Fox has just closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn to come back and direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class, with Simon Kinberg writing the script and Bryan Singer back as producer.

Hm. Not bad. Apart from some illogical plot points (they never got a new/redesigned jet?), I was cool with the first one.

Ya I too thought the film turned out well. I know a lot of us thought it be crap. And having matt back is a good point.

You mean like Magneto hating humans more than mutants? You know, the guy who killed his friggin' MOTHER right in front of him?

Yep, there's that too. Another illogical plot point. I've only seen it the one time but I enjoyed it. It was a fun time at the movies, which is a lot more than I ever expected from this film. It's not in my top five best comic movies ever but I enjoyed myself while I watched it.Apologist Puncher wrote:thecolorsblend wrote:Hm. Not bad. X-MEN FIRST CLASS Sequel To Film In January
To avoid a conflict Jennifer Lawrence's sequel to the hit film Hunger Games Fox has decided to begin filming of the next X-Men film in January.
nailbiter111 - 4/5/2012
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Fox is informing talent agencies Thursday that the studio plans to begin shooting its in-development sequel to X-Men: First Class in January. That means Lionsgate could move forward with an August-September start date for the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire without a conflict for Lawrence, who is set to star in both.

Good find there. Can't wait to see what villain they go with. I am hoping for mir. Sinister myself. I think he be a good one to go with. As for hunger games they may have issue with doing sequel I read. The director may not return(money reasons of course). So production on that could be delayed.

Good to know. In and of herself, I don't really either way about Jennifer Lawrence. But I hate it when characters are recast in sequels. So this sounds fine. Is the whole cast back onboard now? I forget the dude's name but I really liked Xavier. But let's not overlook the obvious, January Jones is most welcome too...Apologist Puncher wrote:http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/nailbiter111/news/?a=57501X-MEN FIRST CLASS Sequel To Film In January

The X-Men: First Class Sequel Set for July 18, 2014 by SuperHeroHype May 31, 2012 Share this story
Matthew Vaughn will return for the Marvel Comics adaptation
20th
Century Fox has announced a July 18, 2014 release date for their untitled X-Men: First Class sequel.
Reports from last month indicate that the project is likely to shoot in January of 2013 to avoid scheduling conflicts with star Jennifer Lawrence, who will soon be shooting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. She's expected to reprise her role of Mystique alongside James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Caleb Landry Jones and Lucas Till.
The first film, released last year, grossed over $350 million worldwide. Director Matthew Vaughn will return to direct the sequel.

Glad to see the ball is rolling for this one. Despite it making less than the previous films, it seems there's a lot more certainty with this flick than there was during post-THE LAST STAND when nobody was sure where the hell the franchise was headed. I still haven't brought myself to watch WOLVERINE all the way through.

I still can't wrap my head around everyone ignoring the plot holes and nonsensical character development in the first film. It was well made, granted. And if you ignore them, it is a pretty good film. But come on.....
Magneto hates humans more than mutants, even though it was a MUTANT that killed his family and tortured him for years??

My sole justification for my enjoyment of the movie is Xavier, Magneto and Mystique. I liked those actors and those performances. Does Magneto's agenda make complete sense? Clearly not. But damn, those scenes are really engrossing...Apologist Puncher wrote:I still can't wrap my head around everyone ignoring the plot holes and nonsensical character development in the first film. FIRST CLASS is one of those kind of flicks that do have flaws but in the long run there's a quality to it that makes the whole thing engaging that whatever flaws there are isn't too harmful.
Magneto hates humans more than mutants, even though it was a MUTANT that killed his family and tortured him for years??
I'd say hating a single individual and hating the entire human race are mutually exclusive in his case. His reasons for killing Shaw are personal, with humans he sees his actions as something for the greater good (mutants) and with his experience with the Nazis he knows what they're capable of.

I disagree.
Shaw says: "We don't hurt our own kind". Then he kills Darwin later in the film.
Angel just up and decides to not only quit the "team", but to try KILLING THEM later in the film. Why?
And these are just the things I remember.

This would make sense, if they had decided to include one small, crucial thing:
SHOWING HUMANS MISTREATING HIM.
Throughout the movie, all they showed was Shaw hurting him. In MAJOR ways. There was no balance on the human side. A few snide comments or looks isn't the same as torturing you and killing your family.
His "turn" was almost as mind-boggling as Sinestro in "Green LanTurd".....

I wouldn't bet on Shaw staying true to his word. He tortured young Erik afterall.Apologist Puncher wrote:Stockslivevan wrote:FIRST CLASS is one of those kind of flicks that do have flaws but in the long run there's a quality to it that makes the whole thing engaging that whatever flaws there are isn't too harmful.

I agree with that, but it doesn't bring the whole house down for me. Just a poorly realized subplot that should have not been used.Angel just up and decides to not only quit the "team", but to try KILLING THEM later in the film. Why?

I agree, they should have explored more of his viewpoint on humans but I suspect the filmmakers wanted to focus on the more intimate conflict between him and Shaw, showing how he's slowly becoming more like him and he doesn't realize it to give it tragic touch. Besides, given his experience with Nazis (who killed Jews in death camps) makes him believe there is no hope for humanity and that the world is better off without them. Not for personal reasons but because he's seen how vicious they are towards his kind and minorities. Still, they could have included more I think.
Ha, I didn't even finish that flick. His "turn" was almost as mind-boggling as Sinestro in "Green LanTurd".....
I will say this though, I found his turn far more believable and gripping than the way Anakin Skywalker's was portrayed. I only wish FIRST CLASS was expanded, maybe two or three films to reach its full potential. That's my big criticism, the story shouldn't have been crammed in one flick.
My rankings:
X2
X-MEN
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
X-MEN: THE LAST STAND

It's just one of several that I can't ignore while watching.

