R.I.P. Ray Bradbury 1920 - 2012

Extremely sad news this morning as io9 has confirmed this morning that Ray Bradbury has passed away in Los Angeles.

The author was 91.

Bradbury was born in 1920 in Illinois. He went on to pen many classics including Something Wicked This Way Comes, Farenheit 451, The Halloween Tree, The Martian Chronicles and countless short story collections. His tale, The Fog Horn, was adapted into the creature feature The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. He also inspired The Ray Bradbury Theater, a series based on his works which ran on HBO for two seasons.

Needless to say, the man was a machine, making it a point to write every day, as he has said in past interviews.

I had a chance to meet Mr. Bradbury on a few occasions and he was incredibly kind and always happy to speak to his fans. He will definitely be missed.

io9 received the following statement from Bradbury's grandson, Danny Karapetian:

"If I had to make any statement, it would be how much I love and miss him, and I look forward to hearing everyone's memories about him. He influenced so many artists, writers, teachers, scientists, and it's always really touching and comforting to hear their stories. Your stories. His legacy lives on in his monumental body of books, film, television and theater, but more importantly, in the minds and hearts of anyone who read him, because to read him was to know him. He was the biggest kid I know."

This is a name from yesteryear so some may not be familiar with him & I don't claim to be an expert either but THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS is one of those classic monster movies like I used to read about in FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND & I think I even have a special edition on DVD somewhere. Dude had a full life, that's for certain.

Man rip to the man. He was a big legend for the genre. I haven't read a lot of his stuff. I did read some yrs ago when I was young. Might try when I got the time to look into more of his work.
