'Taken 2' This October

I hope they've got a good story for this. I really dug the 1st one but I hope this ain't just 'sequel-itis'. Milking it for all it's worth. We'll see.

He's become the Charles Bronson of this generation.

Cool as that might be, I think I'd want something a bit more mundane. "Hello, this is George Lucas (or whoever). TCB can't come to the phone right now so leave a message and he'll call you back. Bye!" Him or someone else with a recognizable voice. Although Neeson is pretty damn recognizable...

Well now, let's see. We've got Liam Neeson being tough, Famke Janssen being a hottie and Boris the Blade being a baddie.

I don't see anything wrong with any of this.

Watched this last night. Not nearly as riveting as the first film, but not a wholly "bad" film either.

Bryan Mills is only reactive in this film, whereas in the first he was mainly proactive. It's jarring what a difference that makes. But he's still Liam Neeson, and he still knows how to come across as an ass-kicking father.

A lot of the action is shot even worse than Nolan's 'Batman Begins', with a whole lot of far too close shaky cam. This makes it almost impossible to see what exactly is going on. The second to last kill of the film is the most egregious. Maggie Grace has much more to do in this one, and she actually pulls it off. She looks amazing, physically, as well. Them legs.... Famke Jansen unfortunately is basically the damsel in distress for 80% of the film. With a bag over her head.

All in all, if you waited for the DVD/Blu-Ray, I wouldn't blame you. I think this franchise has places it can go, to keep Mr. Mills the bad-ass we loved in the first 'Taken' film. Leave his family out of it next time, maybe make it one of his old CIA friends or the "pop singer" from the first one instead. Keep him moving forward, and not just dealing with what is thrown at him like in this film.
