Casting For Supergirl Begins – What They Are Looking For
Posted on October 30, 2014 by Dan Wickline
This will come as no big surprise, but the casting for the new Supergirl series for CBS is being done by the same company that cast Arrow and The Flash. Being that Greg Berlanti is involved, the choice seemed obvious. So what are they looking for? According to TVLine they are currently casting two parts – Kara Zor-El (Kara Danvers) and her older foster sister Alexandra “Alex” Danvers.
For Kara Zor-El aka Kara Danvers, the show is eyeing Caucasian females, age 22 to 26, to play 24. As the series’ mythology goes, Kara at age 12 was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way.
The other lead role currently being cast is that of 26-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Kara’s gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded foster sister. Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture. Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sis, will face many challenges, both mundane and super.
Berlanti wrote the pilot script with Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and the two will executive produce the series along with Sarah Schechter.

Re: 'Supergirl' TV News
Sounds like they are making a SUPERMAN show, but since they can't use him, are using Supergirl instead:

Casting for CBS's upcoming superhero drama, Supergirl, is currently underway and with that a ton of new casting information has been released. Yesterday, we were able to see character casting descriptions for Kara & her foster sister Alex, which you can revisit by clicking HERE, and today we have descriptions for four more series regular roles, including a potential love interest, a potential ally, and two more than likely villains. Check it out below!CAT GRANT | The project is eyeing females in their 40s, open ethnicity, to play the founder of CatCo, a media conglomerate that Cat built from the ground up. Kara (Supergirl’s mild-mannered alter ego) will work as a personal assistant to Cat, who is described as “J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour.”
JAMES OLSEN | In his late 20s/early 30s, open ethnicity, James is a smart, worldly and (duh) attractive photographer for CatCo. Though an alpha male, his salt-of-the-earth nature elicits a huge ol’ crush from Kara.
WINSLOW ‘WYNN’ SCHOTT | This twentysomething tech whiz/Comic-Con stalwart toils for CatCo as a programmer, unaware of his own (toying?) potential. Unware of her secret, he carries a torch for Kara, whom he lives next door to.
HANK HENSHAW | As an upstart CIA agent, Hank grew obsessed with intergalactic intel. Now in his 40s and lording over the DEO (Department of Extra-Normal Operations), he is on high alert when Supergirl reveals herself, worried that her otherworldly abilities pose a threat to humankind.
Toyman? Cyborg Superman? Interesting additions! While there has still been no mention of whether or not we'll see Kara's famous cousin, it does sound like this show is heading in the right direction. Sound off with your thoughts below!

This actually sounds kind of interesting. I long ago consigned myself to the probability that we'll never see Cat Grant done right in media. And let's face it, it isn't like she's one of those iconic characters that you MUST "get right". So this works for me.comicbookmovie.com wrote:CAT GRANT | The project is eyeing females in their 40s, open ethnicity, to play the founder of CatCo, a media conglomerate that Cat built from the ground up. SUPERGIRL Deal Was Made Specifically With FLASH/ARROW Crossover In Mind
Arrow showrunner Marc Guggneheim says it's possible for CBS' Supergirl tv show to crossover with Arrow and The Flash. Executive producer Greg Berlanti reportedly has it in his contract that Supergirl can crossover with his other superhero dramas.

Apparently, when Greg Berlanti struck a deal with DC Entertainment to develop a Supergirl television series for CBS, he did so with forward-thinking in mind. Berlanti reportedly has it written in his contract that Supergirl can appear on Arrow and/or The Flash. This is scenario is more than possible, it's probable as CBS and Time Warner each own 50% of The CW. Another common thread among all three shows is the fact that Berlanti is also using Rappaport Casting to fill key supporting roles and main characters on each superhero TV show. Guggenheim also acknowledged the possibility of Supergirl appearing in Starling City and/or Central City in a recent interview. Realistically, Supergirl is the only show that could crossover with Arrow and Flash, given CBS' connection to The CW. The other DC TV shows may all fall under the DC Entertainment umbrella but Gotham, Constantine have different executive producers and air on television networks with no shared relationships. Another possible addition to the Supergirl/Arrow/Flash triangle is the forthcoming live-action Teen Titans drama being developed by TNT, which is also a subsidiary of Time Warner. However, that particular adaptation is being shepherded by someone other than Berlanti so the odds of it crossing over with Greg's trio are not as likely.
For now, the next key phase of development for CBS' Supergirl will be selecting the right actress to play the Last Daughter of Krypton. Could a casting announcement be made at the Winter TCA's which are currently convening as we speak?

This works for me. The TV universe needs a heavy-hitter. Supergirl can be that.

Re: 'Supergirl' TV News
Superman will appear in the first two episodes of Supergirl's second season. And let's face it, he'll be coming back probably for more episodes after that.
This is surprising. I'm amazed that this is being allowed to happen, tbh. There's been a lot of scuttlebut online about how WB is disappointed with BvS's box office grosses, re: It didn't make $1 billion worldwide. I don't think this proves that thesis. But it doesn't undermine it, that's for sure.
Who should be Superman? Well, Cavill is probably out. I can't picture that happening.
In a perfect world, someone would give Tom Welling a call and see what's up. I'm not ready to bet against that either.
But I think the most likely outcome is, big duh, they'll find someone new to play the role. It's implied that this Superman is a bit more seasoned. A veteran Superman. So you'd think it needs to be someone who looks like a veteran Superman. That's pretty much Tom Welling these days. But if it's not him, picture some other actor in his upper 30's. He'll probably show up for a casting call.
Honestly, I'm not sure how many "unknown" actors are in their upper 30's. Odds are it'll be someone we've heard of already.
So here we are.
