Re: New "Green Lantern' TV Spot
Yeah, I'll probably go see it. Hell, I'll probably see it opening weekend. But the man-crush Geoff Johns has had on Hal Jordan (and which comes at the expense of Superman's prominence in the DCU) has really tainted a lot of my perceptions of GL.
Ah well. Looks like it'll be a fun movie.

The goofy "humor" might end up bothering me. But I was never a Green Lantern fan to begin with, so if it sucks I won't really care all that much.

My investment in it is primarily in how it affects other DC properties. Like it or not, Batman is currently the only game in town. I think it's clear WB wants to use the DC stable of characters as their tentpole prospects going forward but, going strictly by the numbers, it ain't encouraging so far. You've got Singerman, Catwoman, The Losers, Steel, Jonah Hex, Watchmen and others. Maybe those movies just flat out sucked, maybe they weren't good representations of those characters, maybe the budgets for them weren't what they could've and should've been, whatever, but they didn't exactly knock it out of the park in terms of money.Apologist Puncher wrote:The goofy "humor" might end up bothering me. Of course, you could argue that in this age of video game tie-ins and DVD sales, box office is perhaps not the all-important factor it used to be. Not saying that I totally buy that... but you could make the argument.
Anyway. Point is that if GL tanks it at the box office, it can't bode too well for adapting other DC characters.

Re: New "Green Lantern' TV Spot
I think the one area that Marvel Studios has "trumped" the Bros. Warner when it comes to their films is they DON'T hire directors who want to make THEIR version of the character. They respect what has made that particular character popular enough to have lasted this long, and expand on it. WB seems to hire directors who say "Well, that 40-50 years of stories are fine and all, but I am going to have them do ______ and _____, because I think it's BETTER". And what do you get when that happens? The aforementioned Steel. Catwoman. Jonah Hex. Singerman Peeps.
IF 'Green Lantern' fails, they have NO ONE to blame but THEMSELVES.

Did you see that clip tonight of the Green Lantern film during one of the commercial breaks on SV? Was that the official trailer? I'm unsure but it lasted like 2 minutes. It looked awesome! To me it looked so good that it's got me now excited about seeing this film!
OTOH, a few commercials later, they were showing 'Dylan Does Dogs' but thankfully, that only lasted 'a few seconds'.

Re: New "Green Lantern' TV Spot
non i believe it was same clip as post above. but it was great to see it during smallville episode tonight. I do hope green lantern is a success for wb. So it will help show them that the dc characters can hit the market and get the crowds going to them. I definately like to see flash, aquaman, martian manhunter, etc..... characters finally get there chance to shine in a film. As long as they are treated the right way. I too agree marvel studios have been doing/approaching things alot better then wb has. I just hate that its taken wb so long to get things moving. I really hated that they been sitting on their hands all these yrs. They could have easily gotten, ww, flash, maybe aquaman or others out in this past decade of films. Inside of doing crap like Sr, catwoman, and jonah hex.
