Dean Cain thinks Henry Cavill will be great as a superhero

Dean Cain wishes British actor Henry Cavill all the best in his new role of Superman.

The American actor starred as the superhero alongside Teri Hatcher in hit 90s TV show Lois And Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Dean said: "They (journalists) asked me because he's a Brit you know, so they said 'a Brit's going to go play Superman and it's a big deal. How did I feel about that?' like it's a big affront.

"I have no problem with that whatsoever because the reality is the character himself Superman was from another planet but he was raised in the middle of America with small town American values."

Dean joked that he'd swap the role for the part of James Bond, saying: "I just said 'it's fine with me because I get to play the next James Bond so thank you very much - outstanding'!"

He said of Henry taking on the part in the Zack Snyder film: "It's a tough role. I think he's going to do fantastically he's a very good actor. You never know what you're going to get into. It's a big role, it's an iconic role. I wish him luck."

The 44-year-old actor revealed that even though he has not played Superman since 1997, the part stays with him, and his 11-year-old son's classmates still remind him his dad is Superman.

Dean said: "I have one son, he's eleven years old and he's very well aware of that fact, yes.

"He gets reminded by his buddies and then he reminds them quickly that he's not really Superman, not even close."
