John Romita Jr. Says Kick Ass 2 Films This Summer For Release Next May, Hopes To Direct Animated Segment
Written on May 6, 2012 by Brendon Connelly in Film, Recent Updates
There’s some talk of Kick Ass 2 coming our way, and for once, it’s not Mark Millar doing the talking.
John Romita Jr., the illustrator of the comic books, has been attempting a World Record signing session in Vegas this morning, and it’s being broadcast to the world via UStream – we’re streaming it at the foot of this post. A Little Bleeder has not only been tuned in watching and listening, he got to ask Romita a question through Facebook.
And like the rest of the world, he wanted to know what’s going on with the plans for the Kick Ass 2 movie.
Now, this is the big surprise: Romita said that the deals have just been done and production will press ahead this Summer on the shoot, ready for a release date next May.
Chloe Moretz will be busy shooting Carrie from the start of June, and is looking to fit The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea onto her calendar somewhere this year. This doesn’t mean she won’t, or can’t be in Kick Ass 2 – if they back-end her stuff, for example, she could join them at some point in August, if not even later. It depends on the size of her role in the screen version of the story, amongst many other factors.
But perhaps she won’t be in the film. Perhaps the new director and co-writer won’t be the only fresh blood. Perhaps Chloe is now too old to play Hit Girl anyway?
We’ll find out soon enough, I’m sure.
Romita also said that he’d like to take charge on an animated sequence for the film but the details of that are still up in the air. Here’s hoping they get locked down soon enough.
Well, there you go. Thank you Little Bleeder! And stay tuned for imminent news on who is actually going to direct the thing now that Matthew Vaughn has stepped back to co-write and produce…

If nothing else, it's a reminder of the difficulties of casting children in movie roles.

Re: 'Kick Ass 2'
I did enjoy the first film. So hopefully the sequel turns out to be a good film. But ya so true with kid actors for films or tv shows telling a slower pace story. Which sucks for that cause it either leads to recasting, or killing off characters.

Actually, the problem is more her availability rather than her growing-up.

I guess it would've helped if I'd quoted the part that piqued my interest. The bit where the dude says "Perhaps Chloe is now too old to play Hit Girl anyway?" is what did it.Apologist Puncher wrote:thecolorsblend wrote:If nothing else, it's a reminder of the difficulties of casting children in movie roles.

Since this is about as close as we'd otherwise get, Apologists and Nolanites go on and on about how "realistic" Batman is and shit. Well, if there ever was to be a dude who does what Batman does, Big Daddy's assault on that warehouse from the first Kick Ass is most likely what he'd be like.

What's crazy is, she's 15. But she don't look 15:
At all.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Kick-Ass 2′ Video Preview!
Posted on 9.18.12 by Da7e
Hello!
I’ve conquered the Brooklyn Fall Head Cold to bring you the latest on ‘Kick-Ass 2!’
Mark Millar has given me some great comic stories, Mark Millar has also frustrated me by the lengths he is willing to go to to provoke a reaction from me in those stories. It’s his call to make and it’s my call as to if I do or do not like it.
What I know I loved was both the first KICK-ASS eight-issue series by Millar and John Romita Jr and the Matthew Vaughn film adaptation. I like the gumption both incarnations had as a creator-owned series and a studio-less movie.
Now that ‘Kick-Ass 2’ has it’s movie incarnation in the pipeline, I’m eager to discuss how ‘Kick-Ass 2’ the movie is going to compare to the KICK-ASS 2 and HIT-GIRL comics and what director Jeff Wadlow is bringing to screen now that Vaughn has gone to the X-World.
Oh boy, was I pleasantly surprised.
PLEASE NOTE! If you like the pretty drawings in this video, no need to Google Image Search, because I didn’t this time. I’m an owner of the comics, and if you’re interested, so should you…be. Well, that sentence was horrible.
*Video At The Link
The plot of the first two acts really is just like KICK-ASS 2 and HIT-GIRL the comics, the battles are in tact and most of the things that happen are straight out of what’s depicted – Mother Russia is still awesome, fights cops, etc.
There are differences in Act 3, and I know as a fan of the comics what question you might be asking: “Like, Jetpack different?”
The natural progression in Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass was to have his superheroes finally become superheroes, and we associate that with the power of flight. I didn’t see it as a deus ex machina as much as a natural extension of what Matthew Vaughn was saying.
There IS something Jeff Wadlow has added to comic here, but it’s something that makes a lot more sense once you start picturing the actors portraying these roles interacting on screen.
“Kick-Ass 2” is now in production with a June 28th, 2013 projected release. Make my day, Universal. Who’s in?

Re: 'Kick Ass 2'
I'm kinda looking forward to this. Never bothered reading the comics but the first movie was cool. Plus, it looks like Jim Carrey may be going more back to his comedy roots rather than that "serious actor" bullshit we had to contend with for all those years.

There's a trailer here, but it's red-band, so you have to have a YT account to watch it:
Jim Carrey is almost unrecognizable.
