10.13, Beacon (spoilers)
Looks like a cool episode. Good to see something happening with Lionel. However, the original spoilers for this episode called for Martha to have been shot. Given pot-smoking looney who just shot the AZ rep, you sorta have to wonder how (or if) the subplot may have been altered. Anyway. Looks cool.
But as usual, the Apologists from the Younis page had the usual contempt. And, also as usual, several of them are completely fucking clueless.
Ah, yes, Lex is positioned as Superman's greatest enemy in SV only because Dr. Fate's helmet said so. Not because that's, y'know, established mythos or anything, no no.Douchebag Apologist wrote:#1 | odd on February 5, 2011 6:21pm EST
I know Dr. Fate said Lex was Clark's greatest enemy but I'm sic of the story arch....I hope they end it soon. Bye Lex and Lionel...please goodbye. 9 years is long enough!

You either see a problem with this statement or you don't. And if you don't, there's nothing I can say to you. Or for you.Douchebag Apologist wrote:#2 | JR1989 on February 5, 2011 8:56pm EST
I don't think lex should have ever been in smallville, Clark doesn't cross paths with lex until he's superman.

Ya it does look to be a good episode. Can't wait to see martha again. Plus see where the alt lionel and lex clone go. As for the episode probably did get altered a bit with the az shooting a few weeks back. Which could have played into the whole bs delaying of episode 12. But probably not to much. Anyway can't wait to see it fri.

Re: 10.13, Beacon (spoilers)
Well tonight was the 13th episode of the finale season. It was written by don whitehead and holly henderson. It was directed by mike rohl. Tonight we saw the return of clone lex, alt world lionel and martha kent. Also we got to see the believe in the blur fan summited videos.
Holly and don wrote a great episode tonight. One of there better episodes. We got to see serious movement and end to the government vra/anti hero stuff. Also wrote a solid return for matha and clone lex and alt lionel. I loved the plot with matha being pro hero and helping to get anti hero stuff to be dismissed.
It was interesting move having clone lex targeting martha to get to clark. That wad written very well. Loved the krypto gun he had. They played that stuff well. The opening scene with lionel taking over was great. I loved how evil alt lionel is. And how he was trying to play everyone against each other. Little lex is one serious disturbed young man.
I loved how he was after clark. And lionel played his scenes well. It felt like an old school episode. Everyone was used well. Loved the ref to past with lionel and the watch. Also the perry white ref. The fan videos where really nice. It was a nice thing to do with sv fans. Also very interesting ending with clone having powers or something. Can't wait to see where it goes.
As for luthor mansion man so sad to see another set bite the dust. I totally didn't expect to happen. But it looked pretty good. The special effects where very good tonight. Really can't wait to see where clone lex goes and alt lionel. Also loved the vra is over and the heroes can move into the light now. Glad they ended the vra plot, so they can move on with lionel/lex and darkseid.
Directing rohl did a very good episode. He has had some good and bad episodes from what I can recall. But tonight he did good. Lighting and camera work was nicely done. He worked well with all the principals and got good work out of everyone.
Acting was great all around. Having glover and otoole was great. They worked well together and with the rest of the cast. Its been a missing thing from last few yrs. But they did great tonight. Glover hasn't lost his touch one bit. Same with annette. See had great touching and emotional scenes with allison/erica and tom.
Tom was great as always. He worked great with lucas/annette/glover. He hasn't lost his touch with them. Also he did well with the regulars too. Erica was lovely, caring, and warm. Same with cassidy as tess. She had some great dramatic scenes with glover and lucas.
Lucas was great tonight as lex clone. He was awesome tonight. If michael isn't back in finale definately wouldn't mind him being there. He played anger well and was one sick guy.
So all in all a great episode tonight. Acting was good, story was great. Everything was just perfect tonight. I enjoyed every minute. It felt like a great old school history. Def one of my top fan episodes for this season. Preview for next week looks to be another good one. Can't wait to see what's up with deasaad and clark's whole clark identity.

Maybe just some invul deal that kicked in now after x time frame due to his body shutting down. Or maybe the clone tricked tess and he found cure/with gave him powers and is trying to play tess.

Beacon
Dug it. A lot. It'd be easy to pick on the repeal of the VRA. I mean, stuff like that doesn't get put to a referendum. I mean, has the government given the public input on the Patriot Act?
But in terms of establishing how the public feels about superheroes, the referendum plays.
I've always said that Clark in this universe equates going public with losing his privacy and his identity as Clark. It was good to see that validated during his chat with Martha. I'm patting myself on the bag on that one.
Even so, it brings up what looks like a reversal of Goughlar's policy. Al made it pretty clear around season 2 or 3 that when this Clark grows up, he'll be Clark Kent who disguises himself as Superman.
This episode seemed to indicate that when the SV Clark becomes Superman, he'll disguise himself as Clark Kent.
Bah, whatever.
I'd forgotten how much I'd missed Glover but this was a good reminder. Loved having him back.
Lucas Grabeel... well, he's no Rosenbaum. But he's also not that other kid playing Lex this season so there's that. Overall, he did well for himself. I'll be happy to see more of him. Until Rosenbaum comes back, anyway.
If I've got a nitpick, it's that so much of this episode is exposition, setting up the next several episodes. You're halfway through the episode before anything of real substance happens with the plot. You get some neat character moments but a lot of those things either set up resolutions in this episode or in episodes to come. Not a huge gripe or anything but still noticeable.
Overall? I give it 4/5.

Well beacon ratings are in:
2.3mill 0.9 demo
Sucks on low numbers. Really hoped it would have gone up after last well. With the whole delayed crap. Last night episode was really good. Sucks ratings didn't go hiher. Was hoping between 2.4-2.6mill range.

Re: 10.13, Beacon (spoilers)
Great episode I thought. One of the best of this season.
Glover...he really is a Magnificent Bastard, isn't he. His scene with Annette O'Toole was great. A couple of old acting pro's going for it, and the A-LEXander kid was a good little actor too.
And Chloe revealed her superhero identity. Did anyone else notice her outfit halfway through the ep? Who knew she had "The Shadow"s outfit??? Interesting choice after last weeks story.
Talking about last week's story....I rewatched the last 10 minutes before the new ep and noticed Hawkman was actually "on ice" next to "Black Canary" at the end. Was his "death" a hallucination too?

I remember actually liking Alec Baldwin's "The Shadow" movie when it came out. I need to find a copy so I can watch it again and see if I feel the same.
The trailer is pretty sweet:

Re: 10.13, Beacon (spoilers)
Yeah, I still like it. Funny how we all have similar tastes.......but we knew that!
I reckon it was a very under rated film, and one of Mulchay's best as a director.
I used to love the old radio shows as a kid, and the film was fairly faithful. Plus, it still looks and sounds stunning.
As you know, it's my secret wish to see a period Superman film one day. This film always make me think of how great it could look, not that it'd ever happen!
