AP, I'd post this on that blog but I don't even know how to start a new thread there. It just doesn't seem to have the set-up or something of this forum. I can't post the pic anyway so hopefully one of you guys will. I first found out on Facebook. Duh Homopage didn't seem to have the news yet as of this writing but SHH does:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have provided the first look at the new Man of Steel, revealing star Henry Cavill as Superman in the film from director Zack Snyder.

The film also stars three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams (The Fighter) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne (What's Love Got to Do with It) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar nominee Diane Lane (Unfaithful) and Academy Award winner Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves).

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), and Faora, Zod's evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman's native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman's father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator).

Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

Man of Steel is being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Someone, quickly, upload the pic! I'm gonna have to tell you the truth, I'm not exactly 'feeling' this! I mean, look at it! Another PLEATHER look, possibly even moreso than Singerman! A cape that drags the ground, literally! Sure, a bigger 'S' this time but it still looks like an add-on like BJ had! And the color scheme still looks TOO DARK! And get this! You can tell he has a belt on but you can't tell if he has the 'trunks' or not! An intentional move by WB/DC?! And where's the 'S' curl?! Cavill was photographed recently with it 'off-duty' so why ain't it in the pic?!

I hope WB/DC prove me wrong with this but I feel like I have reason for concern! At least his musculature seems OK. However, someone at Facebook sarcastically commented that it looks like Snyder is using his art department from SUCKER PUNCH! SHEESH!

The coloring of The Suit looks to be affected by the intentionally monochromatic coloring of this pic. Even Cavill's fleshtone looks off. That's typical of stylized photography. The point is that the coloring looks CORRECT unto itself, simply affected by the monochrome of the pic.

The cape is made of fabric. So there's a starting point. As in the comics, there are pleats at the shoulder that help give the cape body and volume. It doesn't look as substantial as Thor's cape... but since I wasn't nuts about that cape attachment to begin with, I don't see that as a bad thing.

You have to lean in and squint a little bit but I think see the trunks in there too. TRUNKS, mind you, not the Daisy Dukes that BJ Blandon had. It's hard to be sure because of the shadowing but I think they're in there.

Then there's the body suit. That's probably the weakest link in this thing. For starters, I'm simply going to have to make my peace with shiny/leathery suits for comic book heroes. Don't like it but that's where things are headed. That's the bad news.

The neckline looks like it goes pretty high. Hard to be sure but I don't think it goes as high as the Singerman neckline did.

The good news is that the material (at least in this pic) doesn't scream "cheapo pleather" like Blandon's cape did. It's got some sort of fucked up texturing going on but, again, that's how a lot of superhero outfits look nowadays. I'm not crazy about that, esp for Superman, but that's how things are.

The S-emblem looks like it has been modified and slightly redesigned. It actually half-ass reminds me of the Earth-2 Superman's S-emblem.

As to the spit curl, I honestly couldn't care less about that. I guess Snyder will go the Lois & Clark route of giving Superman a very polished appearance and letting Clark be the more relaxed look. It's never bothered me if a Superman actor bypasses the spit curl (George Reeves, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, etc).

Overall, I want to see more and better pics of this design before making a final opinion.

Well this was a wonderful surprise to wake up to about an hr ago. First off i am so happy WB was smart enough to release a studio still of cavill in the costume before it was snapped on set by some crappy cell phone/fan camera. Secondly, now singer this is the right dramatic pose and set up for a first look ina suit. Sr's first look was pretty terrible. I love the background and pose cavill is here. Love the fabric and long looking cape here and its color is good too. Same with the S shield thank god its big and has a good S on it. I see its a bit 3d like SR was but thankfully it looks more fabric looking and probably bends/folds when cavill is buffy out chest or folding arms. Cant tell if the suit has the trunks or not due to the dark setting of the photo. Hopefully it is there. Also glad it isnt fully like the dam DCnu design dont like that suit one bit. Also the boots look great. Now only question on top of is there trunks is how rich is the blue color in the suit. Since the dark setting doesnt really help with that.

I did take the image and played around with the contrast/brightness setting and with this edit looks like blue could be a bright rich color:

There seems to be a seam or something that's visible on his right hip/thigh. Tough to know. But I swear to think there's some sort of coloring that could be the trunks in that costume. You have to lean in close but there's SOMEthing there, I'm telling you. I don't think this is the DCnU design.

Your version looks pretty terrible. The issue isn't brightness/contrast, it's hue/saturation. All you did was take a monochromatic image and blow out the whites and crush the blacks. That helps nothing.

I don't have time for it right now but later I'll play around with the hue/satch settings in Photoshop and see if I can get a better idea of what this design looks like.

ya i dont have a photo editing software on my laptop. so it was just the basic photo editing from microsoft when i right click image. but if you can play around with hue and all that with photoshop would be great. As for neckline looking close to the photo ya it definately not has high up as Routh's his was more of a tshirt neckline. This one is a little bit more open which is nice. also looking at cape attachment it does look like there is a holding place where the cape attached to the body suit shoulders like how it was a bit on thor's costume.

