Well since the film is out now and doing well internationally and state side. Let's talk sequel. What characters/storylies would you like to see. Also to start things up here is a rumor:

THOR: The Dark World Empty Re: THOR: The Dark World

Post  thecolorsblend Tue May 17, 2011 11:03 pm

I know pretty much jackshit about Thor from the comics. That said, I'd like to see Thor and Ultron throw. If nothing else, it'd be an opportunity for Thor to give his famous "Ultron, we would have words with thee" line, one of the biggest "oh shit" moments in all comics history.

More broadly, the Avengers movie has (justifiably) occupied a lot of the Marvel films up to this point. I have no beef with that but once we get past the Avengers film, I'd like to see the Marvel films become a bit more self-contained. It's all well and good to establish that they all live in a shared universe but ultimately the individual characters should headline their solo films. A bit more emphasis should be placed on that in post-Avengers films/sequels, in my opinion.

That said, Thor struck a pretty balance in that respect so I don't question Branagh's ability to tell a slightly more self-contained story.

THOR: The Dark World Empty RE: THOR 2 news & rumors thread!

Post  non_amos Wed May 18, 2011 12:45 am

I don't think I'd even given Ultron much thought in regard to the Avengers film, which is unusual considering I used to read the Avengers comics fairly regularly back in the day. Just who are the villains for the film anyway? I'd say LOKI is a given; however, just him alone I don't think will carry a film of this magnitude. Originally there was the idea of the HULK but it sounds more like he's gonna be their ally (except for the possible battle with Thor). I remember reading SUPER-SKRULL somewhere but ain't they more of a FANTASTIC 4 villain? From the plot synopsis of the film, it sounds like Nick Fury is gathering the heroes for something of epic proportions so I just wanna know who.

The thing about Ultron though is that wasn't he created by Henry Pym AKA take-your-pick: ANT-MAN, GIANT-MAN, GOLIATH? I remember Ultron even calling Pym 'Dad'. While trying to kill him of course! Anyway, Ant-Man & Wasp are conspicuously absent from the line-up for this film. Since Marvel Studios are pretty much FOR 'respecting the canon', I don't see how they'd use Ultron without at least Pym being present. Sure, they could come up with another explanation but they'd do so at the risk of creating a whole new breed of apologists! Laughing

But the character would be awesome if they chose to go that route. Another thing I thought of is what if they developed that awesome story from the 70's that I believe Jim Shooter was responsible for? I don't remember what it was called now but it involved some previous Marvel character who was exposed to something cosmic & then became very 'god-like', so much so that he even concealed his existence, that is, until his throwdown with the Avengers. Then no one couldn't help but notice! But ya know what? If you really think about it, it sounds like Shooter 'riffed' very hard on STAR TREK for that one! Specifically one of the earliest episodes 'WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE'. That came to mind while typing. In both stories, both 'gods' even took a 'mate' & then, they all 'died' Man! Shooter must've really ripped off Star Trek for that one! I haven't read that story in years & it's been a while since I saw that episode but it's like my mind just put the '2 & 2 together' like they were 'like-subjects'! Even if Shooter was influenced by that though, nevertheless I recall that storyline being very popular at the time. Whether they'd consider it for a film though is another story.

THOR: The Dark World Empty Re: THOR: The Dark World

Post  webhead2006 Wed May 18, 2011 4:15 pm

Ya I too no nex to nothing on thor characters. But I think as the article I posted amora would be a fine choice. As for ultron that is avengers/antman villain right. I could see maybe ultron being a sequel villain for avengers. After they get antman finally off the ground. It would be nice for avengers if wasp/antman get mentions. So we know things are leading into the, in the solo film. Would be great if we got antman/thor 2/ironman 3 for 2013. As for why antman/wasp not being inavengers ya its a bit off but I guess they want to just focus on that solo film. Heck they been trying to get film going for what 3-4 yrs now right. So maybe original plan was to have had antman out like back in 2010 so then character is set to go for avengers.

Hey man, I know fuck-all about most Marvel properties. From the sounds of it, you're more in the know than I am.

Another name has been thrown into the mix for directing thor 2:

I don't know her work. So I don't have much to judge her on. But could be a interesting pick.

Guillermo Del Toro is perfect for 'THOR'.

