Re: Teaser Trailer Thread
Those are my main arguments against adapting storylines like Doomsday or Knightfall, particularly in live action.Father Finian wrote:Guys, in none of the films are you going to find literal interpretations of a comic book. What may work in a comic doesn't always translate to the moving image on a big screen, or the narrative structure of what needs to be a crowd pleasing movie.
Most of the deviations Burton made were to either flesh out fairly hollow characters (ie, the Penguin and Catwoman) or to in some way or another serve the other characters (ie, the Joker).I can't see how one can criticize the Nolanverse for it's "liberties" when the Burtonverse, Donner, Smallville, etc, etc all have their own unique variations on the already many various comic interpretations.
Donner absolutely took liberties with the narrative and I've called him on it many times.
There's a strange perception that SV ran away and did it's own thing entirely with the material. (A) That's not entirely true; the majority of stuff going on in SV often had some kind of precedent in the comics and (B) even where it is true, per capita SV did it no more often and to no worse a result than other media. Plus, I would add that as SV was a TV show, it could get by with goofing something up as there was would be another episode the following week and thus another chance to get it right.
I'm giving it a free chance specifically because I'm a lot less invested in Superman comics now than I've ever been before. Had this happened a few years ago, I would've freaked out. On the other hand, I strongly suspect the outfit will eventually be changed back to the traditional version. But you're willing to keep an open mind about the redesign comic Superman because of the people involved??
I couldn't care less what the ticket buying public thinks. From what I've heard and seen so far, his version of Bane will be a complete joke. If the general public laps it up anyway, that's not my issue. There's no accounting for taste.Like Nolan hasn't found success getting DC characters to resonate with the ticket buying public in critically applauded movies. WTF more do you want to qualify as a "pass"????
I don't think I defend it, I just like it for what it was. I'm not a big expert on GL's mythos, I just enjoyed the movie as mostly brainless entertainment. That's what we call down here "rusted on". I'd have thought that a defender of "Green Lantern" could buy into just about anything....

I do still wonder why nolan picked bane for hardy. When he would have been more suited to black mask, riddler, hugo strange or others.

No, we can all see that just about everytime you post lately.....Green Lantern boy. Sorry, but your thoughts on that turkey once and for all convinced me when it comes to films you know shit. Your thoughts on STM were enough, but it's clear from your post above you are a hypocrite and can't see it. You fly your hypocrisy and double standards for all to see but yourself. Odd, very odd. You can't seriously suggest that "Batman Returns" is a better FILM than the last two from Nolan? Don't answer, that's what's called a rhetorical question because we already know your response.
Anyway, if you watched the trailer you can clearly see Bane still climbing steps as he faces Batman, with Batman getting ready to defend himself (fight) as Bane is stretching out to his full, towering size. Did it ever occur to you Brainiacs that Hardy may not be in the full appliance/costume?
You are a fuckin joke mate because you're calling out a film that's still a YEAR away based on rumor and your well know bias.

This is true.
BUT, when it comes to casting a character known for ONE THING, you can't toss it out the window and hope no one notices. Hardy is just too short and not convincing enough to play a character like Bane. Nolan has NEVER been one to rely on CGI in his films, so you need to understand where the skepticism originates from.

I have ALWAYS been one to call a spade a spade. You should know that by now.

Fuck NO I'm NOT. This stupid re-fuckover is going to spell the end of Superman as a comic book character.
Mark my words.
That's what we call down here "rusted on". I'd have thought that a defender of "Green Lantern" could buy into just about anything....
I've made my feelings on 'Green Lantern' VERY clear.
Seriously Father, don't lump everyone who has issue's with Nolan's choices into a single group.
So for you are 0 for 3 when it comes to me.

Riiight. Ever see "Inception"?
Did you happen to see the size of Bane in the trailer? Look at the clear difference between him and Batman.

What make you think I was directing that to you? It was Colors and Web I was clearly addressing.
Whatever, but hypocritical crap like the stuff Colors posts undermines this site's credibility, and it's members.

I have. And I noticed all of the PRACTICAL EFFECTS.

Yes. Camera tricks, just like I said earlier.
Nolan hired Tom Hardy because of familiarity, not because he was the best person for the part. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you.

Because I have expressed my issues with Nolan's Bane casting for 'The Dark Knight Rises'. Many times.

Wrong.

If throwing a hissy-fit and running away is how you want to do it, that's your prerogative. But keep in mind that you haven't exactly been a regular presence posting here in the first place.
