So much for "geek chic"
"Comic-Con groupies escape reality & leave others to save dark economy."
My response? Fuck you.
But apart from that, here's some quick math. $175 ticket price * 100,000 attendees = $17.5 million. Just ticket sales; that's not to speak of food, accommodations and, oh yeah, MERCHANDISE the attendees also purchase.
Call me crazy but I think that's a hell of a lot more effective than "protesting the economy" would ever be.
And something else, if somebody paid $1,000 for a Superbowl ticket and went to the game half-naked and covered in body paint to "support the team", nobody would question anything. But because it's comics, it's "weird".
And for you Big Bang Theory fans out there, just remember this is what the mainstream (which is what the show represents) *REALLY* thinks of you.

You couldn't get me to pay $175 for tickets to the San Diego Comic Con.

Not really the issue. The bigger point is that there's a fucked up double standard for geek stuff vs. anything else. Even Nascar probably gets more cred.Apologist Puncher wrote:You couldn't get me to pay $175 for tickets to the San Diego Comic Con.

The geek's don't do themselves any favors in that regard either, though.

No. No, they don't. A lot of geeks and fanboys and shit watch stuff like the Big Bang Theory and do their best Butthead impersonation- "uh huh huh, huh huh, they're not talking about ME!"Apologist Puncher wrote:The geek's don't do themselves any favors in that regard either, though.
Well, yeah, actually. They ARE.

Until the geeks make an effort to prove the stereotypes about them wrong, they will never get the respect fans of any other genre do. Even 'Twilight' fans get more respect.....
Seriously.

Sometimes all you can really add is "I agree a thousand times over". This? It's one of those times.
I agree a thousand times over.

Sorry lady but not all of us can be overweight, alcoholic college-dropouts with herpes and Daddy Issues like you.Stupid cunt wrote:Just like you're obligated to mention you're divorced or have a kid in your online profile, shouldn't someone also be required to disclose any indisputably geeky world championship titles? But maybe it was a long time ago? We met for round two later that week.
At dinner I got straight down to it. Did he still play? "Yes." Strike one. How often? "I'm preparing for a tournament this weekend." Strike two. Who did he hang out with? "I've met all my best friends through Magic." Strike three. I smiled and nodded and listened.
