I consider myself a Godzilla fan but..........even I'll admit that many of the old films are cheesy & somewhat comical but the 1998 CGI film left something to be desired in many fans eyes. GODZILLA 2000 was a return to TOHO & actually a better film. As far as the old films, my all-time favorite is GODZILLA vs. MOTHRA, originally known in the US as GODZILLA vs. THE THING. That one is really good compared to the later 'cheesy' films. Another good one is the original 1956 film GODZILLA, KING OF THE MONSTERS but I'll caution you though. This version has Raymond Burr 'spliced in' for the American audience & it has a 'disjointed 'feel to me as a result. However, if you buy this deluxe DVD like I have somewhere, you also get the original 1954 film, GOJIRA, which was the original Japanese version. Not only is this version longer, it also seems like a completely different film! Although you have to read through English subtitles, it's actually a superior version & makes more sense.
Now to David S. Goyer. Why did they pick him? Let me guess. He's achieved a certain amount of 'notoriety' due to his association with Christopher Nolan, with Batman & now Superman. Since Legendary is apparently gonna be working with TOHO on this, there's another obvious connection. My guess is that they actually want this film to succeed & they must have confidence in Goyer to deliver the goods. I'd like a really good film here too, along the lines of the original Japanese version but more modern. But what's up with Goyer now? Is he the 'reboot guy' now?

Deadline reports that David Goyer will write the screenplay for Legendary Pictures' Godzilla from a draft by David Callaham. Goyer has worked on Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed Superman movie.
Toho's "Godzilla" franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide. Legendary Pictures intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible.
Gareth Edwards will direct the Warner Bros. Pictures release, to be produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.

Well, is Goyer history or not?:

First there's questions about Goyer's departure from THE MAN OF STEEL for GODZILLA. Now he seems to have been removed from that film as well?! Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?! Well, at least he wasn't removed from Nolan's Batman series. I guess we should count our lucky stars for that huh?

A new writer has been brought in to rewrite Legendary Pictures' Godzilla: Max Borenstein.
David Goyer of Blade and Christopher Nolan's Batman films penned a draft of the script. Borenstein's in to give it a rewrite.
Hey, remember was Legendary was stoked to get this in theaters in 2012? Yeah, don't think that's going to happen.
The good news is Gareth Edwards of Monsters is still on board to direct. Hopefully, Goyer's script provided enough for Edwards to at least begin conceptualizing the film.

Re: David Goyer To Write Godzilla Script!
I dint see what's bad here. Writers come and go all the time on scripts. Some times one stays on for the whole film process. Where as other times maybe it will go through a series of writers to its ready for shooting stage.

I didn't keep up with the story but I thought Goyer had simply finished all his work on MOS. I didn't know he left it to go to work on Godzilla. Hmm...non_amos wrote:Well, is Goyer history or not?:

That's the impression I got anyway, that he left MOS prematurely. I could be wrong. But wasn't someone brought in to work on the MOS script after Goyer? I don't have any links handy but I know I didn't imagine this either. So whether I'm right or not, it sure seemed that way 'reading between the lines'. Now it looks like more of the same? If so, what is the story with Goyer anyway?

Yeah, you're right, I remember now, someone was brought in to polish up the script. One of Snyder's usual colleagues. The 300 guy? Someone. Too lazy to Google it but I think you're right. Sorry to second guess you there.non_amos wrote:thecolorsblend wrote:I didn't keep up with the story but I thought Goyer had simply finished all his work on MOS. Isn't Del Toro making his own "giant monster" movie?
