Warner Bros. moves Superman to 2013
Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel' to hit theaters June 14, 2013
By Dave McNary
Superman will be back on June 14, 2013 with Warner Bros. selecting that date for the opening of "Man of Steel" -- six months later than what had been tentatively planned.

Studio made the announcement Thursday. Warner Bros. had said previously that the release was planned for December 2012 but had never set a specific date.

"Man of Steel" is the third title set for June, 2013. Disney has set "Monsters University for June 21, 2013, and Uni has "R.I.P.D." due to open a week later.

Zack Snyder's directing for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Pic's due to begin shooting this summer in Pittsburgh with Brit thesp Henry Cavill set to play Superman with Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Michael Shannon also starring.

David Goyer penned the script and developed the story with Christopher Nolan, who has kept plot details under wraps. Charles Roven will produce along with Emma Thomas, Nolan and Deborah Snyder. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips will exec produce for Legendary.

I wonder if the delay is really about the script.

The winter schedule was pretty crowded. Plus, you could view a summer release as a vote of confidence from WB. It also amounts to an extra five or six months worth of post production than Snyder had originally bargained for. That can't be a bad thing for the final product, right? So yeah, this could be very good news.

Just read the news myself. Which I think is good in two fronts. One gives more time for post production/reshoots for the film. Then secondly woth all the other films due out next nov/dec period would have probably been a bad place for the film.

OH FUCK!!! Mad Mad Mad

Well I can understand winter is not a good season to release a "Superman" film maybe in the fall aleast but now after hearing that it's been pushed further for summer 2013 I just felt like banging my head on my desk!!! I hope they push it to early 2013 instead like maybe somewhere between January and March aleast cause were not getting any younger every year!

Does this has something to do with re-writing of the script or is it facing competition the real issue?

I doubt its the rewrites since reports of filming starting in a week or two. Its probably due to the crowded winter 12 schedule.

Actually, I think it's about putting out the best possible product they can.

But the suit, and the reaction to it, is going to be the biggest indicator as to how well this film is going to play out.

Mixed Feelings. I'm certain this will give them the proper amount of time to get this film 'just right' & even better than 'just right'. If it came out in December 2012 as originally thought, then it might have been a 'rushed production'. Like GREEN LANTERN, huh, AP? Wink

OTOH, I'm also disappointed as I wanted it to come out next year. Now I've got to wait nearly 2 years! That's what I don't like! Hopefully it's worth the wait.

On an unrelated note, AP, what was that 'locked thread' about concerning the 'spammer'? When I saw that the other day, I had no idea what was originally posted to have provoked such a strong response. What was it anyway, foreign porn links or something? It just seemed mighty swift to have been the usual 'I like watch dat program to' crap that I'm seeing here at times.

I also like to point out that this causes me to dislike if not hate Bryan Singer for not doing a "Superman" reboot film rather than a VAGUE continuation of the first two Donner films which lead to where we are today! If he had rebooted Superman from stratch in the first place even though it wouldn't turn out the same way Zack Synder would have made it we would have had a Superman film series for the current era and we already be having a third film by now along with possible DC based adaptations along the way which would possibly lead to a "Justice League" film just in time to compete against "The Avengers" film. Aleast we wouldn't have to wait until 2012... Oh wait, my bad... 2013 to get a "Superman" film rebooted by someone else!

With that being said... THANKS A FUCKING LOT BRYAN!!!

I don't think a full reboot would've done drastically better business. But even if it had, we'd be stuck with BJ The Bartender in the role. Our current situation is far from ideal but the best thing for Superman is for Bryan Singer to be as far away from the property as possible.

With a New Writer Being Brought on Makes it Sound the Film is already in Trouble!

Post  Rduce on Sat Jul 23, 2011 12:03 am

Superman: Man of Steel to soar in June 2013
By David Bentley on Jul 22, 11 12:04 PM
DESPITE earlier hints that the next Superman film would hit screens in December 2012 - though no firm date in that month was ever announced - Warner Bros has now revealed it will be released on June 14, 2013.

No reason was given for the date being pushed back by six months but a June launch would avoid the December competition from The Lone Ranger, Django Unchained, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (the first part of the two-film Tolkien adaptation) and Life of Pi.

