Seriously?

Yes. It's true. It sincerely isn't the dumbest idea for a Superman story I've ever come across (I've read a lot of Silver Age comics in my day) but it's somewhere in the top ten.

What were they thinking, and what were they drinking?

It does sound like a pretty stupid storyline idea and I don't even know all the details.

Basically, they took Superman out of both of his books (Superman and Action Comics) for this big, huge, long, fucking retarded mega-storyline that went on for a year and a half or some such shit. No Clark, no Daily Planet interplay like that, etc.

Afterwards, for this Grounded storyline, JMS (y'know, the guy who wrote Earth One?) had the big idea of "hey! Let's take Superman out of Action Comics for ANOTHER years and follow his ass as he walks around America on FOOT! For twelve issues! It'll be brilliant!"

Some people think JMS got shit-canned off the book. I don't believe that because his replacement is CONTINUING the storyline! JMS apparently really did leave the title to focus his energies on the Earth One sequel.

Remember what we were talking about the other day in that other thread about the rockstar shit that's killing comics? THIS is Exhibit A in my case, dude.

And I should add that JMS wrote Superman (in the Grounded arc) like a prick! Quoting Tennyson or some fucking guy, I forget, and generally acting like a pseudo-intellectual douchenozzle.

Wow, that sounds like something that could get ME into comics!!
