Big changes are coming to Marvel’s Ghost Rider this June, and the biggest one? Sex changes, as a new Ghost Rider gets the flaming motorbike… A female Ghost Rider.
Marvel held another one of their “Next Big Thing” phone calls to talk about June’s upcoming new reader friendly .1 issue, as well as the ongoing series by writer Rob Williams and Artist Matt Clarke. And we’ll let Williams talk about the concept of the new series:
“Everyone recognizes that Johnny Blaze is the main Ghost Rider, and he’s spent his entire time as the Ghost Rider feeling like it’s a curse, something he wants to get rid of desperately,” said Williams. “Spinning out of the events of Fear Itself, a mysterious figure gives me a Faustian pact – because every Ghost Rider story has a Faustian pact. He can get rid of the Ghost Rider, but someone else he doesn’t know will get to be the Ghost Rider.”
Williams recognizes the inspiration in the Twilight Zone episode “The Box” (and before that, the Richard Matheson story, “Button, Button”) but clarified that Johnny, “doesn’t get a million dollars.”
And what about this new, mystery person who gets to be ol’ Flame Head?
“It’s a girl,” continued Williams. “This is someone who has been trained their entire life to become the Ghost Rider. Whereas Johnny Blaze’s Ghost Rider was a motorcycle stuntman, this is someone who has been trained to become a warrior. It’s a totally different approach.”

In the plus column, the goth community has a brand new interest in this property.

Re: Ghost Rider To Be A Woman?
I just have to shake my head & wonder what comics are coming to these days!
Rewind back to me growing up in the 70's. Comics were AWESOME! DC, Marvel, you name it. Many comics were 'self-contained' stories, i.e., even Superman comics were like 'one-shots' if you will, whether it be the main title or Action Comics. You could simply read individual issues & it wasn't required that you have a road map to do it! There was no Crisis upon Crisis upon Crisis. There was no never-ending 'soap opera' content that you ended up having to buy all related comics to get the full story. Or just wait for the trade paperback. Instead, back then, you could simply enjoy the comics for what they were, comics. The stories and artwork were great without being 'over-the-top'. Even a character like Ghost Rider had decent comics.
Fast forward to today. Never-ending Crisis upon Crisis upon Crisis. Continuous soap opera cliff-hanger crapola. And garbage like a female Ghost Rider! Not to mention Superman's new 'suit', if you can call it that! And writing & art that doesn't deserve to be in the pages of a comic! Yeah, I'd say the guys from yesteryear knew what they were doing. Today's crew? Not so much! Kinda makes me glad I'm not buying comics!

Oh yeah, absolutely. Self-mutilating, mopey goth kids? Next big thing, I'm telling you.Apologist Puncher wrote:thecolorsblend wrote:In the plus column, the goth community has a brand new interest in this property.

Um, or not.
Shit, a female Ghost Rider...
On the other hand, Marvel's track record with me in both comics and film is a hell of a lot better than DC/WB so it's all relative.

Design wise the female gr looks ok. I wonder how the story will turn out. And if the male one will stiill be around. I don't know what's up with the character in the comics.

Re: Ghost Rider To Be A Woman?
Last time I saw him was in Daredevil's Shadowland crossover where the possessed Daredevil pretty much totally fucked him up. Didn't think it was permanent though (although keep in mind I know basically nothing about GR).webhead2006 wrote:Design wise the female gr looks ok. I wonder how the story will turn out.
