Given how prolific these types of movies are, I've been wanting something like this for a while now. I'll be there.

AP, so the film is really good then? My neighbor, you know the one who tries to watch everything online for free regardless of the poor quality? Even if the film is in 3-D at the theater? Well, he brought this film up in conversation about a week ago. He didn't recommend. He talked about the whole 'shaky cam' thing. I guess he meant like how CLOVERFIELD was made. I think that's what turned him off. But is it really like that or is that just an exaggeration? I know I liked the trailer so I'd like to go see it if I can but the way things usually work out, it's doubtful I'll get to go.

It is a "found footage" film, of course. But that doesn't affect the overall quality of the film.
There are parts where it goes all "shaky cam", but they don't dominate the film. And unlike 'Cloverfield', which I liked, they don't cheap out on the special effects. When these guys start flying, it is probably the BEST flight effect I have seen in a film yet. Very realistic.
And wait until you see the end.

Max Landis Returns to Script ‘Chronicle 2′
Posted on Thursday, March 8th, 2012 by Russ Fischer
Briefly: Fox liked the way that Chronicle turned out — the low-budget ‘teens with powers’ film has made over $100m worldwide so far, and even when promotional costs other sundry expenses are factored in, that’s pretty damn good for a film that cost $12m to make.
Director Josh Trank has said he is unsure about directing a sequel, and was just linked to Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff Venom. But Fox is going ahead with the first stage of sequel production anyway, and has hired original screenwriter Max Landis to write Chronicle 2.
Unfortunately, that hire is the only data we’ve got right now. No clues as to storyline, or how the sequel will jump off from the events of the first film. Will Alex Russell be called back to reprise his character? Or will the sequel follow other people who are empowered by the mysterious energy source found by the kids in the first movie? The nature of the power-giving stuff in Chronicle was left deliberately unclear, as it really isn’t the focus of the film, but that lack of clarity could now help create new characters for a sequel. Given the end of the first movie, Chronicle 2 is probably going to need a few new characters. [Deadline]

I liked it a lot, despite having a hard time sympathizing with the Andrew character. I kinda liked how hammy it got near the climax.
"ANDREW! DON'T DO IT!! YOU'RE A GOOD PERSON! NOOOOO!!!"
"YYYYYYYEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!"

There is that. He definitely went into "melodramatic overdrive" there at the end.
And Andrew was sympathetic-ish, but they should have fore-shadowed what his potential "dark side" was a bit more.

I'd say before he got the powers they could have put more emphasis into that, otherwise it's implying that it was the powers that corrupted him and I don't think that's what the filmmakers were trying to tell.

It's possible that it would have been more appropriate to make Andrew a "nice guy" before the powers. That way they could have done the "Absolute power corrupts Absolutely" thing.
Instead, with people acting like bullying is a recent phenomenon, they went the route they went.
Still a very good movie.

It is. I have a problem with that "absolute power corrupts absolutely", cuz it's been done wrong so many times concerning good characters becoming evil. Still, the film was very well made and I liked how they used the found footage concept to its advantage (with the exception of the cell phone/ipad bits). I'm never crazy about the gimmick of found footage, but CHRONICLE is a major exception.

Even though I found the "coincidence" of the major characters coming across the monster over and over and over again a little too cheesy, I actually like 'Cloverfield'.
But 'Chronicle' is a definite improvement, and the with exception to some of the take-off's, the flight scenes were pretty amazing.
