Which goes against what Gary Oldman said about it being a villain from "way back in Batman's history".

But who knows....

Well, yeah, there's that but the other thing is that Holiday comes from The Long Halloween. If it's true, that would certainly account for Catwoman and Bane (as a de-supernaturalized version of Solomon Grundy or something) in TDKRises.

The problem is that (A) a lot of the drama of TLH has already been used up in the previous films (Carmine Falcone as THE mob boss of Gotham, all business with Sal Maroni, Dent becoming Two Face and so forth) and (B) even if it hadn't been, TLH riffs entirely too much on the Godfather for audiences to take it seriously as a film. It works as a comic book because it's a comic book. But putting that to film would be a no-win situation. Hell, you'd be hard-pressed to adapt it even into a direct-to-DVD animated film.

But apart from all that, everybody knows that Adrien Brody should play Alberto Falcone.

First, in reference to that Variety link:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118034129?refCatId=13

Let me 'quote' a passage from that article:

"Alberto Falcone, who is also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan's superhero trilogy full-circle. The character fits with the helmer's stated intentions for continuity and preference to pit the Caped Crusader against "realistic" villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who Batman battled in Joel Schumacher's 1997 misfire "Batman and Robin." "

Heaven forbid that Batman, a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER, should have 'cartoony' nemeses. You know, villains that are too 'comic-booky'. Heaven forbid that Nolan should have that! So Batman doesn't get them either huh?! What a crock!

Look, I don't claim to know the 'Batman mythos' of the comics all that well. I haven't read 'The Long Halloween' & I'm not familiar with the Holiday Killer. There's probably a number of obscure villains that I don't know about, but why does Nolan have to use them for a film that he expects to make gazillions of dollars in box office? In TDK, he had the controversial version of the Joker as played by Heath Ledger, but at least it was supposed to be the Joker. Now in the followup, we get mob bosses sons?! And a 'hulking' midget Bane?! And Catwoman played by a great actress but one who would've served playing LOIS LANE much better than Catwoman!

The point? Except for Catwoman, Nolan seems to be going with villains who, although they may be known to fanboys, probably ain't known to Joe Public, & the storylines they come from probably even less known to Mr. Public. So just how does Nolan expect to top TDK?! And let's face it, Nolan may be amassing some decent actors, but are any of them gonna be able to reach Ledger's lofty status?! Not likely. Why then didn't Nolan also use LEONARDO DICAPRIO in this new film? If he wants star power, that'd be the way to go & DiCaprio was also in INCEPTION. Or use another big name like Johhny Depp. Or somebody. It can kinda make you wonder if Nolan knows this film isn't going to a cool billion so maybe he's using 'cheaper' talent. I just wonder if Christian Bale is gonna 'phone in' his performance this time?!

Something else crossed my mind. Nolan doesn't want 'comic-booky' characters, but if he keeps adding villains, we just as well have all the villains in one film! Like the ADAM WEST TV show or even 'Batman: the Movie', which I believe featured all the well-known villains, except for maybe Two-face. Why not throw ROBIN in too while you're at it & let's have a WWE 'NO WAY OUT' or something?!

I don't have much issue with this. We already know nolans take on batman was a more realistic approach and he didn't want to use certai badguys. This is just one take on the character. No different then past ones. Same goes to what ever wb does with batman after this final nolan film.

Looks like Levitt may not be Alberto Falcone after all:

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/03/21/joseph-gordon-levitt-dark-knight-rises/

"Joseph Gordon-Levitt, long-rumored to be joining his Inception brethren in The Dark Knight Rises, will appear in director Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film. But a source close to the situation says that recent reports that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone (a.k.a. the Holiday Killer) — the son of former mob kingpin, Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) — are incorrect. So, Batman fans: Begin the re-speculation now!"