I'm coming back to this. Sorry to post 9 zillion messages here but obviously this is a big subject for me. Probably all of us.

One thing that Louise Mingenbach said (to excuse her shit design?) about the Singerman outfit was that you're really not supposed to mix primary colors together. So to balance that out, she made the obvious decision of darkening one of the colors to give the other one a little more "pop".

The problem is that the lunkhead desaturated the wrong color! The "red" in BJ's tu-tu was more of a brick/wine type of color.

Clearly Snyder's costume designers faced this same problem. So, BIG DUH, they made the decision to darken the blue to let the red be more prominent. The end result is a costume design that INSTANTLY looks light years ahead of the Singerman bikini just because of a simple coloring decision.

The color design on SV was utterly meticulous (at least in the Al Gough/Miles Millar years). Say whatever you want about the rest of the show but the aesthetics were a big part of the series. They regularly combined bright shades of red and blue. Granted, they weren't working with an out and out Superman costume, I get that, but it still proves the basic theory that you can combine primary colors with their traditional vibrancy.

That said, I assume the final movie won't go for that same muddy, muted color design shit that Singerman did and that the costume will be shown at it's full color vibrancy. If so, you already know the Snyder version will be TONS better than fucking Singerman ever was.

It seems the belt may be black. Or something. But it doesn't appear to be completely yellow. Whatever the coloring is, it seems darker than whatever would occupy the space of the trunks (if they're even present).

Hmm. I'm starting to wonder about this...

ya the whole waist area is such a mystery is there trunks no trunks, i think the belt could be like urgh the dcnu thing and just cause the way cavill body is position we only see the middle buckle area.

Viewing a copy of this pic from another source, it would appear there is a yellow belt and what may or may not be red belt loops. What escapes me though is the need to have the material look like it has scales. Is this alot of mini-S's again?

i dont think its mini S's again just designers attempt at a textured look. I do wonder what the "tights" material is made of.

I'm too lazy to compare time stamps but I wrote the above and then checked the Eunuch page. The fact that they're mostly responding favorably instantly makes me question my own judgment. Anyway. No references to Earth-2.

But this thread received a flurry of views and now a few Apologists are referencing the Earth-2 symbol over on the Eunuch page.

The "scaley" look of the suit was instantly off-putting for me, but I had a similar reaction to the first 'THOR' picture. Hopefully it's something they can clean-up in post.

Overall, it is a HUGE step-up from Singerman and it's fetish wetsuit. But I need to see more of it to really decide how I feel about it.

One question though:

Is Superman breaking into a bank vault in that picture??

Hopefully they picked the material they did because it shows off Cavill's physique, which is a BIG improvement over BJ's.

But they do need to "tone it down" in post-production.

And only one photo in a dark setting in post production/color correction to it and on set probably will looks worlds apart. Just like for thor for example all set photos made everything look plastic like but post production made it look alot better.

At least he looks like Superman...something that good ole BJ did not look like ....as for the costume...I think they borrowed the scaled or mini s look from Singerman but I think they eliminated the trunks. I don't like the raised \S/... Reminds me of Singers mess of a costume....overall a very good improvement from SR

I knew the news will be hitting sooner or later but any way... Where do I begin?

Well for starters I was expecting to see Cavil in the suit somewhere in July but as it turns out we get to see it early in August the same month shooting begins (Well just as long we see it period).

Now on to the suit... When I first got on to Yahoo.com they anounce that the suit for MOS has finally been revealed and I just couldn't wait and just clicked away like there was no tomorrow and after waiting for the page to fully load finally I saw it and I just had a "HOLY SHIT!!!" moment reaction but that was only after seeing the minimize size pic and I was anxious to see a maximum size version of it and after getting that chance I was left with some optimism... I notice that the suit was made out of the same fabric material as the Spider-Man suit (From the Raimi films) aleast I'm assuming! The S shield is bigger but it is also seem to be embossed (Somehow I was expecting that)! Cavil seems to look buffed as well as masculine just as he should be unlike a certain someone well all know! Inspite all that however it also left me with some slight skepticism... I can't really tell if he's wearing any trunks or aleast has some red scheme design underneath his waist it's anybodies guess! And speaking of colors I also can't tell whether if this is the suit's actual color scheme or this is do to the contrast of it's photography! But my biggest complaint is the cape, it looks too damn long it should be aleast about the length as Reeve's cape only reaching behind the kneecaps! I mean seriously how the hell Supes is going to maneuver properly with that long ass cape in the way? I hope the length of the cape gets adjusted eventually! And where the hell is his front hair curl?

This maybe the first photo Cavil in the suit but certainly not enough to make a full judgement of aleast not until I see a full body shot which is something I was expecting to see but hopefully soon enough! But I guess thats what manips are for!

Hopefully ap, though the suit is loads better for me then sr. Good cape, nice boots, big s shield, trunks and proper color/lighting look at. It is what I want now.
