to line their piece of shit Sucky Origin-based Superman up with the reboot. Good luck, you miserable fucks! You're gonna need it!

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Kevin Costner will play Jonathan Kent, the father who raised Clark Kent as his own son, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder.

Snyder stated, “Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest super hero of all time.”

Costner will star alongside Diane Lane, who plays his wife, Martha, and the film’s star, Henry Cavill, who will play the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Costner most recently starred in 2010’s “The Company Men,” and is currently in development on the comedy “The One.” He has won two Academy Awards®, for producing and directing the epic “Dances with Wolves,” also garnering a nomination for Best Actor. He has also starred in a wide range of memorable films, including “The Untouchables,” “No Way Out,” “Bull Durham,” “Field of Dreams,” “JFK,” “The Bodyguard,” “Wyatt Earp,” “Tin Cup” and “Swing Vote,” to name a few.

I'm coming back to this. This is an AWESOME casting choice. I can COMPLETELY envision Kevin Costner doing the role proud. Seems like he'll be from the John Schneider school of Jonathan Kents more than Glenn Ford, and that suits me just FINE. (A) That's entirely justifiable from VAST precedent set up by the comics and (B) a doddering Kent couple has been done and I think it'll be good for the Apologists to see, y'know, something other than STM and the Singer movie versions of the Kents. For once.

Hell, you look back on a lot of Costner's more recent films and you kind of have to wonder just how much "acting" the guy's really even going to have to do. He's played an approximate Jonathan "type" in other films. If he can do the job there, there's just no reason to question his abilities with Snyder's Superman.

This is one casting decision I have absolutely no hesitation in putting my stamp of approval on. GREAT choice!

Fucktards, to be more precise. Robin Hood was great, vintage Christian Slater acting like a brat, vintage Alan Rickman acting like an icy cold badass, what's not to like? Cool movie.

As for the bad grammar, that's true of so many movies. Kill Bill used the word "entropy" when, as far as I know, "atrophy" was the correct word. You hear improper usage of "so-and-so and I" in movies and shows all the time ("Bob met with Jim and I" is incorrect; it should be "Bob met with Jim and ME". Also correct would be "Jim and I met with Bob."). (A) It's unspeakably common and (B) an actor is paid to say his line, STFU and go home. He's not an editor.

No matter how you care to slice it, the Apologists are just WRONG... but I suspect you knew that already.

EDIT- And didn't Jared Loughner go apeshit over grammar? Is that who these motherfuckers are?

'Hatfields & McCoys' is a ratings record-setter

In the feud between the Hatfields and McCoys, the History channel proved the winner.

A miniseries about the warring families set basic cable viewing records, according to Nielsen Co. figures the channel released Thursday.

The three nights of "Hatfields & McCoys" were the top-rated entertainment telecasts ever for ad-supported basic cable, History said.

Wednesday's finale of "Hatfields & McCoys" was the most-watched of the three nights, with 14.3 million viewers. According to the History channel, that makes it the No. 1 non-sports and non-news program ever on ad-supported cable.

Parts one and two of the star-filled drama were right behind with 13.9 million and 13.1 million viewers, respectively.

Besides Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton, the miniseries' cast included Tom Berenger, Mare Winningham and Powers Boothe.

The previous top-rated basic cable entertainment program was TNT's 2001 Western drama, "Crossfire Trail," starring Tom Selleck and based on the Louis L'Amour novel.

"Hatfields & McCoys" starred Costner and Paxton as the patriarchs of the West Virginia and Kentucky clans whose violent clashes had roots in the American Civil War. The miniseries is to be released on Blu-ray and DVD July 31.
