New Superman theme for reboot!

Since the next Superman film is expected to be a reboot (And it very well should be!) we can all assume that the new film will have a new theme which means no more of the John Williams theme or a alternate version of it for that matter like in "Superman Returns" a.k.a. "Singerman"! Personally I go for either Danny Elfman ("Batman", "Batman Returns" & "Spider-Man 1 & 2") or even James Newton Howard ("Batman Begins", "The Dark Knight" & "Green Lantern") to compose the theme for the reboot!

What do you guys think?

James Newton Howard has his hits and his misses. His Batman scores are definite misses. They're bland, generic and could be coupled against any action movie without any significant loss.

As the reverse of that, Danny Elfman has never really impressed me much apart from his Batman scores. He had the odd good cue here and there for the Spider-Man scores he did but largely he's always left me cold.

For the reboot, I'd actually prefer Gavin Greenaway. There are passages and movements within this track...



... that definitely suggest he's not a bad choice for a Superman score.

No matter what, the Williams theme needs to go. It's great, I love it, but keeping it for the reboot would be like Nolan keeping the Elfman Batman main title for his films. Cool as it may well have been, Nolan knew he needed something new. Superman desperately needs everything to be new.

Totally a new theme is very fitting. There are many good composers today that could make a new unique sound for supes. Also for the folks who would love williams theme. Either have it partially playing in some scene. Like say if there were a parade for supes. Or just have it be a special bonus track in soundtrack. To what kj star trek did. Created a new theme song at start. But used classic at the closing credits. I hope they pick a good composer and they make some good musical choices. Also perferably for supes, I would stick to musical scores. And only add any modern music for background noise in a scene or two. But it is time to let it go.

I'm 1000% confident that there will be a new theme.

yea it likely will be either it will be someone nolans have worked with or snyder speaking of which who has been composers snyder has worked work?

Well that isn't a offical news item from nolan or snyder on the theme. Just zimmers opinion on it. Though it is likely going to be new any way nolan did it with bats why wouldn't supes get a new sound now too. But the williams theme could probably be used in some way I wouldn't be suprised more like marketing or just on soundtrack.

He did work with nolan onthe two bat flicks and likely will be on the third. The article was just his thoughts on superman since he is assoicated with nolan. It could be him on supes, someone totally new, or someone snyder worked with. But we are way to early to talk about composer on the film. Likely one wont be hired to after film been shot.

Oops, I'm sorry, I didn't know there was a theme in any of those movies. Bleh, the fact that he's doing the score is hardly reassuring to me.

He never said he was going to be scoring superman. The interview was just him talking about working on the batman movies with nolan and likely will be back for thirs. Then he talked about his views on williams theme. I don't think he will be on superman theme. Probably will be a composer snyder has worked with or someone else. But we probably wont know to late next yr/early 2012 once film is in post production who will be on supes.

Really? Because we knew in pretty short order who would be scoring Batman Begins, Singerman and others. That's one of those details that needs to get worked out relatively early on in the game.

In any case, and whatever my views on Zimmer, at least this indicates that Williams theme will be put out to pasture. Personally, I think it's dangerous to associate these types of characters with a particular main title or actor or what have you. The characters are bigger than that and should be treated accordingly. Good to know Zimmer's head will be in the game if and when he gets the gig.

Well I was just saying some times we don't usually hear who is composer on the a film to its in post production and a few month proir to release. Unless its a tim burton/spielberg deal were they usually only work with one person all the time. Hopefully who ever lands the cmposer gig for supes will give us a cool theme and good musical scores in the film.

You know, I watched the Star Trek "quasi-reboot" today, and I think Michael Giacchino could do something interesting for Superman:

Looks like we now who will be composing for superman. Was just reading an article at another site where hans zimmer announced to ann thompson of variety I believe he will score both tdkr for nolan and superman for snyder.

Ah man!!! You beat me to it! Anyway yeah I heard the news over at Superherohype.com but still curious on how the theme will turn out and I wonder if it will top John William's theme or be just as good!

So it sounds like Snyder is considering not going with John Williams' theme as we suspected. However, the rest of the article goes on with the writer's opinion of how they should 'change' Superman, which I don't agree with! Been there, done that, UNACCEPTABLE!
