Re: 'Cowboys & Aliens'
I went and saw this today, and I liked it. It definitely wasn't perfect, but what they got right far surpassed what they got wrong.
Harrison Ford was great as the war-weary "owner" of the town. The guy has such intensity STILL that he doesn't even need to say a word in order to intimidate you. Daniel Craig was his most effective when he was the "silent badass", but I enjoyed what he did. Clancy Brown owned his time on-screen, and Sam Rockwell was spot-on in his role. Olivia Wilde's character probably gets the most reaction from people, and I can't say I disagree. A little more time fleshing her out, literally and figuratively, would have helped a lot.
The action was good, if a little "short" in some scenes. I liked the design of the aliens, but the same dirty-metal design of the ships was kind of "meh". We've seen it in everything from 'Transformers' to 'Terminator Salvation' to that lame 'Battleship' trailer that's out now. Time for something new, HollyWeird.
I would recommend it.
