Matthew Vaughn Reteams With Mark Millar For 'Superior'
By Elisabeth Rappe on October 06, 2011

Mark Millar only recently (and I doubt permanently) gave up the hopes that "Kick-Ass" would be continuing its bloody saga on the big screen. But his work is never away from adaptation for long, and Comic Book Movie broke the news that Matthew Vaughn has bought the rights to Millar's "Superior" with an eye to bringing it to the big screen.

"Superior" is a Millar owned work, but published by Marvel. It follows a young boy named Simon who suffers from multiple sclerosis. When an alien monkey appears at his bedside and offers him a wish, Simon knows instantly what he wants -- to become Superior, his favorite superhero of page and screen. He gets his wish, but being a superhero comes at a steep price.

"Superior" is still a long way from the big screen (Vaughn has the rights, but it's hard to say what will come of it) but there's an extra incentive for a studio to be generous and finance it. Millar has partnered with The National MS Society to use Superior to raise awareness for MS. If a movie could be made, the Society would gain a lot of attention and undoubtedly a lot of donations.

I would actually love to see this happen. One of the big geek discussions over the past few years is whether or not we're seeing a variety of people embody superheroes onscreen. It would be cool if we could see a diasbed individual become, as Millar puts it, "the most powerful person on the planet." It would certainly give a new spin to the tired origin story!

Never read the book but sounds like it could be fun.