Seriously, he would be my #1 choice after Branagh.

Heck ya he would be a great pick in my book too. But man his schedule is so dam busy with other films, and also getting the hulk show off the grounds.

Hmm. If her wiki entry is anything to go by, she's nobody... but at the same rate, she doesn't really seem A-list either.

What, was Guillermo del Toro too busy or something? Did he even get a call?

I dont know how i really feel about her myself too. Never watched the tv work she done or that film monster she did. I do wish her the best of luck with thor and i hope she knocks it out of the park. Sure would have been great if we got someone like del toro or even if kenneth stayed on. But she must have done something marvel brass liked. So i havent been pissed with who marvel has gotten on there films yet. So lets see if she keeps up the good record.

THOR: The Dark World Empty Re: THOR: The Dark World

These recent developments concern me. For one, just who is Patty Jenkins? And why won't Branagh return? As for Del Toro, did you see his work on the Hellboy films? Hellboy 2 especially had a very visual appeal! You may also want to check out PANS LABYRINTH to see more of his work. The dude would totally rock Thor & Asgard & all of that! What will Patty do?

Pushing the release date back also concerns me. Now, in the case of MOS, maybe it's for the best so that we don't get a 'rushed' product. However, in Thor's case, I'm not so sure. Thor will be coming off of the AVENGERS for one thing. And Thor started off the summer season this year! Fans are already questioning, shouldn't Thor be a summer film?! And with IRON MAN 3 being a summer film, I think Thor ought to stay put! Who cares about THE LONE RANGER?!

My fear is that Marvel/Disney is finally gonna 'drop the ball' on their franchises because of asinine moves like this. How long before more politics or whatever gets in the way of said projects? Or someone high-up doesn't like this? Or that? The corporate buy-out' thing isn't always good. Just ask Ted Turner.

well the push on release date was probably more cause disney finally has that lone ranger film on track and didnt want thor 2 and it out at same time. that is what i think is up there. As for patty sure i wouldnt have picked her myself. But marvel studios has done well so far with its director's. So untill we see something not good going on then i would be more worried. For all we know patty could turn out to be a gem. Only time will tell there.

I too would have liked toro but isnt his slate pretty booked up for next few yrs with a bunch of films plus the hulk tv show. I do hope this jenkin lady does well and gets the character right. But so far marvel has made the right calls in things so i hope that will still be the case now.

Was he squeezed out though? Because if he was, that'd be freakin retarded. Brannagh isn't the kind of director you get rid of, esp not for a second stringer like this new chick.

Ya i dont recall if we e ver did get real reason for kenneth leaving in first place. From all interviews and what we saw during production didnt look like he had any issues with marvel brass, or the actors, and all that. Maybe he just wanted to do one movie and move on to other projects heck there is plently of directors/actors like that. Plus he could still end up being a producer on the flick and giving out pointers to patty. I still havent seen any of her work, but reading comments about her she seems like she has a good head on her shoulders and has good drive and scope of things. Plus so far marvel has made good calls with directors and direction for there films. I dont think they would throw that all away now. This isnt fox or wb mucking around with things.

*SIGH*.......

Jon Favreau makes 'Iron Man', and it is a HUGE success. Terrence Howard has a contract paying him more than everyone in the cast for sequels. Howard refuses a pay cut, and is replaced by Don Cheadle. They let Favreau make 'Iron Man 2', which is ALSO a huge success, but have to pay Favreau more money. They knew the fans would shit if he wasn't directing the sequel, which they would have. Discussions for 'Iron Man 3' come around, and Favreau unexpectedly leaves the project, KNOWING he would make a shit-ton of $$$ by directing a 3rd one. Why?

He didn't. Marvel decided to "Go another way". Who do they hire? Shane Black, a man who has YET to direct a big-budget motion picture since 2005! Why again?

Because he is CHEAP.

Read between the lines, and you'll be surprised at what you learn.

'THOR' was a hit. Bringing Branagh back means he gets paid more. Why do that, when they can hire a "competent" director and pay them less than they paid Branagh for the first one??

Trying their hardest to pay as little as possible to their talent is what Marvel Films has been about. Ask Howard, Favreau, Norton and Jackson if you don't believe me.
