Don't forget 'The Lord Of The Rings', 'Chronicles of Riddick' and 'Pathfinder'. No matter how each of those last two films ended-up, Urban was pretty good in and of himself.

Karl Urban was great as Leonard 'Bones' McKoy on the Star Trek reboot! Really nailed the part! I just hope this one's successful.

Interestingly, I've read that the Anthrax song, 'I AM THE LAW', is about the comics character Judge Dredd. Do you suppose they could include it in the soundtrack?

Urban says Dredd without his helmet makes him "Puke in my popcorn":

WeMakeALotOfShitUp.com

Why Dredd Showing His Face Makes Karl Urban "Puke In His Popcorn"
Urban assures us that we are in for a comic faithful interpretation of ol stoney face. The Kiwi actor also lets us know just how passionate he is about the Judge keeping that helmet on..

We haven't heard a peep from Dredd in a while. A few official pics aside, no footage or teaser trailer have been screened as was expected at some of the various cons and expos that have taken place recently. But Judge Dreddhimself Karl Urban is keeping interest alive.

Speaking to Total Film Urban describes Pete Travis' (Vantage Point) Dredd as a "set up film. A day in the Judge's life as he puts rookie Anderson through her paces". He then goes on to talk about how the character in the comics never reveals his face, something ignored by the wretched Stallone movie back in 1995.

"If anyone if familiar with Dredd, over the years there are many times when he removes his helmet but you never fully see his face. This was a construct by the creators because he represents a faceless system of justice and law."

I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called Judge Dredd and the lead actor at one point took of his helmet so we could see his full face I would just puke in my popcorn because that's not Dredd. He is mysterious and enigmatic. We're doing it right, it's gonna be harder, grittier and above all faithful to the comic. It's gonna kick ass."

Dredd is written by Alex Garland (Sunshine) and also stars Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson and Game Of Thrones' Lena Heady as the villain, Madeline "Ma Ma" Madrigal.

Totally the editors could totally screw around with alot of things and turn it from a good film to a bad film. Or it could be reversed in other cases. But ya ain't a good thing.

Actually, I'm coming back to this. Just to play devil's advocate for a second here, it could be a situation where the director is actually the one being the dick about something. A movie like this probably is a big deal for the studio producing it. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of peoples' jobs are riding on this thing. There's a time and a place where an "uncompromising" director is just what the doctor ordered... but now and then that can run up against the business side of things. It's unfortunate, I can't think of too many times when it results in a superior product (although Lester's Superman II is certainly one example if the Donner Crap is anything to judge by... and I maintain that it is) but it's how things shake out once in a while.

The most recent comic-book film to have this happen was 'Punisher: War Zone'.

And we ALL know what happened in that piece of shit.

Judge Dredd Creator Drops Details on the Big Screen Version
by Silas Lesnick
January 19, 2012

Arriving in theaters later this year, Lionsgate's Dredd re-adapts the "Judge Dredd" comic from the pages of "2000 A.D." with Karl Urban donning the iconic helmet, starring alongside Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson. Today, The L.A. Times spoke with John Wagner who, in 1977, created the character alongside artist Carlos Ezquerra.

"'Dredd' homes in on the essential job of judging," says Wagner of the new film's plot. "Instant justice in a violent future city... The plot is about Dredd and his world. It’s impossible to cover every aspect of the character and his city. Perhaps that was one of the failings of the first film. They tried to do too much and ended up with not a lot."

The previous take on the property hit theaters in 1995 and featured Sylvester Stallone in the lead. That version was neither a critical nor box office success, but Wagner promises that the upcoming film won't make the same mistakes.

"My views haven’t changed," he explains, "though apart from my initial viewing I haven’t seen the film since it came out. They told the wrong story. It didn’t have that much to do with Dredd the character as we know him. I don’t think Stallone was a bad Dredd, though it would have been better and lent him more cred if he hadn’t revealed his face. He was just Dredd in the wrong story. I envy their budget, though. Some of the CGI was very good, and the re-creations of the Angel Gang and the robot. The robot actually came from a Pat Mills story and didn’t belong in Dredd, but it looked good. If the plot had revolved around characters like them the film would have been more successful."

Optimistic about the cast of the new version, Wagner says that Dredd will stay true to his creation.

"I like the actors," he says. "They’re well cast and they handled their parts well. Olivia Thirlby is perfect as Anderson, the young psi judge. She gives the character a touching vulnerability. Karl Urban will not remove his helmet and will not kiss his costar."

Dredd hits theaters in 2D and 3D on September 21st.

Some of this info may be echoing previous articles & posts but this is the latest I found at SHH. For the complete article, along with pics, here's the link they quoted from:

Might just be worth seeing?
