New Line Cinema Moving Forward With Y: THE LAST MAN Adaptation

Reports are coming in suggesting that New Line Cinema are finally looking to get the long-proposed film adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's Y: The Last Man,and are currently looking at director candidates for the movie. Read on for more details. Paul Romano - 9/10/2012

A film adaptation for the Vertigo comic book series Y: The Last Man has been in development for some years. Back in 2007, D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four) was attached to direct, with his Disturbia star also being linked to the movie. However, due to disagreements between Caruso and New Line Cinema (who were developing the project), the director eventually walked out. Since then, The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier expressed interest in adapting the series for television. In March, Jericho scribes Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia were hired to pen the latest draft for the movie, reigniting hope among fans who were wanting to see Y: The Last Man come to the big screen.

And now, Vulture has more good news for the project. According to the site's sources, Y: The Last Man is now one of New Line's first priorities. They are reportedly very pleased with Federman/Scaia's script, and have begun the process of meeting with potential directors for the movie.

For those who aren't familiar with the series, Y: The Last Man follows young amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his male Capuchin monkey Ampersand, who are the only living mammals with a Y chromosome left alive on Earth after a plague wipes out. Written by Brian K. Vaughn and penciled by Pia Guerra, the series ran for 60 issues under DC Comics' Vertigo print.