Again, we saw no "viciousness" towards mutants. Pettiness? Sure. But nothing vicious.
In fact, ALL the viciousness in the film was FROM mutants TOWARDS humans. All of it.
Ha, I didn't even finish that flick.
It takes place after the credits, so you'd have to watch ALL of it.
This I don't recommend.

At the very least, Magneto's switch should have been drawn out. There was no reason for him to take that step so suddenly without proper build-up.
My rankings:
X2
X-MEN
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
X-MEN: THE LAST STAND
I can't argue with that.
What I find funny is, the ignorant people whining & moaning about Zod being used for the SECOND TIME in almost 40 years have NO issue with Magneto being the villain in EVERY. SINGLE. X-MEN. MOVIE.

Re: 'X-men: Days Of Future Past' News and Rumors thread
I never saw him as the main villain in X2, he's more in the sidelines like Lex Luthor in Superman II, and rightfully so. Stryker is very much the main antagonist in that flick.
For THE LAST STAND, Magneto should have remained in the sidelines, no cure storyline (could have saved it for another film) and more emphasis on the Phoenix. THE LAST STAND is one of the few movies that actually ticked me off for various reasons. The characters from the first two films are suddenly different people. Like when Erik abandons Mystique, RIGHT AFTER SHE TOOK A BULLET FOR HIM. Xavier giving up on Cyclops (like after what, a week?), then telling others of his lack of confidence in him (????!!!!). And the most hilarious bit: Wolverine turning down sex with Jean.
Then there's behind the scenes shit like Halle Berry being a diva, wanting a bigger part at the expense of the others. Killing off Xavier and Cyclops only done so that Halle Berry can become the new team leader. Gimmicks thrown into scenes purely so Berry can do something (oh look, it's misty, let Halle Berry clear it up. Oh yeah lets chuck in a scene with Halle Berry on a balcony almost causing a hurricane for no reason. Why? Because Halle wants screentime).
My loathing of her doesn't end there. It's hard not to forget that this academy award winning actress turned in one of the most appalling performances as a Bond girl (made worse by the awful script).
Bah, I'm ranting. Fuck it.

Honestly, the BIGGEST sin they committed in X3 was the very end.
They go thru the whole "cure" thing, only to ruin the entire POINT with that Magneto scene.

It's funny how in HollyWeird, actresses seem to become "good" for absolutely NO reason. Like Jessica Alba. What the fuck did SHE do to get known as a "good" actress?? Am I taking crazy pills or did I miss something?

True, he plays his part there at the end but as far as the rest of the flick is concerned it's all Stryker. It looks like they'll use this same approach for THOR 2 with Loki hanging around but not being the immediate threat.Apologist Puncher wrote:Stockslivevan wrote:I never saw him as the main villain in X2, he's more in the sidelines like Lex Luthor in Superman II, and rightfully so. One of the leaks that got out during the troubled production. Remember, at one point Halle Berry was not going to come back at all because of her issues with Singer and (to a lesser extent) Hayter. I believe this also played a part in them jumping ship, because Fox wasn't willing to let go of an Oscar winning big name, so they figure hiring different filmmakers might be less harmful, because nobody is going to these flicks because of certain filmmakers helming them.

X-Men: First Class Sequel Story Details? by Spencer Perry June 05, 2012 Share this story
Rumor about the new film that seems logical
If you were like us and enjoyed the heck out of X-Men: First Class, then you probably wanted to see a sequel as soon as the credits rolled. Unfortunately, we have to wait until July 18, 2014 to see any more of our favorite mutants. Details about the sequel have been few and far between as of late but this newest rumor could prove to be the most interesting if true.
Over at Ain't it Cool News they're reporting a rumor about what Fox is cooking up for the X-men.
One of my little birds Weapon X recently dropped me some information that 20th Century Fox had recently registered the title DAYS OF FUTURE PAST with the MPAA Title Registration Bureau.
For those of you not in the know on X-Men lore, "Days of Future Past" dealt with a time-traveling Kitty Pryde warning the present day X-Men that in the future Sentinels rule the United States and all mutants are put in internment camps.
If true, Fox will probably shy away from this exact story in favor of a version of it to fit this movie universe.
What do you think? How does time travel and alternate realities sound to you?

Re: 'X-men: Days Of Future Past' News and Rumors thread
If there's one thing that bothered me about the X films, it's that they never really did much of anything with the sentinels. They're overdue.
The other thing is... um, what exactly needs to be modified to the fit this version of the X-Men? You've got Kitty traveling through time from an alternate future. Anything goes! I doubt that Juno chick would come back more (although maybe...) but since it's an alternate future, the filmmakers aren't beholden to anything or anyone. Plus, it's another way to get Jackman back as Wolverine. He's a crowd pleaser so that's something to think about.
By no means am I a huge X-Men fan or expert but I don't see how the basic premise of DOFP would have to be modified to work with the First Class continuity simply because of it being an alternate future/time travel thing.
But hey, maybe I'm missing something here...
