I usually (but not always) try to steer clear of pronouncing judgment on something before I see the final product but... holy shit. I just couldn't be more stoked for this movie. As far as cinema, this type of action thing is my second or third love but, man oh man, just can't wait.

R-egarding That EXPENDABLES 2 R-ating!!
Published at: Mar 19, 2012 12:58:26 PM CDT
Merrick here...
A while back, the world of badassness was shaken to its foundation by word that the next EXPENDABLES movie would be rated PG-13, instead of the (for my money, infinitely more appropriate) "R" rating many of us were expecting.
From my point of view, the matter boils down to one simple and concise issue: when one is marketing a film about some of the toughest mofos ever to appear on the big screen, watering them down with a less flexible rating pretty much runs contrary to the point of the entire project.
It's now looking like all the vile, vitriol, and consternation many (including myself) have hurled towards this decision has been weighed. Or, at the very least, this may simply be a case of The Powers That Be finally coming to their senses.
According to THIS piece at StalloneZone, the site has been contacted by Sly, who conceded the following:
“After taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, EXPENDABLES II is an R.”
I'm not completely sure what rumors and hearsay Sly is referring to here - he confirmed the picture's PG-13 rating to us here on AICN back on Jan 18 (HERE). Was other scuttlebutt afoot? Whatever the case, it's now looking like we can retire this wonderful fan made poster. Retire, perhaps. But not necessarily delete.

Re: 'Expendables 2'
Is anybody seriously going to oppose this decision? Well, besides the Pissed Off Soccer Moms of America, I mean. The only thing that surprises me is that the PG-13 thing was ever on the table to begin with.
Of course, so much of this movie is set in place that likely the R-rating will encompass violence moreso than language... but I don't suppose anybody sees movies like this for the vulgarity so much as the gunfights so it all balances out in the end.

The Expendables 3 to Start Filming This Fall
There may be a very good reason that Sylvester Stallone is going back to an R rating for his upcoming sequel The Expendables 2. If co-star Randy Couture has his facts straight, Sly is planning a trilogy of films for this franchise, and he wants to stay on the good side of his fans to ensure that happens.
A third film seems like a no brainer, and it will be coming quicker than we could have imagined. According to Couture, this next installment of the action icon packed series is already planned and will "probably" shoot in the fall, shortly after The Expendables 2 hits theaters in August.
Here is his exact quote."Probably going to start shooting Expendables 3 in the fall after The Expendables 2 comes out in August."
Sorry if that seemed redundant. You can watch the interview here. Go to the 3:02 mark for Randy Couture's comments.
Donnie Yen, Gina Carano, Steven Seagal, Wesley Snipes, and Kurt Russell are all in the running for The Expendables 3.
The Expendables 2 comes to theaters August 17th, 2012 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Liam Hemsworth, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Jet Li. The film is directed by Simon West.

Re: 'Expendables 2'
Nice find there. Seems like a logical thing to do. Get it going while iron is hot. More so if the sequel does well in theaters. Would be sweet to see which actors be in the film.

I'll be down for a 3rd, especially since they wised-up about the rating.

Dolph Lundgren Talks EXPENDABLES 2 Rating, Norris, And More!!
Published at: Mar 29, 2012 9:39:59 AM CDT
Merrick here...
A week or two ago, confirmation came from Sly Stallone that this Summer's EXPENDABLES 2 would now carry an 'R' rating, as opposed to the softened, surprising, and unpopular PG-13 rating which had been previously announced (details HERE).
In THIS discussion with Empire, the mighty Dolph Lundgren - who reprises his Gunnar Jensen role for the sequel - chimes in on the matter, confirming that...
"I heard that it's now R again," says Dolph. "Stallone's basic setting is to make it very violent.
[EDIT]
...I think for the fans, if it's tougher it's better."
Regarding whether Chuck Norris pressured the project's assumed 'R' rating down to a PG-13 as a condition of his involvement in EXPENDABLES 2, Lundgren revealed...
"Chuck likes to re-cut all of his films before he shows them to his kids," grins Dolph. "He told me he has his own editor. So it's irrelevant! He could make it a G-rating if he wanted to!"
..implying that the move may've been initially conceived because PG-13 movies can make more money.
EXPENDABLES 2 emasculates every man not in its cast on 17 August.

I've intentionally not kept up with spoilers but is Arnold going to say "I'll be back" in Expendables 2?

Doesn't he just say that in the Terminator films? Or does he also say it in other films? Can he legally do that due to all of the copyright crapola? Like if he did that in this film the owners of the Terminator franchise might call foul, so on & so forth. Maybe start a 'Siegel parasite' war or something? I don't know.

For sure he said it in Twins. "If you're lying... I'll be back" or some such. I swear to think it's in his other movies too but I'm too lazy to look it up.non_amos wrote:thecolorsblend wrote:I've intentionally not kept up with spoilers but is Arnold going to say "I'll be back" in Expendables 2?

Like we discussed in that Avengers thread, very little is known about 'Expendables 2' beyond what they have shown us.
But I doubt it, that's more of a thing you'd here in an Arnold film, not a Stallone film he is playing a limited role in.

He said it in:
'Commando' "I'll be back, Bennett!"
'Running Man' "Killian...I'll be back." Killian: "Only in a rerun"
'Last Action Hero' Jack Slater: "I'll be back! Ha! You didn't know I was gonna say that, did you?" Kid: "That's what you always say!" Slater: "I do?"
'The 6th Day' "I might be back." Reply: "Oh, you'll be back."
And variations in a few others, including 'Twins'.

Given everything else Batman & Robin riffed on (and ruined), it's surprising it didn't pop up there either... with some kind of ice pun thrown in.
