Heh, I thought it was pretty underwhelming. Maybe too minimalist for my taste. I do like the teaser poster more, with the iconic gunbarrel that screamed "Bond is back". Sure, the new one has the 007 logo taking up most of the space, but oh well. I think the last great poster was this:

I'd love Hollywood to embrace hand drawn posters more these days and have less reliance on photoshop work. Nothing quite beats the classic posters like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and such. Usually it's the teaser posters that are more interesting to look at than the main one sheets. TDKR's teaser poster looked pretty nifty, and then they released the final poster and it looked like the laziest work I have ever seen. Laughing

I'd agree with that. I guess there's more potential in teasers since they don't have to be the definitive, iconic, eternal statement about the movie (although I still get pretty excited looking the Episode One teaser poster). Still, I think TDK had better teasers than either of the other two.

I don't mind the Photoshop stuff when it's done well and doesn't call too much attention to itself (which I'd argue is the case with the Skyfall teaser). But when it looks cheap and amateurish, that's when I get pissed.

Nice poster, and according to showbiz411 looks like the long standing rumor of singer adele doing the theme has been confirmed.

Adele Will Sing the Song for ‘Skyfall’

Posted on 9.14.12 by Philip Sticco

I think we may finally be getting a good Bond song again. Chris Cornell’s Casino Royale song was okay, but I down right hated the Jack White and Alicia Keys pairing on Quantum of Solace. I like White and Keys on their own, but that song did nothing for me at all.

Showbiz 411 is confirming the rumor that songstress Adele will be belting out the song for Skyfall, which is currently titled Skyfall (oddly enough).

What do you think? It’s hard to argue that Adele has a hell of a voice and will no doubt add style and class to whatever she performs.

What is your favorite Bond song? I’ve always been partial to Carly Simon’s Nobody Does It Better from The Spy Who Loved Me, which is odd, because that really isn’t my kind of music at all.

They were likely hiding who the singer was up to now as a way of countering the song getting leaked, like what happened to the last two songs. Smart move not announcing who the singer was until all was said and done. I look forward to how it turns out.

New plot synopsis:

"When Bond’s latest assignment goes gravely wrong and agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked forcing M to relocate the agency. These events cause her authority and position to be challenged by Mallory (RALPH FIENNES), the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. With MI6 now compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. 007 takes to the shadows – aided only by field agent, Eve (NAOMIE HARRIS) – following a trail to the mysterious Silva (JAVIER BARDEM), whose lethal and hidden motives have yet to reveal themselves."

Ya but they couldn't keep it hidden to long with preordrs/soundtracks stuff nearing time of release. Had as forr adele I am sure she will do good. But wasn't surprise since she been the only name rumored for months now. So not to shocking there.

Just saw the trailer at the theater when I went to watch 'Raider of the Lost Ark' at AMC, since I didn't bother watching it on my computer.

Looks MUCH better than the last one.

Don't care about Bond, no stake in the franchise, blah blah blah, that sounds like a freaking COOL movie to me.

The newly released Blu-ray set with all 22 films: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-ray_reviews57/bond_50_blu-ray.htm

Bought it at Amazon for $149.99, which is like 7 bucks per disc. Couldn't turn that down. I knew a full set like this was gonna come out in the future which is why I didn't bother buying the three-disc volumes that came out when Quantum of Solace hit theaters, as a whole set is always cheaper than a bunch of three-disc volumes altogether and only three were made before the MGM bankrupsy, whoops! So all the remaining films that never got on blu are in the new set or released seperately.

Def want to get the 22 movie set. Only have a few films and dvd only. But trying to save cash for some other things. Also as it was released a few days ago adele bond theme is out. Personally sounds very good. And a classic bond feel to me. Here is the song if you haven't heard it yet:

Bought tickets to the IMAX showing for Thursday next week. Really looking forward to it. I was hesitant about going to IMAX because I thought it would be just another blow-up like INCEPTION, but it turns out they're gonna be opening up the matte for extra picture and I'm told it should be quite a sight. Though unlike TDK which was 1:44, this one is supposed to be 1:90 according to the DP.

Already watched the 22 films on blu for the first time and made my own personal rankings too.

  1. From Russia with Love
  2. Goldfinger
  3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
  4. Dr. No
  5. Casino Royale
  6. Thunderball
  7. The Living Daylights
  8. GoldenEye
  9. For Your Eyes Only
  10. Moonraker
  11. Diamonds Are Forever
  12. Live and Let Die
  13. Octopussy
  14. Licence to Kill
  15. Quantum of Solace
  16. The Spy Who Loved Me
  17. You Only Live Twice
  18. A View to a Kill
  19. Die Another Day
  20. Tomorrow Never Dies
  21. The World is Not Enough

Also I'm reading the final book that Fleming wrote, which I'm told Skyfall took a few plot points from (since the film version never used anything from the book).

Watched it with my cousin on IMAX.

I'm calling it. It's the best action/adventure film of the year. It's either this or THE AVENGERS, but 007 has always appealed to me more than MARVEL so I'm giving the old bulldog the edge. People have been making comparisons to TDK, and I can see that to an extent but I thought SKYFALL was much better made than any of the Bat films, the biggest strength over them being the pacing, as the filmmakers treated the film with patience and gave it air, Nolan usually ran every scene at 100MPH as if they were glorified trailers.

I'm going to have to disagree for one simple, yet important, reason:

'The Avengers' was more FUN than 'Skyfall'. And a HUGE part of action-adventure films is fun.

Now this isn't to say 'Skyfall' isn't an extremely good film, because it is. Infinitely better than 'Quantum of Solace', and better even than 'Casino Royale'. Craig was the only choice for this interpretation of Bond, of this I have no doubt. Might not be as "handsome" as the majority of others, but he definitely owns the role in these films. Confidence bordering on smugness. I approve.

Going backwards to move the character forward was a bold move, and it paid off. 4 out of 5 for me.

Like I said, I give 007 the edge because it appeals more to me. Really just a preference, nothing more. Having seen it a second time, I'd say this is as much the defining film for Daniel Craig's run as Goldfinger was for Connery and The Spy Who Loved Me was for Moore (which were their third films, guess third time is really a charm for 007, although Brosnan's was an exception). It seems to be really striking a chord for people a lot more than even Casino Royale did for sure if the word of mouth and box office is anything to go by.

It also proves that Bond works much better as adventure/thriller films. The Brosnan era went too far into action film territory where it depended on set pieces when the story was lacking. Casino Royale was the return of that spy adventure/thriller kind of Bond film and it was much better received. Quantum of Solace was more of an action film (compensating for the anorexic story) and unsurprisingly it did not fare well. I hope the producers take notice of that and continue the path CR and SF paved for future entries.
