“I’m not young any more. I’m really, really tired. And the world is too violent right now”: Jackie Chan Quits Action Movies
Jacke Chan NOT Quitting Action Movies?? Jackiechan

Sad news coming out of Cannes today is Jackie Chan’s announcement that he will be retiring from the world of action movies. The 58 year-old actor has had an impressive run, having starred in over 100 films, most of which were in the action genre. The decision, he says, is a combination of wanting to take on more serious acting roles, and simply becoming tired of starring in films that revolve around violence.

[Chinese Zodiac] is my last action film. I tell you, I’m not young any more. I’m really, really tired. And the world is too violent right now. It’s a dilemma – I like action but I don’t like violence.

I want the audience to know also I’m not only a comedian. I can act. Day by day, year by year, I’m going to show you the real Jackie Chan.

I don’t just want to be an action star, I want to be a true actor. I want to get rid of my image.

It’s a sorry day for the action genre, but it will certainly be interesting to watch Chan follow this new career path, especially considering his previous comments about wanting to become the “Asian Robert De Niro”.

Unfortunately for him, by doing this, his career in HollyWeird is pretty much over.

It was fun while it lasted, Mr. Chan.

There is one scene in 'Rumble In The Bronx' that, every time it's on, I just stop and watch it. It shows just how much of a bad-ass Jackie Chan could have been, if he went more of the Bruce Lee route:

I dig it.

Jackie Chan not retiring as action hero after all

Hong Kong born Chinese actor Jackie Chan who is in Cannes to promote his 100th film, Chinese 12 Zodiac denied reports that the movie will be his last action movie.

"I just want to let everyone know that I am not retiring from doing action movies. What I meant to say is that I need to do less of the life risking stunts on my movies. After all these years of doing so many stunts and breaking so many bones, I need to take better care of my body so I can keep working," the actor wrote on his Facebook page.

"I will continue to do international action movies," he added.

The 58-year-old actor at a press conference in Cannes had said that he is too "old for stunts" and will continue appearing in films outside the action genre and wants to be the Asian Robert De Niro, not just an action star.

Chinese 12 Zodiac, which is the third in Jackie Chan's Armour of God series, is likely to release in December this year.

Jackie Chan, who was last seen as a martial arts teacher in Karate Kid, began his career as a stuntman in the Bruce Lee films, Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon.

His first major break was the 1978 film Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. Jackie Chan introduced the comedic kung fu genre in movies with his blend of martial arts, improvisation and humour.

He has successfully crossed over to Hollywood with movies like Shanghai Knights, Shanghai Noon and the Rush Hour series. He also voiced Master Monkey in Kung Fu Panda.

If this decision takes him more in the direction of doing stuff like that RITB demo, I'm for it. I guess I'd never appreciated how powerful the guy really is until I saw that video.
