Superhero Hype wrote:The film having no relation to the previous "Fantastic Four" movies is no surprise, but Vaughn's comments are definitely eyebrow raising, particularly the "it's not a stretchy guy" portion, which refers to Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic's sole super power.

You know what, say whatever you want about Nolan but he made Batman movies that starred a dude running around in a rubber bat-costume. He definitely picked and chose what he wanted to do in the films but he didn't completely repudiate what he was there to do. He just took himself waaaaaaay too seriously.

non_amos (if that is his real name) wrote:But these guys?! I liked that X-Men reboot but this Fantastic 4 reboot continues to sound like garbage! It's bad enough that they're changing the Human Torch just because the Jordan dude is friends with the director but now the producer comes along & is insulted by 'stretchy guy' & rock guy'?!

Someone please put this project out of it's misery. Swiftly!  Lame
My reading of X-Men- First Class is and was that Bryan Singer had primary (and final) creative say. If that's so, Vaughn was basically a hired gun. Maybe FF is more representative of what he thinks a comic book movie "ought to be".

My problem here is that there's really no stink to overcome with the original FF movies. At least not among civilians. Core fans definitely have mixed views of those movies but it's not like either of them shat all over FF on film. This fucking reboot sure sounds like it will though.

Hey, those original F4 films are like Shakespeare compared to this travesty! For that matter, so is the Roger Corman version.

I just don't get why those films get a bad rap. Yeah, Corman, maybe. But the Tim Story films were not entirely bad imho. One way to look at it is that comic book films were still 'finding their way'. MOS & Avengers were still in the future at this point. Also, Marvel didn't really have the rights anyway so there ya go Fox! But in spite of all that the films were OK to me. And maybe more importantly is that they at least attempted to capture the spirit of the Fantastic Four in spite of any glaring flaws.

This new steaming pile is just that, a steaming pile. Just check out the comments over there. It's overwhelmingly negative & several comments have even been deleted, apparently by mods. This film likely will be crushed at the box office & I don't yet know what their direct competition is but it does come out the same summer as Avengers 2, right? Need I say more.  Rolling Eyes

One thing that is kind of good (in terms of fanboy bragging rights) is that this is going to be a black eye for Marvel properties. Up to now, there's not really been a major failure apart from stuff like Ghost Rider and the Punisher, neither of which are big Marvel franchises. At least not like Spider-Man and the rest. And people tend to say that Marvel properties (in a global sense rather than specifically Marvel Studios) are just inherently more interesting to the public, hence the lack of notable failures of signature properties.

This FF reboot will likely be what undoes their relatively good track record. And for the part of me that enjoys the Coke vs. Pepsi mentality of the DC/Marvel thing (and coming down firmly on the DC side), I'm a little happy that this movie will get completely destroyed.

Of course, it's likely to get completely destroyed by a different Marvel property but, hey, baby steps.

The death knell continues:

Four Actors Are in the Running for Fantastic Four’s Dr. Doom

With Jamie Bell, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Miles Teller set to play Marvel's First Family in director Josh Trank's The Fantastic Four, 20th Century Fox has turned their attention to the casting the film's foe, Dr. Victor von Doom. The Wrap today claims that the field has been narrowed to four choices: Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) and Sam Riley (On the Road).
Filming on The Fantastic Four is expected to begin in Baton Rouge this month, so expect the role to be locked and confirmed in the very near future.
The Fantastic Four is set for release on June 19, 2015.

As if the Jordan dude ain't bad enough, What's with these douchebags? At least Doom ain't a woman but gimme a break! This looks like a Twilight audition for crying out loud! And that's basically the sentiment in the comments over there too.

I wonder what Stan Lee thinks about this garbage and will he do a cameo?  Suspect

Stan Lee's been a company man since before either of us were born. "I LOVE the new Fantastic Four cast! Excelsior, true believer!" I'd be amazed if he says anything other than PR bullshit like that.

Considering this a rumor until otherwise instructed.

Bleeding Cool wrote:I've learnt from a rather well-connected source that, as the title says, Fox has dumped Fantastic Four director Josh Trank and the script by Simon Kinberg and are actively looking for replacements. Six months before they are due to shoot, for 2015 release.

Oh, yes, and there are now casting issues from the studio too.

No I don't know any more. Isn't that enough?

I know. Maybe they could ask their Official Consultant, Mark Millar...

UPDATE: Screen Crush cites high level Fox sources denying this story. However we remain confident in our source. Bleeding Cool suggests that if Fox really would like to stomp on the rumour, they stop approaching folk to replace the director and to write a new screenplay.

I have no more of a clue about this than anybody else. But IF it's true, we can thank the fans for speaking out about this piece of shit with corn in it early enough to kill it. IF this is true, I'll have a new respect for Fox because originally I theorized this was a token effort to keep the FF film rights. If this is true, they may not have time to mount a new production ahead of their deadline... and then what? Might they lose the rights? The easier thing would've been for them to make a shitty film and try to reboot later. This isn't the path of least resistance for them. If this pans out, they may have painted themselves in a corner. Yeah, they'll lose out on something but they'll have my respect. Better than nothing, right?

I was about to post the same thing so I'll just provide the link:

http://screencrush.com/fantastic-four-rumor/

I saw this when checking my e-mail & felt like rejoicing before I even read the thing!  cheers

My guess is that someone, somewhere, probably someone who 'writes the checks', has heard the 'voice of reason'. If true, then the fans have spoken. And surprisingly, someone listened. Obviously the casting of Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch hasn't sat well with fans in general & I'm sure they're not all white fans either. I mean, c'mon, some fans actually care about the canon, the characters, on & on & some changes are simply not necessary. This has to be one of the biggest examples I can think of.

I just hope this turns out to be true. For our sakes! And to be truthful, I'm seeing comments where fans 'just want the rights to revert back to Marvel'. Puh-leazzzeee!