Director Zack Snyder has just brought on board a new writer - Kurt Johnstad - so that could be a factor in the delay. In addition, Warner Bros may be taking more time to perfect the film in the wake of the financial and critical failure of Green Lantern, which has only made $147million worldwide on a budget of $200million (plus $150million for marketing).

Man of Steel will now be sandwiched between Marvel's dual offerings that year: Iron Man 3 on May 3 and Thor 2 on July 26.

As ever, it seems the douchewads from Superman Supersite have some kind of religious fucking objection to linking to the original article. But in any case, here we go, a little bit from Cavill, re: Superman.

Superman Supersite wrote:"Man of Steel" actor Henry Cavill spoke about his starring role in the Zack Snyder Superman reboot during the "Immortals" panel at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con.

When asked about the film's release date being pushed back 6 months, MTV reports that Cavill stated, "They broke it to me gently. I was just told the other day. It's OK, it's nothing to do with me. That's stuff which I have no control over. I just focus on the character and do my job."

Although Cavill remained relatively tight-lipped about the upcoming film, he did state that the story is "one of the best scripts I've ever read."

He went on to say that he's "prepared enough" but anxious to start production. "I'm really raring to go," stated Cavill. "It's exciting, humbling, and about time to get started."

"You make a choice," he said of his conscious decision to take on the iconic role knowing there's bound to be baggage the follows. "Whether you focus on the - and I hate the word, celebrity aspect or not — I have chosen not to [think about that]. I know I can't make everyone happy."

"Man of Steel" is set to begin filming in the coming weeks in Plano, IL and will fly into theaters on Friday, June 14, 2013.

Seesh why can't they link the original article huh. And really of course cavill not going to say much on film. Being likely under a nda agreement and production just starting up in coming weeks. Same with release date thing. Not his problem to worry about that all studio control there.

No shit. They would've been better off asking about other stuff. "Are you going to be involved in the upcoming Plano shoot?" "Roundabout how long is principal photography expected to last?" "Have you referred to any comics in preparation for the part? ... Which ones?" Hell, it's probably 50/50 that he can even answer some of those but seeking plot info from the guy is the kind of circle jerk, glad-handing, superficial Q&A bullshit I expect from comics-illiterate mainstream news outlets. Why not ask something a bit more off the beaten path that isn't likely a spoiler? Fucking retarded...

Totally colors, if I was able to ask him any questions it would have been like production stuff. Like how long plano shoot going to be, where els are you set to film, how did costume tests/fittings go. And then ya what comics did you look into while researching for the role and all.

True dat. But what I was talking about was the thing from the Superman Supersite. I mean, what, do we REALLY expect Cavill to blow the entire plot to some random douchenuts "reporter" at Comicon? Gimme a break.

Probably so. I'll never understand how that guy charmed so many Superman fans, Apologist or otherwise. A lot of folks HATED Singerman but had no real beef with Blandon. I'll never understand that as he always exemplified every poor decision (of which there were many) made regarding Singerman.

Because they bought into the falsehood that BJ Routh looked and sounded like Christopher Reeve.

What an insult to REAL Superman fans everywhere....

Never understood that either. You go back and watch the Star Wars prequels and you can kind of buy Ewan McGregor as a younger Alec Guiness. The "triangle" is pretty close; the nose, upper lip and lower eyes are pretty similar. If those are similar, your eye will view two people as resembling one another. McGregor's mannerisms and accent thus only complete the illusion that his face naturally has. It really was good casting for reasons obvious and not so obvious.

But Routh? He has NONE of that shit going for him. He has a TOTALLY different nose, totally different lips, different set of the eyes. More broadly, the brow is COMPLETELY different. I guess the shape of their heads was fairly similar but EVERYTHING else was different.

They did what they had to do to rationalize accepting him as Superman. They were "grateful" for that shit sandwich, and still won't let it go to this day.

I believe Henry Cavill's comments to MTV may have already been referenced but here's a link to a video in case it hasn't:

http://www.mtv.com/videos/movies/675594/henry-cavill-reacts-to-superman-delay.jhtml#id=1667658

Since it's not Youtube I don't know how to embed it properly. However, here are some Youtube vids I found at duh Homopage:

I get the impression we don't have to worry about Cavill. Or the suit!
