'Iron Man 3' Heading To North Carolina
By Kellvin Chavez on September 22, 2011
Once the hype of 'The Avengers' dies down shortly after the film's release next May, most of its bigger name heroes are back to their own solo adventures, probably building up to their next group effort. It's a great plan Marvel has going. One of the veterans of the unit, Iron Man will be returning next in 'Iron Man 3.' The big detail of who's to direct, Shane Black has been sorted out. Something that hasn't is where he'll be directing from.
A close Marvel source who doesn't want to be named has told Latino Review that it's 90% likely that Iron Man's next Avenger-less outing will be shot in the Port City of Wilmington, North Carolina. It's said to be a massive affair with Marvel taking over 10 sound stages at Screen Gems studios. Sets are likely being built now as production crews have been spotted over the past week. Once the sets are completed this upcoming May, shooting will commence until June.
Wilmington doesn't have the same ring as Los Angeles or New York City, but it has been the shooting ground so to speak for many well-known films such as 'The Crow,' 'Firestarter,' 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' and 'The Jackal.' You can't forget 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' or one of the most reviled video game adaptations of all time, 'Super Mario Bros.,' which only gets better upon each viewing. Currently occupying the city are the television shows, 'One Tree Hill' and 'Eastbound and Down.'
All of the above films are worthy of some respect, but 'Iron Man 3' is definitely leading the class should this information prove to be true. As one of Marvel's most popular series, the budget is sure to be huge. 'Iron Man 2' had an estimated budget of $200 million. The third film is already set with a theatrical release date of May 3, 2013.

Teh-heh! I live within driving distance of Wilmington, NC. Oh, it's over 100 miles from me but definitely within range. I even have relatives in the Wilmington/Carolina Beach area although some are now deceased. My great-uncle/great-aunt lived in Carolina Beach for years & my family would go there on vacation sometimes & stay a few days when I was growing up. Of course they're dead now but the place is still special to me. However, it's been a few short years now since I last visited that area. I am wanting to go back though.
Believe me, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina is a much better beach to visit with much more to do but even it's within driving distance of Wilmington, over 50 miles I believe. Nevertheless Carolina Beach is better than no beach at all! And Wilmington has some really nice sights to take in, especially around the Waterfront. And downtown Wilmington really has a historic look to it. I remember seeing a cathedral that reminded me of Batman, i.e., the 1st Burton film.
I'm pretty certain I've seen (from a distance) at least some of the film studios there. I didn't see anything going on though. I do, however, know a couple of guys who made special trips there, more than once, to be extras on the set of ONE TREE HILL. And yeah, they were telling the truth. I used to work with them on a part-time job so I knew the air date. Sure, enough, there they were in the background on a basketball court!
Man! I'd luuuvvvv to get in on the IRON MAN 3 action!

This is pretty much repeating the previous info, I guess the difference being that this is an 'official' confirmation.
Iron Man 3 Confirmed for North Carolina Shoot
by Silas Lesnick
October 27, 2011
Initially rumored last month, Marvel's armored hero is headed to North Carolina. The Associated Press has word that Marvel Studios will film Iron Man 3 at Wilmington's Screen Gems Studios.
The state, which is thematically appropriate as the birthplace of aviation, pulled in the production due to its generous tax incentives. With pre-production beginning soon, the shoot is expected to create 550 crew jobs and more than 1,000 additional talent positions.
Little is known about the plot of the film, but Shane Black will take the director's seat (replacing the first two films' Jon Favreau) and will lend his writing talents to the script by Drew Pearce. At this time, Robert Downey Jr. is the only confirmed cast member, though it's highly likely that Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle will be returning as well.
Downey will next play Tony Stark on the big screen as part of the superhero ensemble, The Avengers, arriving May 4, 2012. Iron Man 3 is, meanwhile, targeting a May 3, 2013 release.

Wow, Marvel Studios officially has a better track record of job growth than Our Beloved Executive. How 'bout that?

I'm down that way. Just don't know if I'll get the opportunity to actually do anything about it.

There will be references to the Avengers in Iron Man 3, but this will be Tony's movie.
* 'Is Iron Man 3 going to take place during Xmas?' Shane Black - 'It's negotiable.'
* Black wants Jon Faverau to return as Happy Hogan.
* Black thought that the end of The First Avenger: Captain America movie was a big mess.
* On not giving away too much Iron Man spoilers: "Do you want to know what happens when you die? Just wait till you'll die."
* On his IM3 co-writer, Drew Pearce: "These British people...they are really are something! We should have more of them!"
* Shane Black on green screen: "The biggest problem is the actors. Because picturing a non-existent set can make for flat performances."
* His main IM3-related focus is "realism and the potential for evil in all men".