I found this link over at SHH from an updated article:

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/129118-gordon-levitts-the-dark-knight-rises-role-revealed

They basically just posted the same thing I quoted. So who will he play then? Maybe a villain that someone will actually give a crap about?!

I stick with my Riddler guess. Not an over-the-top Jim Carrey Riddler, but a Se7en-esque "realistic" Riddler.

WOW! Levitt is playing 'John Blake', a 'beat cop', & Cotillard is playing 'Miranda Tate', A 'Wayne Enterprises board member'. WOW! What an awesome use of these actors' abilities & even a great use for this Batman storyline. Hey! They're on a level now with 'the mayor of Gotham'! Way to go Nolan!

Some forbes writer claims he thinks levitt character is indeed robin:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhughes/2012/06/21/is-joseph-gordon-levitts-character-in-the-dark-knight-rises-secretly-robin/
Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Character In 'The Dark Knight Rises' Secretly Robin?

Levitt confirmed for the dark knight rises!! Nightwing_Wikipedia
Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a rookie cop apparently named John Blake in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. There’s been a lot of speculation about the role this character plays in the story, with many fans (including yours truly) suspecting there is more to John Blake than we might realize.

Well,I’m here today to answer a question that fans have been debating online for weeks now: Is John Blake actually director Christopher Nolan‘s

version of Dick Grayson, aka Robin, aka Nightwing?

I believe the answer to that question is “Yes,” and I’m here to try and prove it to you. Read on!

First, you should know that nowadays Dick Grayson’s actual full name in the comics is Richard John Grayson. John Grayson was Dick Grayson’s father, the father who eventually died along with Dick’s mother,Mary, leading to Dick being taken in by Batman and later becoming Robin. In adulthood,Dick left Bruce’s side and set out on his own with the new masked identity Nightwing.

Second, you should know that in adulthood,Dick Grayson became a street cop as his daytime identity. This helped him know the city better, learn more about crime and criminals in his area, and so on.

Now,we’ve only seen a very little bit about the film character John Blake, but what we’ve seen is that he’s a young cop whom the trailers depict assisting Batman in the fight against Bane, and Blake is shown having some sort of involvement with an orphanage/boys home. Blake also goes around drawing a little chalk bat-like symbol as a sign calling for Batman to return to Gotham as well as apparently some kind of sign of solidarity among the resistance to Bane (the latter point is not entirely certain/clear,but the chalk bat-emblem seems to definitely be used as some kind of sign among the folks resisting Bane).

Okay, let’s take a closer look at that chalk symbol…

While that mildly resembles a bat-symbol, there’s something ELSE it resembles even more. Take a gander at this…
Levitt confirmed for the dark knight rises!! Chalk-Bat-emblem
Do you see more resemblance between those two, than between the chalk image and a bat-symbol?I sure do!
Levitt confirmed for the dark knight rises!! Nightwing-emblem
That’s the strongest link,I feel, between Blake’s character and Nightwing. But WAIT,how about a subtle little nod to Robin as well?Look at what happens if we flip the chalk bat-symbol upside down…
Levitt confirmed for the dark knight rises!! Chalk-Bat-Emblem-Upsidedown
Yep. It’s a bird.

MIND. BLOWN.

So,a cop named John who assists Batman, who uses a symbol that upside-up looks like Nightwing’s emblem and upside-down looks like a robin bird. To top it all off, this is the final Batman film, the end of the legend, and I think Nolan wants to create a complete Batman mythology that touches on the most iconic elements of the Batman mythos. So I feel the inclusion of some sort of nod to Dick Grayson is something Nolan might really want to include.

So,is John Blake really Dick Grayson, using a new last name because he was adopted from that orphanage? Will this be the “realistic” depiction of Robin/Nightwing for Nolan’s Batman universe?I think so, and I think the above evidence supports the theory pretty well.

What do you think, dear readers?Have I convinced you that it’s at least very possible John Blake will turn out to be Dick Grayson, under an adopted name?Sound off in the comments below!
